the real military part of the MoD, fulfilled by the General Staff, and the procurement/
bureaucracy part, which is fullfilled by the Minister and his crew.

With the change of the head of the defense department, predictable purges began in the Ministry of Defense: including in relation to people who were somehow soiled in unpleasant episodes. This began with the arrest of Timur Ivanov , and now, apparently, an active cleansing of the defense department has begun.

We confirm the investigative measures against Yuri Kuznetsov (https://t.me/Mestb_Dobroj_Voli/11146) , the former head of the 8th service (protection of state secrets), who now heads the main personnel department of the RF Ministry of Defense: Kuznetsov was no longer at work today.

As far as we know, it was Kuznetsov’s activities as head of the state secrets protection service that came under the investigation’s attention, and not his personnel affairs.

The RF IC confirmed the detention of the head of the personnel department of the Ministry of Defense Kuznetsov

He is suspected of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the investigation, in 2021-2023, as the head of the 8th Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Kuznetsov received a bribe from representatives of commercial structures for performing certain actions in their favor.
During the searches, funds in rubles and foreign currency in the amount of more than 100 million rubles, gold coins, collectible watches and luxury items were discovered and seized.
Based on the investigator’s petition, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Kuznetsov.

The SMO has stress tested the Russian military in many, often unexpected areas, two of which are the tendencies in large organisations for people to be promoted until they reach a level of incompetence and a temptation to help their friends with nepotism or for financial reward.

Under normal circumstances it is often difficult to get rid of such people, often the only way being to promote them to roles where they have less or no actual power.

But being at war, otherwise known as a SMO, is a powerful force for changes which always start in the sharp end where the deficiencies are exposed first, in this case the officer corps. Hence the removal of sundry senior officers of which it is likely that we have only been told of a few. Now, 2 years in, the issues in the MoD and its supply chains are becoming much clearer, exposed by the increased stresses now being felt by the needs of the frontlines, the sharp end that can no longer be hidden.

I think that it is fair to assume from the new appointments that have been made by the Kremlin that a decision has been made to sort it out, driven at a tactical level to get the products the military needs out of the factories at the right time but also perhaps more importantly at a strategic level. By this I mean Russia's need to extract the maximum valid output from its limited but growing skilled technical workforce and production facilities if it is to achieve the role it sees for itself in the future of the World.

We should not underestimate the magnitude of the task, large organisations are rather adroit at resisting change.

Case of the largest bribery in Russian history has reached court - reports

The former head of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) for the Tverskoy District of Moscow - 35-year-old Major of Justice Marat Tambiyev - is accused of ten episodes of accepting bribes, four episodes of preparing to accept a bribe, and of abuse of power.

P1 He has not been arrested yet in fact I think he is being reassigned to a position of one of the guys who has been arrested because he is extremely efficient and effective with his resources. Which is the exact guy the Russia military needs in the rear lines.

Well, many analysts has seen him as competent commander, but he was pointing out shortages of Russian armed forces, what needed to be changed, he complained instead of promising victory in 3 days like Shoigu.
