Its ability to swap out its rear pod makes it very modular and very flexible... a very cool new design.

It should actually be a good basis for a super light (without its rear pod) High altitude helo, with the efficient rotor design offering all power to lift.

Equally in high mountains a real problem is side gusts for which small tail rotors are not often effective enough to counter, so the coaxial design should be ideal.

The Ka-226 isn't easy on the eyes, but it's practical. What camo pattern does the guy in the back have?

Su-35C weapons testing ?

Irkut said they will be delivering as many as 10 this year.

Based on the colours I would say it was the red R-77s being tested, the R-73s have black bands so they are not live rounds, though they will have seekers for lock on training.

I think white R-77 is real missile.

Black 01 behind seems to carry big LGB, while red 04 have Kh-31 ARM. I wonder if they have targeting pod for LGB tests.

Test missiles are often painted red and have black and white calibration markings on them so speed and distance can be determined from photos.

The white round might be an operational round used for checking locking range or other parameters, or it might just be a dummy.

The Su-35S's IRST could perform buddy target marking for bombs.

Note the 5th gen avionics of the 35 should allow fully multirole employment of weapons, so air targets, ground based radar targets, and pinpoint hard ground targets should be able to be engaged in a single mission by one aircraft, though they wont operate alone normally.

Fun fact about the Su-35s IRST, the covering is made from crystal, on Su-27 it was glass.

Even greater fun fact... your facts are wrong.

The wavelengths of IR an IRST and thermal imager use glass is opaque and does not let it through... that is why glass houses are soo good... they let the light in which is absorbed into the objects in the glass house and are converted into heat which can't escape through the glass as a wave and is trapped.

Both transparancies are made of crystal, just as the lenses in Thermal Imagers are made of crystal too.

Hahaha... sorry, the problem clearly is the definition of "glass".

Normal every day glass is designed to let optical light through, but block longer and shorter wavelengths like heat.

Obviously a silicone based piece of glass would therefore not be much use on a device that detects heat, but crystaline materials including germanium and sapphire can be used, though if not properly grown they can turn opaque over time and of course are much more expensive.

I rather suspect the Su-27 used Germainium glass, while the Su-35 uses Sapphire. (note Silicone, Germainium, and Sapphire are all called glasses and are actually all crystals.)

It seems there is a new model 80mm rocket getting ready for service.

It has a heavier warhead (9.5kgs vs 4-6kgs) and a longer range (up to 6km compared with 2-4km) and will likely be the basis for the new guided models.

This will make Russian helos and ground attack aircraft and UCAVs more potent...

Su-35 makes big payloads look manageable.

The Kh-31 looks very big on a Mig-29M... and why shouldn't it... it is almost 5 metres long... looks small under a Flanker wing.

Possibly ground crew forgot to remove, or it is just taxiing and will take it off later before flight.

Su-35, Su-34 and Su-30SM are nice combination.
