Being an American, living in Texas I was not aware the Russians were so flexible with regard to their entry requirements. I think it is a good idea to allow other people to join, it can help build an interesting culture, and take advantage of the different languages spoken by the new recruits. It could also be a situation that a spy is inserted in to this program, although I am sure they have ways to catch them built in to the design of this model. Do Russian Citizen and the Military consider this program to be acceptable? Successful? I think it would be awesome for people in countries that don't have strong militaries, to give this a shot. I just wish I could talk them in to letting me come over and go through a weapons training program with all of the AK's and whatever else they would let me try out! I've been wanting to buy a new AK-47 here in the states, but the sanctions have now made it impossible to purchase a new Saiga AK-47 in the US. The prices are now higher on the usedguns than they were on the new ones prior to the sanctions. I wish our countries could just settle there bullshit and realize that together, united, NOTHING could stop us on earth.

Yes you can. If you really want it. There is a thread on this forum. I've made a post about the requirements there. https://www.russiadefence.net/t3233p300-the-i-want-to-join-the-russian-army-thread
ult wrote:The foreigners can serve in the Russian army, but they have to know Russian language. They must be at least 18 years old and not older than 30. They shouldn't have previous convictions. The first contract is for 5 years, available ranks are private and sergeant. They can apply at military registration and enlistment office or directly at the military unit they want to serve in.

On the official website there is a list of 10 steps required.

For example here is a list of required documents.

British citizen hoping to join
Здравствуйте чуваки!
My name is Nik, my friends call me Nikolai/Kolya, although this is just a nickname, my real name is Nicholas. They call me Nikolai because of my love for Russia and my rudimentary speaking of the language and my ability to read Cyrillic.
The point is, I don't really like England much, most of my friends are Russians, and I hope to move there when I'm older. My plan is to do as much in my cadet training as possible, then go to the British school of higher art in Moscow, then join the military. My ultimate goal, realistically, is ВДВ, if I'm being truthful, I want to make it all the way to Спецназ.
Now I know this is incredibly unlikely, but is it possible for me to get into the ВДВ after completing 5 years of service if I being at 19 or 20?
I have a lot of Vader experience so far, I'm hoping to go on a 6 week cadet course this summer and do my winter mountain foundation course this March. My NCOs say I'm the best cadet in my contingent, on of the most competent and motivated cadets they have ever come across, and my SSI wants me to join the army and go for the Royal marines, but I don't want to go for anything other than спецназ/ВДВ.
Thanks
Kolya
Ps done of my friends actually came to the conclusion that I'm a sleeper agent from Владивосток!

Do you speak Russian? At least at elementary proficiency? And there is no such requirement as experience in other military branches before getting into VDV.
And it is a serious commitment. Especially VDV. There is a high chance that you'll get deployed to another country, for actual combat operations. Take 31 ODShBr for example. They've traveled half the world. Do you really want that?

Yeah, I speak ok Russian at the moment, but I've still got a while to learn. I imagine living for a couple years (higher school of art) would help a lot with that. Also, yes, I would be fine with traveling all over the world for the job, and I have wanted to be a soldier for a ling while, so combat is okay with me

I did some digging.
http://stat.multimedia.mil.ru/multimedia/infographics/parad/contract100.htm
^^ Page 28 for foreigners.
Basically a foreigner can sign a contract for 5 years only, and serve only in the ground forces. They can't sign another contract after the first one expires. But after 3 years of service they can apply for Russian citizenship, but can get it only if they renounce the previous citizenship. So here's that...

Well ground forces only rules out VDV, but then the competition to be in the VDV would be pretty fierce anyway.
You might get a lot of stick from other soldiers... can you take abuse and criticism and bullying?
It is not an easy life by any means... not that I am speaking from experience.

Если ты хочешь getting beat up for the smallest things go for it! Jokes aside if you serve in the Russian army now'a days we are very professional you will probably have a better time then I did my first year. Although keep in mind your lifestyle you know today will be gone, You will be in the army so forget your friends until you come out. And if you know more then 1 language (not including Russian) You can expect to be offered interpreter roles, Or deployed to other countries. When I was serving I knew half English and full Turkish also some Albanian as well as , I was accustomed to Muslim culture and got along with Chechens and Dagestanis in the southern military district. But without getting carried away make sure you go to the Russian army with important skills, Language being one of them.
Other skill sets like potato peeling, And dish washing are very welcomed. Army life is indeed very hard, But after training periods are over you feel accomplished and trust me you wont regret. That being said what's your reason for wanting to serve in the Russian army?

