It's easy to locate a ground based air defence radar - do I have to explain to you why?
Even serbians used quite an effective tactics, turning radar active or passive in case of an air strike. So, tactics is also counts

It is possible to breakthrough any AA with a massive joint strike of aircrafts and cruise missiles, still ground AA will consentrate on a possible breakthrough axis as will AD aviation. And the army or fleet will possibly try a preemptive strike on the concentrating enemy forces in case to weaken the strike

This could be the prototype of S-500 but remains to be seens.

    Anyway full blown AESA

    It's smaller Podsolnukh OTH radar.

Talking about radars, Russia have now excellent opportunity to record F-22 combat stealth fingerprint caracteristics and could test in what distances could Syrian air defense complexes detect and track F-22 as well as their long range EW radars together with OTH radars if they could track F-22 over Syria, when it is in full stealth in combat mission. I'm sure they will not miss it. When having F-22 fingerprint, F-35 will not be far away, what mean if they will be capable to detect and fight F-22, then they could also F-35.

Any informations, how many long range Rezonans radars are now in Russian MoD? With them, they could quite quickly close the gaps in Artics, Pacific regions and in Sibiria.

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated concern "Vega" on the anniversary

New radar and control station "Outpost" is designed to detect ground, surface and low-flying objects and is able to track at least 50 targets at the same time, at a distance of 20 km, and surpasses the range of foreign analogues by 3-fold, and the ability to distinguish between two separate objects is 16-17 times better than foreign systems:

The new system of defense industry finds the offender for 20 km
    Corporation unveiled radar control "Outpost"

    Russian Radar systems - Page 9 UTK_8909_588

Combined instrument-making corporation showcased Interpolitex 2014 to develop its concern "Vega" - radar control areas "Outpost", which according to its technical characteristics superior to existing foreign counterparts.

Control Station "Outpost" is designed to detect ground, surface and low-flying objects and is able to track at least 50 targets at the same time, according to a company press release.

"Radar" Outpost "- a system of circular scan capable of detecting moving objects at distances up to 20 kilometers - the director of the Department of Joint instrument-making corporation Alexander Kalinin. - Resolution on the range, or the minimum distance between two adjacent commit object is 30 centimeters, which is very good. "

The structure consists of radar radome, the antenna device scanning, receiving-transmitting unit, a digital processing, and workstation attendant, which is located at the outpost, and may be shared by several local radar sensors.

"In comparison, common foreign systems have a maximum range of 6.8 kilometers, - says deputy designer general concern" Vega "Victor ivy. - Close to our figures for the maximum range now achieved in the German inventor. But the range resolution is considerably worse: not 30 centimeters, but about five meters. If we in the beam in one direction 60 thousand range of elements, then they - 6-8 thousand, their system cover this area at the same time can not. "

The system is equipped with a detection function "smart intruder", which allows to distinguish humans from other moving objects, even if he disguises his movements.

As told Victor Ivy in included adaptive detection algorithms that allow automatically adjust the background changes, such as those associated with the spring growth of grass or falling snow. Previously, experts solved this problem for several days.

"When you work with the ground surface, and not with the sky, the picture is complicated by the reflection, or background of the earth. It is important that this background, it was possible to distinguish the good man, because background is quite complex - there is grass, bushes, and other objects. When the snow falls, the background characteristics are also changing. On the circumference of 20 kilometers, we have 15 million points that we must accept and track. Now developed an algorithm that can do this automatically, "- said Viktor ivy.

Today, the system "Outpost" passed all tests and is ready for serial production.

Control Station "Outpost" is designed to detect ground, surface and low-flying objects and is able to track at least 50 targets at the same time

This is some great news, so 'Outpost' is capable of tracking 50 low-flying targets at a time, at 20 km distance, and only needs a minimum of 30 centimeters to differentiate between two low flying targets, combined with the Pantsir system to replace Kashtan it could do great service protecting Russian ships from low-flying ASHm swarm tactics. It could also be useful detecting swarming low-flying cruise missiles.

They could use them in large numbers on ships to protect from AShM's like you said... That being said, I can't find anything on it being naval vessel capable... Do you have anything on that?

Anyway, these hooked up with a Pantsir or Palash and a 9M100 launcher of some sort would add up to be a very "thick" defense.

Nothing is explicitly mentioned, however I wouldn't see why it couldn't. BTW another positive feature is that it's capable to seamlessly integrate in to IAD. I could see smaller ships like corvettes with 4 integrated "Outpost" radars in 4 different directions with the ability to track 200 low-flying targets all together, bigger ships like destroyers could have 10 "Outpost" radars and track 500 targets, and aircraft carriers could have 20 of them to track 1000 targets.

and only needs a minimum of 30 centimeters to differentiate between two low flying targets,

The thing is that if you have a swarm of anti ship missiles flying 1 metre apart trying to pretend to be one missile... the effective shrapnel radius of most SAMs means hitting one would destroy the others too, but better discrimination of the target is certainly not a bad thing of course.... Smile

I suspect this radar is a replacement for ground surveillance radar used by ground forces to track enemy ground targets in all weather day and night.

I agree. This is what struck me the most:

    1. Russia has had/produced Valeria passive radar detection system from Soviet times and this most likely refers to its highly modernized version

    2. Increase in MTBF (maches western radars which might launch its export potential)

    3. Active/Passive version combo where Ring has excellent low lvl charateristic and although I would not exchange 30N6 or 64N6 Very Happy with Ring 96L7 is something to talk about even on mast.

    4. Now look at this madness

450 miles on a typical fighter radar, and up to 900 km on the AWACS aircraft RFCs "AWACS". Can simultaneously track up to 250 radio-emitting objects with certainty the origin of 0.94, the approximate time of the passive station RTR to the first problem, around 2000 hours, scanning and "tie conditional paths" can take place automatically

SRTR "Valeria" is able to detect all long-distance communication systems and tactical alignment of NATO countries («Link 11», «Link 16"), in addition, found even altimeter strategic cruise missiles and even ARGSN missiles "air-air" and "air- the ship. "

What more could one want? Very Happy

    5. While at the same time its precission is astonishing for an passive radar set as though it could guide some active guided missile Very Happy

    6. And what does it do ... huh .... just enjoy reading

Russian IADS have many similar ELINT passive radar complexes to Valeria, like Kolchuga, Orion, Avtobaza, etc. They all work in the same way to listen for any signal in the air and to triangulate the position of target. Different complexes mean different frequency belts for detection. To be stealth for them, the plane have to turn off everything on board, communications, data links, radar, radio altimeter, IFF,..., but that mean the plane is blind if it doesn't use its radar or links with network to get info for targets from other sources.

Interesting project from the RRD Lab - multi-radar system with synthetic aperture antenna

Our group is actively engaged in the development and research of multi-position and bistatic radar systems,
including those based on the use of reflected signals of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) "GLONASS".

2014The latest air defense radars appeared in the northwest of Russia

"Sky-M" and "Sky-ME" are capable of detecting targets at altitudes of up to 600 km and at a distance of over 1800 km. "Caste-2E2" - low-altitude station-round view, designed to detect targets moving at extremely low altitude, including cruise missiles.
