The Russian Aerospace Forces in just one day, April 28, hit 86 artillery units of the VFU, manpower and equipment in 112 districts, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. A day earlier, air strikes hit 78 enemy artillery firing positions and several command posts at once. Every day, the number of accurate and destructive strikes of the VKS only increases. Such efficiency of work is the result of the use of the latest guided glide bombs, which relatively recently entered service with the RF Armed Forces. "Izvestia" figured out what kind of new aviation weapons they were.
[]
One of the most anticipated premieres in the field of aviation strike weapons was the unified planning and correction module (UMPC), which can be installed on conventional bombs. In the course of a special military operation in Ukraine, UMPCs are mounted on high-explosive bombs FAB-500M62 - the most massive aviation ammunition of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Detailed tactical and technical characteristics of the new product were not disclosed. But, presumably, the range of bombs of this type with UMPC can be from 50 km to 70 km.
[]
For the most effective destruction of especially protected objects, the use of specially designed guided glide bombs is currently justified . The most famous example is UPAB-1500B. The warhead is a concrete-piercing penetrating type with 1,000 kg of explosive. The delayed detonation timer ensures the destruction of bunkers and deep structures - the bomb does not detonate on the surface of the earth, but breaks through the protective layer of concrete and only then explodes.
For gliding flight, the ammunition is equipped with retractable swept wings and can fly from the drop point to a distance of up to 50 km. The guidance system is inertial with a satellite correction unit. The main goals of such weapons are especially durable military infrastructure facilities, protective structures such as in-depth and reinforced concrete command posts.
[]
Modular planning bomb "Grom" is produced, probably in a small series, but was also seen during the SVO. It weighs about 600 kg (of which 480 kg is explosive). Due to the streamlined shape and developed wing, its flight range can reach 65 km. Guidance is already traditional for ammunition of this type - inertial with satellite navigation.
The main version of the MPU is equipped with inertial and satellite navigation systems, as well as an autopilot. Regardless of the flight range, they provide an accuracy of hitting up to several meters. In the past, it was reported that a control system with a laser altimeter could be developed for the Thunder - it is necessary for the use of volumetric detonating warheads.
The MBCho module has a length of 2.35 m and a diameter of 310 mm. It can carry a high-explosive fragmentation charge weighing 315 kg or a volumetric detonating charge of 250 kg. MBChd with the same diameter has a length of 1.13 m. A high-explosive fragmentation charge weighing 165 kg or 120 mm thermobaric is proposed.
At the moment, it is known about three weapons from the Thunder complex, assembled from the presented modules. The first is the 9-A-7759 guided missile. It consists of high-explosive fragmentation MBCho, MPU, MDU and MRP. A product weighing 594 kg is capable of delivering a 315-kg warhead at a distance of up to 120 km.
When replacing the propulsion system with an additional high-explosive fragmentation warhead, a 9-A1-7759 aerial bomb is obtained. Its warhead reaches 480 kg. Gliding flight range - 65 km. Volumetric detonating MBChs are used as part of the 9-A2-7759 bomb. Despite the smaller mass, such a product, according to flight data, does not differ from a high-explosive fragmentation bomb

Finland in Nato was a redline crossed, US bases in Finland is a redline crossed again. What is the point of nuclear weapons ? What is Russia supposed to do ?Here I thought the US would just build US military bases in Finland while officially denying it. But nope. They are just doing it in the open. This means Russia has to take most of Ukraine.

Is it known when the co-ordinates are downloaded into these glide bombs i.e. before take-off or by the aircraft in flight?

Reorient the border regions trade to cater to different markets so the cut off is not so damaging to them... and then place Iskander missiles in the regions bordering Finland and arm them all with tactical nuclear warheads with all military bases, air ports and population centres in Finland to be targeted by those nukes.
If they think Russia is their enemy then Russia can be their enemy... careful what you wish for.

GarryB wrote:The weapons this article is talking about are dumb bombs with a guidance and glide kit attached, so the weapon is actually guided to hit a specific target... in which case the Gefest & T or the upgraded onboard avionics will tell the pilot when the weapon can be released to be able to manouver to hit the chosen target... he might need to speed up or climb or toss release the weapon or he might just need to fly a little closer for instance.

Sure you can calculate th impact point with Gefest, but after 50 km of free glide it can be much different, right?JohninMK wrote:Do Russian aircraft have the ability to 'talk' to their weapons?
With inexpensive correction sets? I doubt that.
With other missiles? Sure.
