A meeting of the Board of the Russian Defense Ministry was held at the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation under the leadership of the head of the military department, Army General Sergei Shoigu.
Opening the meeting, the Minister of Defense recalled that today the Armed Forces celebrate the Day of Special Operations Forces: "A well-deserved, earned, won holiday. And today, the Special Operations Forces continue to carry out their tasks."
Sergei Shoigu expressed confidence that in the near future the country will learn about the work and the exploits that are performed almost daily by military personnel of the Special Operations Forces.
"We receive daily reports on their work. They work confidently, professionally, with dignity, for which we thank them and our congratulations," the head of the military department said.

Further, the Minister of Defense informed the participants of the meeting about the situation in the zone of the special military operation.
According to Army General Sergei Shoigu, after taking control of the important Avdiivka node of the enemy's defense, groups of Russian troops continue to improve their position in the Donetsk and Kupyansk directions, seize new frontiers and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the year, about 327 square kilometers of the territory of the new regions of the Russian Federation have been liberated from the Nazis in all directions. Over the past week, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been dislodged from the settlements of Pobeda, Lastochkino, Severnoye of the Donetsk People's Republic.
In other areas, Russian troops continuously carry out powerful fire attacks on Ukrainian military facilities, preventing them from restoring their combat capability.
As a result of the decisive and active actions of the Russian military, the combat potential of the armed forces of Ukraine is decreasing. On average, since the beginning of the year, the enemy has lost more than 800 personnel and 120 units of various weapons, including foreign-made ones, every day.
According to the head of the Russian military department, during the special military operation, the Ukrainian armed forces lost over 444 thousand soldiers.
"After the collapse of the counteroffensive, the military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is trying to stabilize the situation at the expense of the remaining reserves and prevent the collapse of the front," the Russian Defense Minister said.
The combined grouping of Russian troops destroys the enemy's reserves with high-precision weapons, does not allow him to transfer his forces to the line of contact, deprives him of the opportunity to counterattack the positions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
In general, Sergei Shoigu added, this indicates the futility of the US strategy to contain Russia at the expense of the lives of Ukrainians and large-scale military and economic support for the Kiev regime.
"We will continue to carry out the tasks set by the Supreme Commander—in-Chief in the special operation until its goals are achieved," the Defense Minister said.

Turning to the thematic agenda of the meeting, the head of the military department suggested first discussing the issue of ensuring military security in the Central Asian strategic direction.
"The situation in the region remains difficult. The greatest threat still comes from the territory of Afghanistan. Over the past year, the number of Islamic State militants has increased by 15%. Their main goal is to spread radical ideology and subversive activities on the southern borders of the CSTO," Sergei Shoigu said.
At the same time, according to the Minister of Defense, an almost 20 percent increase in drug production and, accordingly, drug trafficking through the republics of Central Asia is expected.
In addition, there are over 100 large pro-Western non-governmental organizations operating in the region, with more than 16 thousand representative offices and branches.
"Against the background of a special military operation, these NGOs have significantly increased their anti-Russian activities in order to reduce military-technical, economic and cultural cooperation between the Central Asian states and the Russian Federation. We are taking proactive measures," the head of the military department said.
Sergei Shoigu informed that this year in the Central Military District, the main efforts will be directed at resolving crisis situations in the countries of the region and participating in seven exercises in the territories of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The result of the training of troops will be the exercise of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO "Interaction-2024", in which military contingents of five states will take part.
Formations and units of the district are equipped with the latest weapons, including Iskander-M tactical missile systems and Tornado-G multiple launch rocket systems. 18 military units will be reorganized. The troops will receive more than 360 units of new and upgraded equipment. As a result, the share of modern samples will be 52.8%.
"The implementation of the planned measures by the end of the year will increase the combat power of the troops and ensure military security in the Central Asian strategic area," the Russian Defense Minister added.

The second topic of discussion at the Board meeting was the implementation of the Activity Plan of the Eastern Military District.
"Washington continues to use the growing tensions on the Korean peninsula and in the area of Taiwan Island as an excuse to expand the presence of groups of troops in the western Pacific Ocean. This year, the scope of joint exercises between the United States and its allies is expected to increase due to the military potential of NATO member countries," the head of the Russian military department said.
In order to strengthen the military security of the eastern borders of the Russian Federation, measures are being taken to increase the combat capabilities of the Eastern Military District.
As part of the state defense order in 2024, it is planned to supply more than 200 units of modern and modernized equipment, including the Tornado-S MLRS, Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems and Typhoon armored combat vehicles.
The main efforts will be focused on the training of reserve battalions, as well as the training of junior specialists and operators of unmanned aerial vehicles.
The district's troops will also take part in four joint international exercises, where the armed forces of Mongolia, India, Laos and Vietnam will be involved.

At the end of the meeting, Sergei Shoigu proposed to consider how the Activity Plan of the Office of the Chief of the RCB Protection Troops is being implemented.
"To date, threats of a radiation, chemical and biological nature are provoked by the actions of Washington, which is increasing its nuclear potential on the territory of European countries and adopting promising means of delivering nuclear charges. In addition, the United States has formed a network of biological laboratories to study the properties of pathogens in a particular region that can be transmitted to humans and cause pandemics. Of 330 such facilities, about 40 are located in Ukraine," the Russian Defense Minister said.
In this regard, in modern conditions, the role of the RCB protection troops is increasing every year.
During a special military operation, the RCB protection troops solve special tasks. In particular, the radiation situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is being monitored.
"In July 2023, the threat of biological contamination was eliminated due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam. More than 1.5 thousand objects on an area of 340 thousand square meters were decontaminated, which made it possible to minimize material and financial damage," Sergei Shoigu recalled.
Heavy flamethrower units, which have completed more than 4 thousand tasks since the beginning of the special military operation, make a significant contribution to the fire defeat of the enemy.
The supply of heavy flamethrower systems with increased combat characteristics increased their combat potential by 2.2 times.
The high efficiency of flamethrower-incendiary weapons has led to the need to increase the production of ammunition for them. Thus, the production of unguided rockets for heavy flamethrower systems and rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers has been increased by 12 times.
"Currently, the equipment of the defense forces with modern weapons and equipment has been brought to 74%, and by 2027 it will amount to 80%," the Defense Minister concluded.
