Well AFAIK it is the Altair State Research and Production Association that makes the Rif, Shtil, and Klinok SAMs, so it should not be that difficult to adapt it if there was considered a need.

It is however possible that the Klinok and 9M100 are competing designs rather than complimentary.

I hope they build 3-4 gorshkovs per year in the next 3 years so the number can become closer to the original quota of 20 gorshkovs(and 20 grigoroviches) by 2020 and modernize the obsolete support ship assets of the pacific fleet(it would suck to have only udaloys for the next 10 years)

Could be, though even I doubt they will get that many that quickly... Hopefully the total # of orders will be upwards of 15 or so (like you suggested), which should be more than enough... I think that they will stick to the 6 Grigorovich's, but their lower cost and quicker build time could have their orders and production ramp up further. IMHO, they should build more of them short-term (they are already building a lot of them for India, they could build more for Russia with ease), and more Gorshkov's long-term or something like that. Within ten years, all known Gorshkov's and Grigo's (too long of a name!) will have been completed and commissioned.

There is nothing magical about the year 2020... it would not be the end of the world if they don't have 20 in service in 2020... they could produce them after 2020 and will likely do so if they find them to be useful vessels.

Admiral Gorshkov will be transferred to the fleet at the end of the year.
    http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20141105/1031792384.html

The frigate "Admiral Kasatonov" will be launched before the end of the year and transfered to Navy in 2015.
    http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20141105/1031793521.html

    This is too good.

Transferred without even doing any trials.

"Experimental service" will probably go on for a year or two at the least.

Yep, but like you said, they will probably trial it in service.

Not as bad as producing and developing something at once (cough...F35..cough).

Yes, the ugliest PESA antennas in Human history.
At the beginning I thought they were some wooden covers with stiffeners and then later I realized they are PESA antennas. I was so shocked, such ugly PESA antennas on such a beatiful frigate.

Why do looks even matter? It is a radar system for crying out loud... The only important aspect of its physical design is that it doesn't produce a large cross section.

    Ya'll notice the asymmetrical turret?

I will say, by pure aesthetics, our 130mm gun looks much better than the Chinese one, which is a real clunker in comparison.

Why though? Military equipment is always function over form, period. Like I said, the only "form" that matters in this case is its cross-section. Besides, other covers (like the AN/SPY on the Burke's) look they are made out of Fisher Price plastic.

Nice one TR1! Always gotta point out something that is asym, it drives people like xeno crazy...

Of course it is much more better than Chinese one, actually it is the best looking one in this class(127mm and 130mm) in the world.
As for "function over form" debate, yes, generally I agree, however we are talking about Russian military equipment, so in this case, I want both function and form.
