    http://www.rt.com/politics/316786-communists-to-contest-united-russias/

The chief lawyer of the Communist Party faction in the State Duma said that his comrades would soon oppose United Russia’s long-term domination in parliament and seek changes that would not allow any party to get a majority of seats.

“We are preparing a quite unique appeal to the Constitutional Court concerning the monopoly of one party in the State Duma,” MP Vadim Solovyov said in an interview with TASS news agency.

He went on to explain that the Constitution provides that there should be no monopoly on power in Russia, including the monopoly on state power and ideology. Communists intend to use this principle and propose a major amendment to the law that would not allow one party to get more than half of all parliamentary seats. He noted that the same law might introduce quotas for parliamentary representation for one political party, for example, of 47 percent.

“Constant holding of over 50 percent of parliamentary seats [by one party] is a trait of a totalitarian state,” Solovyov said.

What if US foreign aid (CIA operated NGOs) decided to abandon the Liberals and switch their support for the Communists to destabilize Russia? After all, the Communists have a higher chance of securing votes than Navalny

First off, Zyguanov doesn't like the west. He is far more radical in his opinions on the west than Putin is. Putin is far more docile. As well, foreign NGO's are losing their licenses by the droves in Russia and many more blacklisted. So I don't think they will be much of a concern in the next couple of years to decade.

Accoridng to what I saw the opposition trio (Coms, Zhirinovsky, SP) actually OK with most of Putin's basic policies, especially in the issues of kicking the West's noses out of Russian internal affairs. I believe the West can't get anything from them.

    Zhirinovsky slams Gorbachyov Rolling Eyes

    http://www.rt.com/politics/317019-nationalist-leader-zhirinovsky-sues-gorbachev/

Nationalist leader Zhirinovsky sues Gorbachev over slander in memoirs

The leader of the Russian Liberal Democrats, known for eccentric behavior, is seeking a million rubles in moral damages from ex-Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, over charges of extremism and provocations in the latter’s latest book.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky claims in his lawsuit that Gorbachev inflicted damage to his honor, dignity and business reputation when he wrote about “extremist slogans” the LDPR leader had vented early in his political career. Zhirinovsky also protested against claims he had been “involved in provocations,” the Moskovsky Komsomolets daily reported on Wednesday.

The lawsuit targets both Gorbachev as the author of his memoirs and the publishing house that released the book. Zhirinovsky is claiming one million rubles (about $15,300) in damages and is also demanding the defendant publicly refutes his statements.

Mikhail Gorbachev’s memoir “After Kremlin” was released by the Russian publishing house “Ves Mir” in 2014. In it the former Soviet leader says most modern problems in international politics, in particular the Ukrainian crisis, are rooted in the hasty and thoughtless breakup of the USSR. He also wrote that a peaceful outcome could only be reached if Russia and the US resume dialogue.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky is one of the most experienced players on the Russian political scene, but his whole career has been littered with scandals and relentless attention seeking – from throwing money into crowds of supporters during election campaigns, to verbal attacks on colleagues and reporters.

In the latest such incident, representatives of the United Popular Front movement asked prosecutors to discipline the LDPR leader after he called parliamentary majority MPs thieves, and accused them of fomenting anti-government riots.

In 2014, the State Duma ethics commission ordered Zhirinovsky to issue a public apology after the politician had insulted a pregnant journalist and ordered his aides to “sexually attack” the woman in front of TV cameras.

Is this a move to court with anti-Stalinist amongst opposition ?

    http://www.rt.com/politics/317172-putin-orders-to-erect-monument/

Putin orders to erect monument to victims of political repressions in Moscow

The Russian president has ordered a memorial to all victims of political repression in Russia’s history. The work named “The Wall of Grief” will be installed on a Moscow street named after famous dissident Andrey Sakharov.

Vladimir Putin also charged the Russian government with finding sources to finance the project.

Sources in the State Museum of Gulag History told Interfax news agency that “The Wall of Grief” monument will be based on a draft created by sculptor Georgy Frangulyan. The museum has already started to collect donations to finance the project. Frangulyan is known as the sculptor of the monument installed on Boris Yeltsin’s grave.

