Recall that this project 22120 (code "Purga") was developed by PKB Petrobalt LLC as a large customs vessel by order of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (FCS of the Russian Federation) on the instructions of 2005. After the FCS of the Russian Federation refused this project in 2009, the project was continued to be financed by the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of Russia, and initially 22220 units of the project were classified as border patrol vessels at the Border Guard Service.
The lead patrol vessel of project 22120 with serial number 050 was laid down at Almaz Marine Plant OJSC (currently the Vasileostrovskaya site of PAO SF Almaz) initially for the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation on June 25, 2006 and after completion for the new customer it became part of Beregovoi The Border Guard of the FSB of Russia on April 29, 2011 as PS-581. In the fall of 2011, the ship moved to the permanent basing site in Nevelsk on Sakhalin by the Northern Sea Route, then it was renamed to PPS-824, then to PS-824, and in July 2017 it received the name “Rear Admiral Kolchin E.S.”
The second patrol vessel PS-825 of modified project 22120 with serial number 051 was started by construction at the Almaz SF in April 2011, the laying ceremony took place on November 25, 2011. The vessel became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia on July 5, 2013, and in September of the same year also crossed over to Nevelsk on Sakhalin. For some time the vessel was designated as PPS-825, then again as PPS-825, and since September 2018 it is called “Rear Admiral Dianov”.
At the end of 2016, Almaz SF signed a contract with the FSB of Russia for the construction of another project 22120 patrol vessel (ship) with serial number 052, the initial (maximum) contract price was 1.76364437 billion rubles 44 kopecks. The laying of the Kamchatka patrol vessel (serial number 052) under this contract was carried out at the Almaz SF on May 24, 2017, the Kamchatka ship was launched on May 17, 2018 and became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of Russia on November 23 2018 year.
In February 2018, Almaz SF signed a new contract with the FSB of Russia for the construction of two more border patrol ships of project 22120 with serial numbers 053 and 054, with a deadline for the delivery of both in 2019. The laying ceremony of both Zabaykalye (serial number 053) and Taimyr (serial number 054) ships under this contract was carried out at the plant on May 30, 2018. The Zabaykalye ship was launched at the end of April 2019, and in July the ship became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, although there were no official reports about this. Now, Kamchatka and Transbaikalia have made a joint transition from the Baltic to the North, from where, apparently, they will proceed to the place of permanent basing in the Far East (Kamchatka should make the transition to the place of basing in Kamchatka).
The Taimyr ship (serial number 054) was launched without much publicity in early July 2019.
