Simple air defense would work at Engels

No need for aerostats or other such tools

There is no airfield on the planet that would have 100% detected such a threat early and destroyed it an enormous distance from the airfield... it is to Russias credit that they are shooting these drones down... in Saudi Arabia with all those fighter planes and all those AWACS and Patriots and other very very expensive systems they didn't even know they were under attack till the warheads exploded on target... and at the time they were at war with their neighbour so you can't use the they were not at war excuse.

Most countries don't have an IADS network and they will suffer even more from drone and cruise missile attacks... HATO does not have a unified air defence system... they have bits and pieces but not much to write home about... the only decent western air defence systems are on US Navy ships...

But have a good sulk... obviously Russia is in the shit and the sky is falling... if only the west wasn't so right about how evil and bad Russia and Russians were, if only Russia was a bit stronger so it couldn't care less what the west thinks...

It is the west that is in the shit... they seem to enjoy that... Russia is just shifting from the west and Europe to the rest of the world... let the west buy Russian energy and resources through third parties in the rest of the world who can profit from the wests arrogance and ignorance and refusal to interact with Russia... Russia wont care... it will sell products and resources because they have value and are needed... in the past it has been the west buying up that cheap energy for itself and being the middle man for Russian sales to everyone else making money on their trade... now the west can be in a different place in the queue.

And I think that's him trying to give it a positive spin lol. He also stated nearly 9 million without energy. He goes to say that maximum strength is needed in Donbass. And that Russia has a lot of resources and it's using them. I think this a very slow realisation (through the many bags of white powder he consumes daily) that Donbass is soon to collapsing. And he knows once Donbass is finished off he has very little else left to defend the rest of the country and that Russia will steam roll through the rest.

Agree . War is over , when trenches defeated . This is the critical path . Russia can use either treasure or blood to defeat the trenches . Either bomb them from planes or by missiles or send trench troops to do the clearing . I disregard here the technical solution , needing resources . I only make a couple of comments about clearing trenches by troops : First the troops that are needed to clear trenches , take higher risks . Therefore the state can increase their pay and pay out more compensation to them , if injured or more money to family if they die . This should help with motivation . Second is about sending these troops into trenches , I think they can wear full body armour , including protection on upper leg , like Samurai warrier , with armoured protection for eyes and Ears . Obviously they will become too heavy to go on foot , and they will need vehicles to take them close . APC are too slow and big and will not survive ATGW . Therefore they need smaller and more agile transports , such as electric vehicle to carry them . This vehicle is available on market , and only needs solid tyres and minimal protection around motor , to survive small arms and shrapnel . These troops need shot guns and Frag / Stun grenades ( hence their own Eye/ Ear protection ) . Once section of trench captured , supplies provided in the same way . Russia should not await and hope that men and material losses , will work quickly to end war . Russia needs to end this quickly , within months or a year .

Yes of course! Mechanized operations cannot be carried out at present due to the weather. Russian forces are grinding down the enemy with artilery and aviation. An offensive can only be expected earliest in mid-February, only then will the ground be frozen enough for heavy armored forces. By then, the Ukrainian forces will also be significantly weakened and will not be able to oppose the armored forces.

In general, Russian units are in a comfortable position because Ukraine needs to deliver and present something to their Western masters.
Therefore, before any Russian offensive, I expect an offensive by Ukraine with armored forces. How big it will be is questionable. In any case, the losses will be significant. Time is running against the Nazis in Kyiv, not in their favor.

Of course, there is also the danger of an escalation, because some Western politicians are completely losing their minds and are demanding no-fly zones etc. Here it is really disadvantageous that Russia appears so weak in Western eyes, of course the "weakness" is also due to Western propaganda.

I am also quite certain that Poland will intervene in the conflict in April or May if there are signs of major territorial losses for Ukraine.
Then they can justify an operation to "protect" Ukrainian civilians in western Ukraine.

Russian air bases have only ONE problem...not air defence! The air force bases were built right next to cities. In direct neighborhood to Engels is Saratov with 840k inhabitants and even Engels has 200k inhabitants. This leads to a high background noise in the radar image and high buildings reduce the reconnaissance range. The air defenses must either be placed generously around the cities, which means deploying many units, or use aerostats.

Advantage of air force bases near larger cities is a significant improvement in the quality of life of all soldiers working on the base. This isn't Area 51 the families of the soldiers experience a big city feeling here...you shouldn't despise it.

By the way, NATO doesn't do it any better! And Russia is learning from its mistakes. Better to learn now in the conflict than when you are really in direct conflict with the whole of NATO.
