The Caspian sea has soon a completely new fleet! Good thing it works well there, as it goes so very slow with all the other fleets.

Kinda funny, all Russian Navy active cruisers are currently in the Mediterranean- Moskva, Peter the Great, Varyag (Ustinov is in repair so it does not count).

That is a pretty serious ant-aircraft and anti-ship force right there, considering they are far from the only Russian assets in the region's waters.

3 636s will be handed over to the fleet in 2014. That is a pretty impressive pace, considering Stary Oskol was laid down in mid 2012. It is planned to be handed over to the fleet in November 2014.

Honestly they could have done it even faster, but they focused on the Vietnamese orders first. Yay for national priority...

They probably made more money off one of the boats they sold to Vietnam than from all three they made from the Ru Navy.

The money they made can be put to upgrading tools, upskilling the workforce etc etc.

France give Russia all the technology on the "Mistral" when ordering the 3rd and 4th ships

All the technology in landing ships, docks vertoletonosnym (DVKD) of the "Mistral", including the combat information management system SENIT-9, France give Russia guarantees in order to Russian Navy's 3rd and 4th ships. This was reported by Itar-Tass source in the military-industrial complex in France

"Transfer of technology package to the Russian side is connected with the construction of two additional ships of this type, it is agreed in the contract in 2011," - he said.

"With the signing of the contract for the first two helicopter stipulated that all of the technology the ship, which insisted on the transfer of the Russian side, will be transferred in order to guarantee the 3rd and 4th" Mistral "- said the source.

The interviewee recalled that during the pre-contract negotiations, the dispute was about two ship control systems of NATO standard - combat information management system SENIT-9 and command system connection (Navy) SIC-21.

A contract worth 1.2 billion euros for the construction of two French helicopter carriers "Mistral" for the Russian Navy was signed in June 2011 in accordance with the agreement, the French side has made a number of changes to the original design. One of the demands of the Russian side was the device ships to carry out combat missions in low temperature conditions.

Vertoletonosny first landing ship dock (DVKD) "Vladivostok" was launched on the French town of Saint-Nazaire, 15 October 2013. At the same time the shipyards in Saint-Nazaire completing the construction of the bow of the second DVKD "Sevastopol".

    Russian Navy Demands Ready-to-Assemble Warships

RIA Novosti wrote:New warships for the Russian navy should be built from ready-to-assembly blocks, navy chief Adm. Viktor Chirkov said Wednesday.

“This is our demand as a customer because the modular principle of construction from ready-to-assembly blocks will not only speed up the designing of the vessels but will also reduce the cost of their construction,” Chirkov said, summing up the results of a conference on the future of military shipbuilding through 2050.

“The Russian navy could receive the first such ship by 2018-2020,” the naval commander said.
According to Chirkov, the modular principle envisions the installation of functional blocks of equipment, including power, communication and navigation units, as well as weapons systems. These blocks could then be quickly replaced for a specific task assigned to the warship, and the vessels could carry out missions that currently require several warships of different classes.

Chirkov said that half of the funds allocated to the navy under Russia’s ambitious state arms procurement program through 2020 will be spent on the construction of submarines and surface warships.

The government has budgeted 20 trillion rubles ($641 billion) for a comprehensive rearmament of Russia's armed forces that will see the share of modern weaponry reach 30 percent by 2015 and 70 percent by 2020.

The navy is expected to receive new nuclear-powered and diesel-electric submarines, as well as destroyers, corvettes, small artillery ships and landing ships.

Some really forward-thinking ideas coming from the Russian military brass, MoD and defense industry

Modular light vehicles with field-replaceable components, unified platforms for armored vehicles, logistics train focussed on just 1-2 types of chassis, more and more of the same parts for helicopters, common airframes for a whole range of different requirements, and now modular ship construction with huge amounts of configuration combinations, and ability to switch and replace as needed.

Production efficiency/cost and versatility taken right to current maximum allowed by today's technology

I don't think any other military has plans that are nearly as ambitious. They are all still focussed on Leopard 2A6s and whatever else.
Only America has something similar in store, and even then mostly for just armoured vehicles; they aren't moving fast towards it either.

Not just that, it is also cross platform missiles and weapons, so that Army Artillery is going to be developed together with Navy artilery... the next short range IIR guided missile... 9M100 is going to be an AAM, a land based SAM, and a naval SAM... possibly even used on submarines!

We already saw land based SAMs adapted for the navy with SA-11/17, SA-19/22, SA-8, SA-3, SA-10/20, SA-15.

And of course Navy planes are now pretty much Air Force planes... Su-34, Tu-22M3M, Mig-29K, PAK FA... and Army Aviation helos are now being adapted to the navy... Ka-52K, while navy helos are being adapted to Army use Ka-31...

Most importantly the conflict in Georgia led to the VDV cooperating closely with the Navy and they have made exercises a regular thing since.

Of course this streamlining of systems and weapons and propulsion and sensors has reduced the number of suppliers so the military is streamlined, but also the Military Industrial Complex behind it is also being streamlined and upgraded with fewer companies getting more of the work.

To be exact they said "during 2013-2015" they are planning to start work on creating a new destroyer class.
Ria ofc made the most sensationalist headline. Honestly I don't think a ship will even be laid down by 2015.

So no changes from current 636 w.r.t to flood ports. Wanted to see the side profile to see if they have made any changes to the propulsion area. A clear side profile would have been better. Thanks for the pic anyway.
