Back in March Iran stated they would be producing the Karrer tank then the next thing you know their ordering T-90 lol so do they plan on having a mix? Or plan to copy the T-90 and incorporate T-90 into the Karrer? I know on paper they Karrer is similar to T -90 but is this just a pretext for when they copy T-90? Surely if their tank was that good they wouldn't buy T-90.
But on another note there conversion of their Btr60 to BTR Heidar 5 & 6 minelayer I actually like it and good use for them. Iran needs to get rid of all the USA made stuff including most of the upgraded stuff Iran would be better buying production rights for most things they need and the rest can be homegrown stuff.

Iran generally suffers from same issue as China were most of their technology is knockoffs that were later upgraded. North Korea shares same issue. While Russia does an evolutionary thing while developing new technologies and reverse engineering those they didn't produce before (thermals). Russian tanks as example hold fantastic technology like T-90 and newer. Something Iran can learn from. In the end as well, they may have been able to produce a couple examples of the karrar tank but lets be realistic - do they have the capability to start serial production of them? Do they have modern composite material technology? What about ballistic computers?

Now I think regarding the tech part - Iran does produce, I believe, a SPARC based processor of some kind so they could develop a ballistic computer (assuming they also create the sensors too) and also, I believe the thermals that are available could be modified civilians thermal cameras from China, which would work fine after some modification. But the composite armor tech and engine tech, they may have some difficulty. But not like they can't produce them. Just maybe not en mass.

Interesting photo-report from the modernized "Center for Production, Modernization and Optimization of Armored Vehicles Shahid Zahran" of Iran's Defense Industry Organization. This enterprise was built by the Soviet side during the Shah's regime in 1973-1976 in accordance with the Soviet-Iranian intergovernmental agreement for the implementation of capital and medium repairs of artillery and armored vehicles and vehicles supplied from the USSR, and remains to this day the main armored and repair base of the ground forces Iran.

IRGC Unveils New Anti-Armor Missile, Other Military Gears
The new military gear, dubbed “Azarakhsh (lightning)”, was unveiled during a ceremony in Tehran on Wednesday attended by IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour.
The 127-millimeter caliber rocket weighs around 70 kilograms and can be installed on helicopter pylons.
The missile has a range of 10 kilometers (approximately 6.2 miles) and can lock on to its target, track it and automatically detect it.
The air-to-surface and surface-to-surface missile is also equipped with thermographic detectors with a maximum speed of 550 meters per second.

I can see that sanctions hit Iranian industry. I hope that now with changing game of the west there will be more opportunities for Iran to sell oil/gas and get industry to new level.
I think that neither Russia nor China will stick to any industry/military deals after 2020.

Perhaps T-90AM or MiG-35 will be produced in Iran ? some new helos could be as well.

Unlikly they go for small fighters. They would rather take su-30Iran version for their big country.

Concerning sanctions, it'not like before. Now even EU is not with US on Iranian case and want to open iranian market. China and russia too. If iran calm down about the "destroy israel" thing and don't fall in the US trap of restarting some nuclear hidden activities they could stop the sanctions pretty fast.

I've just stumbled on this old article, from July, but it's new to me. They are talking that the procurement of 800 Karar tanks is done deal?! They are also talking about IRGC and the Army, but not who will receive them and how many.

I also heard they can also shoot down a fighter jet at any speed. Doesnt mean it is true.