Beat up? Hopefully I can hold my own, I was in the boxing and judo teams at school, only lost a couple of times overall .
Reasons for wanting to serve in the Russian military?
Well, I said before, most of my friends are Russian, my best friend is a Russian, and I want to be a soldier. I don't like England very much in terms of politics.

If it made me more useful, I could try to learn another language, I currently speak English, French, conversational German, and conversational Russian. I'm not sure what the most useful languages to have would be however

Дорогие Друзья,
I see that this thread has been inactive over the last few months and I hope to revive it with this post. I am a 17 year old Irishman/Romanian currently living in Dublin, Ireland. I enjoy life here in the west, but much prefer it in the East. My experiences with the east are in Romania, during the long summers where I would go on holidays for weeks at a time. Life to me there just seems more happy and less complicated than here. I was born in Ireland, and have an Irish passport. But I also had a Romanian birth certificate so I have a Romanian bulletin and am eligible to apply for a passport. I speak English, French, Gaeilge(Irish), and a semi-broken Romanian mixed with Englsih(I could easily mend this by searching up grammatical rules or speaking more frequently with my parents in Romanian. I am attempting to learn Russian on Duolingo, and hourly lessons with professors living in Russia. One of my potential goals in life is wanting to serve with the Russian armed forces. I'd like to know if any товарищ could give me more info about how I should execute this plan. Should I stay in a city for a few years with a student Visa, cor go directly to a recruiting office. Thanks for your help...
Btw if anyone is interested about my parents history in the Socialist Republic of Romania or anything about it feel free to ask and I'll ask them. My father served his mandatory service in 1989 just before the collapse of the Ceausescu regime and my grandfather was a full time aviator. Worked on the engines of MIG 17s, MIG 21, Yaks, and all other sorts. Now would be a good time to ask since I'm in Romania.

How bad is the hazing?
Hey all
I currently live in Australia and have given lots of thought and I have decided to try and enlist in the Russian military.
One of my main concerns is the Hazing. Is it still very big in the Russian military?

As an American what does it take to join VDV
I am currently 14, and deciding that this country is really going down, b/c of the fact of so many stupid leftists. So, once I am military age, I will join the VDV.

Wait till you are 18 because at 14 you don't know enough to make decisions. (I say that as a professional educator and former 14 year old person )
Until then try to learn the language and once you are 18 (or before if you can) get into student exchange in Russia or go there for a long tourist trip to get to know the environment.
Foreigners do serve in Russian military and there is well oiled procedure for that so you should have no big issues there.

Currently I am residing in Australia. But joining a Military is always something I have wanted to do. Now that I have heard that Russia is Having it's own Foreign Legion. I would Just like to ask a few questions about it.
1: is it a foreign legion like the French or is it the Foreigners are put into Normal Units?
2: Is the hazing still really bad?
3: What should I do to improve my chances of being accepted?
4: has anyone you know actually successfully been accepted as a foreigner into the Russian Army?
5: What is the Pay like?
Thanks a lot in advance guys. It has been something that I have thought into a lot and i am just curious as to what I should expect

Russia is the truth
About salary. I think, for foreign soldier, the salary is not that high. You join Russian army not because the salary. Russian is the world savior. Politically right. You wont be the pawn for NWO/Zionist/Israel, but you fight the evil.
If you want money, just join USA/NATO/France legion mercenaries. But you probably will do evil things as you work for NWO/Zionist/Israel
Russia is the truth, i dont think you need to worry about bullying/hazing in the army. Most Russian soldier is a good guy

Здравствуйте
I am from Iraq. I am currently majoring mechanical engineering in a first world country. I always had the dream of a military career and I thought Russia would be a perfect country. I am devastated to have left my country in a fight against ISIS.
I wasn't thinking in joining the Russian army. I just want to gain a rank to have a good start in the Iraqi Army. It should be an academy or university just something that would give me a diploma that I completed a military rank.
It can be in every department. What would be the fastest way.
I will be 24 years old when I am done with my major.
Also, does Saint Petersburg Military Engineering-Technical University offer masters degree?