“The monument will become a warning to coming generations that tragic consequences of authoritarian policies touch everyone and can be repeated at any given moment,” reads the author’s description of the Wall of Grief sculpture.

Communists beat ruling United Russia party in Irkutsk region governor's election

Politics and Government of Russia - Page 7 Information_items_3578

Vladimir Putin's supporters beaten in Siberian region.

Levchenko - a member of the Russian parliament - won in the major towns of Bratsk, Angarsk, Usolye-Sibirskoye and Ust-Ilimsk as well as - with a three-to-one advantage - the gold-mining district of Bodaybo. Picture: Andrey Fyodorov/Kommersant

Communist Sergei Levchenko won around 57% of the vote compared to 41% for interim governor Sergei Yeroshchenko, of United Russia. In the first round, the United Russia candidate had slightly failed to secure a win. In the second round, the Communists benefited from active campaigning.

Conceding defeat, deputy speaker of the Russian parliament, Sergei Neverov, said: 'These were honest, competitive elections. We accept the victory of the Communist Party candidate Sergei Levchenko and are congratulating him. Our candidate proved less convincing, in particular, we think he failed to gain support among residents of the city of Irkutsk.'

His campaign manager Yevgeny Rulkov said: 'We worked for this victory and we achieved it.'

Last year United Russia suffered a similar defeat to the Communists in the mayoral election in largest Siberian city, Novosibirsk, with the election of Anatoly Lokot.

    Some older politics...
Today is the 22nd anniversary of the crushing of the attempt to remove the crimminal Yeltsin. This action was carried out on the orders of the crimminal Grachev, and portrayed to the public as a "good thing" by media organisations owned by such crimminals and traitors as Gusinsky and Berezovsky.

Russia needs a strong second party. If the Communists reform themselves and unload Zyuganov and his rotten
legacy, then they can fill the role. Of course having other parties is good too. But power has to be changed
periodically and it has to be genuine and not the phony one party with two branches racket as in the USA.

I think PVO could have some future with Starikow, seems like a good educated man, unfortunatley without political power.

He suppressed challengers to his party leadership almost like the 1930s. He kept the KPRF platform trapped in the
past so that its support at the ballot box shrank as the old generation died off. The KPRF needs to modernize
itself and not remain a fossil of the USSR era. They can do this without sacrificing any of their values. And
they don't have to shift rightward like the EU left. But pluralism is something that they have to adopt and adapt
    to.

The Communist Party again, this time is the issue about retirement age.

    https://www.rt.com/politics/318099-communists-seek-retirement-age-referendum/

After Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev urged the government to think about raising the retirement age, the Communist Party written to him, saying that such a move requires major public support and can only be decided by a referendum.

“I am asking you before giving final instructions to the government about this initiative to thoroughly study the opinions of our citizens in order to [take into account] the potential protest. In this connection I am asking you to consider the possibility of a nationwide referendum or opinion poll to understand what the real public opinion is,” MP Vadim Solovyov wrote in a letter to Medvedev.

In comments to RIA Novosti, Solovyov said that, according to the Constitution, referendums possessed supreme legal power in the country and therefore if the majority of the population rejects the idea of raising the pension age, this possibility should forever be removed from the political agenda.

IMO that can be a good compromise

Let the population itself decide, whether its ready to raise retirement ages a couple notches - for better GDP and 'efficiency' figures on the spreadsheets.

Let the population itself decide, whether its ready to raise retirement ages a couple notches - for better GDP and 'efficiency' figures on the spreadsheets.

Sadly, raising the retirement age seems the norm thesedays. I hope they go for the referendum option though.

Good question i hope Glazjev is going in or Lawrow, so far no other guy i would trust besides Starikow, but he isn't that well known and is rather fresh in politics even tho the purest of all in his political education a very well read and intelligent man. He is in the PVO party and one of his parties maxims is to federalize the Central Bank of Russia not like most other parties that have no plans whatsoever about federalization of what should be long ago under state control.

I'm thinking the mods should relocate this thread in the Russian politics thread.
