YouTube, Google to block Russian state-owned channels


Google followed Microsoft’s actions to limit Russian propaganda by announcing Tuesday that it would block Russian state-owned channels on YouTube within Europe and also crack down on “deceptive practices” elsewhere on the site.

Google said it would block the channels Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, both operated by the Russian government, across Europe. “Connected” channels, such RT America, RT Live, and RT Sport MMA, will also be blocked. Correction: Google said that it would only block the YouTube channels across Europe. A previous version of this story implied that the block would be worldwide.

While Google said that it intends to block Russian state-sponsored propaganda on its video feeds, it’s not clear that Google is taking the same actions as Microsoft. On Monday, Microsoft said that it would block news from Sputnik and Russia Today, both owned by the Russian government, from its search results and its Start news feed. On Tuesday, Google said only that it has “significantly limited recommendations globally for a number of Russian state-funded media outlets across our platforms,” without saying whether that includes search results or not.

Google said Tuesday that its actions added on to its existing de-monetization of Russian state-funded media. Google also said that it is working to make “reliable and trustworthy information readily available.” “When people around the world search for topics related to the war in Ukraine on Search or YouTube, our systems prominently surface information, videos, and other key context from authoritative news sources,” the company said in a blog post.

Totally ignoring the fact that China and Russia don't want to be in charge, they want to make decisions for themselves in their own interests.

It shows daddy US in charge and Israel controls the US by more than just money, but if they split will get half your stuff so no split there.

European countries are lap dogs... and we see the Ukraine, but lots of other countries at that level too including Venezuela before Chavez etc etc where they needed their resources, but otherwise could care less about them.

This is the world the US created, and the core reason the west did not accept Russia and Russia did not accept western terms for cooperation was because Russia would join this family as a cat, whom everyone would abuse and tease...

China would get the same treatment and are not interested either... Russia and China have never been groomed as children or animals... they are people and expect to be treated with respect and each has the nuclear weapon capacity to resist any force that might be applied to make things happen otherwise.

The west does not want Russia as a friend and has made this clear...

Russia is now going to try to make it as an independent power as is China and they will do so by cooperating with the rest of the world.

They are idiots, Russia wont keep fighting conventionally, if US army units go in to the Ukraine and start fighting for the orcs, Brussels and the Pentagon will glow for months if not years.

Computer games aside the west does not understand war, for the west it is a game, for Russia it is all about survival.

Russia is crushing an enormous Orc force with a recon force it normally sends ahead of its main force...

The politicians in the west didn't listen to Patton because he was a fucking idiot... the west claims to have won the war with D Day, but plenty of those German forces didn't really fight to the death... many actually thought they could surrender to the west and they would fuel up their planes and tanks and head to the eastern front to fight the Soviets.

Meanwhile the three quarters of the German military on the eastern front fought tooth and nail and were still defeated by the Soviet force that crushed them.

The only advantage the west had was nuclear weapons and they didn't have that many and the planes that carried them couldn't reach Moscow, so they would be bombing eastern europe with them at best in planes the Soviets could easily shoot down.

The core issue is lack of respect, most western civilians know very little about Russia... that is obvious because no one has said... hey... about this new round of tougher sanctions that are going to make them do as they are told by the west.... do we really think that is going to work against a country that survived a brutal nazi invasion before and we are threatening it with again?

If there were Russian supported communist mexicans in Mexico that wanted Texas and California back and you found out they had 80 Biolabs fully funded by Russia, and Russia was helping them develop nuclear weapons... what would the US do?

They invaded Iraq knowing full well the claims of WMDs was bogus, why would they not invade when there is hard evidence?

Sounds like Russia needs to start investing in Bio weapons because it is clear the US never stopped.

Covid is clearly a bio weapon developed in China in a US funded Bio weapons lab... that everyone ignores... perhaps if it was Chinese funded it would be a crime...
