Re: VVS Russian Air Force: News #1
Do you mean PAK FA?
Su-50 does not exist and will not exist for a while... BTW T-50 means 50th prototype with triangular wing from Sukhoi design bureau.
Otherwise the Su-27 would be called the Su-10 because its prototype was called T-10.
Note also Russian and Soviet fighters have even numbers... Mig 15,17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31,33,35 Su-9,11,15,17,21,25,27,33,35.
Even numbers are for non fighters like the Su-24 strike aircraft or the Su-34 strike aircraft or the Su-30 mini AWACS interceptor, or the Tu-128 interceptor.
BTW last numbers I saw was about 160 by 2020 of PAK FA.
About 96 Su-35s, probably a similar number of Su-30s and Su-27SMs, and probably about 250 Su-34s.

Re: VVS Russian Air Force: News #1
160 PAK-FA by 2020 is extremely optimistic, I would bet on half that number as a solid starting point.
Current Su-35 order is 48, another 48 expected before 2020. So 96 by 2020.
Su-34 order is currently 92, but is projected to go up to ~140 before 2020.
Su-30 has a current order for 30, but another batch is likely, for AF or Navy (12 for Fleet), or for both.

Re: VVS Russian Air Force: News #1
Man I wish the good old days when all those aviation factories that coughed up 50 aircraft per month while now even owning a lot of that huge USSR industrial base now its barely 50 aircraft per decade. i simply cannot imagine how russia is still considered a major global power with this kind of military production. Even Germany can rival this rate.

Re: VVS Russian Air Force: News #1
50 a decade? Far more this decade, when normal funding has been provided. When exports are considered, production is even better.
Helicopter production is massive for example.
Nobody save the US and in some sectors China has the same military aviation production industry.
Germany doesn't make squat diddly in terms of military aviation alone, and their total numbers are nothing to write home about.
And this is Europe's biggest economy....
Back in the "good old days" half the country was working to sustain a massive and exhausting military complex.

More like 200-250, and the plane will be in service for a couple of decades and will only enter service after 2016.
Production doesn't happen by magic you know. Production lines need to be set up and tooled, and workers trained. They currently have 4 flying prototypes... in the next few years they will build 6 more so they have 10 aircraft to get through all the testing quickly and the first serial aircraft to go to testing units in 2016.
If we compare with the only other comparable aircraft... the F-22, it was first developed as a concept in 1981, the first YF-22 was built in August 1990. When did it enter operational service? 2006? over a period when the US was spending more on "defence" than ever before and had not had any economic collapses like the Russians did over the same period...
There is no thousand planes a year factory just sitting there waiting for orders, and it would be an enormous drain on the Russian economy if there was.
The Russians are being perfectly sensible... in comparison the USAF wanted thousands of F-22s, then it was 900, then it was 750 at a bare minimum, and now it is 188 or so.
They plane to order abuot 160 before 2020, though of course they will not likely deliver that many, but longer term plans are for about 200-250.
The simple fact is that upgraded Su-27s and Mig-29s will remain in service for a little while yet, and with minor upgrades they are able to do the job perfectly well. Add to the numbers about 200 odd Mig-31s and parhaps another 96 odd Mig-35s or Mig-29M2s and you have a few options.
The days of the Soviet Union are over... and good riddance... the production numbers were high because the aircraft were simple and basic... a modern Mig-29M2 has better air to air capability than 30-40 Mig-21s and Mig-23s, and in terms of ground attack with the proper weapons it is better than an Su-24 in terms of finding targets, communications, and weapon sophistication. It only lacks in terms of payload capacity and flight range and low level speed and comfort of ride at that low altitude.

Re: VVS Russian Air Force: News #1
Nice.
I would like to see them add both sat guided bomb capability and also the bombing computer system they were fitting to the Tu-22M3 and Su-24M2s.
Being able to use cheap dumb bombs with accuracy makes it a very valuable little aircraft, having computer generated aiming marks in the HUD just makes it more accurate and capable, but for well protected targets then missiles like Hermes and Kh-25 with TV and Laser and IIR seekers would be very useful.
A thermal camera to give night and all weather capability is good news... there was talk of a thermal sight for the Su-25SM, but they cheaped out and said it would use a radar for night and all weather use... which never happened either.

That chart is just authors opinion- it is based on info that we generally already know, but also has some inaccuracies.

It's believed to be more or less correct. The only major thing missing is the recent report about the MiG-35 which came out after this list was compiled.
I'll see if I can translate it in the next few days...depending on available time
