So what? The yard hasn't wasted money, time or manpower in grinding the welds down, just sand-blast back to metal and paint. She is a warship, not some over-glamorous cruise liners for fat and judgmental rich people...

that weld is not a problem it goes in same line as waterflow so it does not create drag or noise. actually on same video at same time , there is perpendicular up-down weld that seems to be grinded to be smooth with the hull.

I am well aware it wont affect performance of the ship in any way (i am an engineer myself so is my father) however its just somewhat of a pain for the eyes. No need for it to be extremly polished or whatever, just if they tooled it abit down, looks like Ural mountain . And stuff like this is very often used as a case aganist Russian industry i was myself present when Turkish pilots were mocking Mig29Ms uneven body surface ("they built it with a sledgehammer" was their comment) compared to their F16s. Improving abit estetics cant hurt especially if you aim to export that product too.

Again i am not saying its some horrible mistake just it would help later too with rust treatment and weld inspections.

Yeah... I remember lots of NATO talk about how pathetic the finish on the MiGs was... of course they shut up after they had a chance to test them with East German MiGs kicking their asses in all their tests... even with derated engines (supposedly to increase their operational life) and their external centreline fuel tank fitted (which limited g performance and made the gun unusable in that model) they still got beaten every single time by the R-73 and MiG-29B.... all of a sudden AMRAAM got full funding and they started pouring money into AIM-9X...

It seems poor fit and finish didn't effect actual performance at all.

The sad thing was that if NATO hadn't gotten that shock... a veritable kick in the nuts, when they went in an murdered Serbs over Kosovo they likely would have gotten a surprise and use all the wrong tactics even against badly maintained not fully functional MiGs.

Regarding the ships... don't waste time with aesthetics... just get the damn things built...

Serbian MiGs were well maintained however they lacked parts for 2 years, they were due to mid life refit in 1997. but there was no money and they started canibalising and improvising but when its about technicians and engineers they did best they could with what they had on disposal. Serbs were badly outnumbered, outgunned and isolated however Serbs are quite versatile, fast minded and they adapt very well, i dont think anyone humiliated NATO in a way than Serbs did, making them spend 70+ days bombing 24/7 managing to destroy only fixed targets like bridges, hospitals and command centers without destroying even 1% of mobile military potential.

Very interesting. It seems that the side-thrusters of the "9M96" use one or more central gas generators that get vented when the thrusters are not required to thrust, hence the black smoke.

When Grigorovich shall arrive to Black Sea? Any estimation?
