16 corvettes to be put into service of Russian Navy before 2020

The Russian Navy will put into service 16 corvettes of the near maritime zone before 2020, Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

Borisov was participating in a festive ceremony of laying the first Project 20385 serial corvette Provorny at the shipyard Northern Wharf on Thursday.

In his words, the shipbuilders of the Northern Wharf mainly fulfil the orders to build ships of this type.

Viktor, the article you posted says nothing of a 20386 model. Did you post the correct link?

There are some differences between the first two 20385 ships (Gremyashyy and Provorny).
For example: look at the one versus two masts.

This is the second unit that was just laid down: Provorny

    Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette - Page 5 20385_Provornui_130725_22

And this is the first one: Gremyashyy

I dont know. The link works for me fine.

Anyway all that is said about 20386 I quoted. Basically it is said that 20386 is in development and who said that - no info about the ship.

That 20385 model above is outdated, I am pretty sure all the 20385s have the new unified mast.

    Post  calripson 11/12/13, 09:49 am

Baltic and Caspian fleet modernizations going well, Black Sea Fleet will start to rebuild soon(improved kilo and Grigorovich) as will Northern (Gorshkov and Yassen and 20381). Pacific Fleet seems to get no love and those shipyards in the Far East haven't proven they can produce in a timely manner. It would make sense to me to assign some Gorshkov class, maybe improved kilos, 20381 ect to the Pacific Fleet.

Bigger ships will go to North and Pacific, so they will have to wait their turn. BSF was a priority due to age of most of the fleet, once Yantar is done with them we will see what they build and for what fleet. Same with Baltisky and its current 636 load.

Like you said Pacific Fleet needs Amur Shipbuilding and Zvezda to get themselves into shape (among others), along with that new Pacific shipyard.
The mistrals are going to need escorts....

Viktor , is it not possible to upgrade the 76mm or 127 mm Naval guns to 137mm or 155mm guns ?

BAE Systems is overhauling and upgrading two Mk 45 naval guns, bringing them to the 5-inch, 62-caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 configuration for US destroyers.

That is what the hold up has been about... vessels that in the Soviet Navy would have been fitted with 76mm guns are getting 100mm guns and vessels that would have gotten 100mm guns are getting 130mm guns. Likely the vessels with 130mm guns (Destroyers and Cruisers like Sovremmeny and later model Kirovs) will likely get 152mm guns.

Hey thanx Garry . So , just to be clear are the 76 mm guns been upgraded to 100mm , 130 mm or are they replacing the 76mm with news 100 mm , 130 mm guns ?

The corvettes that are the subject of this thread would have gotten an armament in Soviet times of a single 76mm gun and probably either two 30mm gatling turrets or perhaps a single turret and an SA-N-4 naval OSA equivalent and perhaps 4-6 large anti ship missiles like SS-N-22 Moskit.

Fitting a 100mm gun would have been out of the question because of the weight of the 100mm guns.

The Corvettes being made now will be fitted with 100mm guns that weigh about the same as the old 76mm gun but with a much heavier shell fired over much greater range, plus much more heavily armed in terms of other weapons and choices.

For instance the single UKSK launcher will allow it to carry 8 Onyx supersonic anti ship missiles, but could just as easily carry anti submarine missiles that deliver torpedoes to targets 40km away at mach 2.5, or land attack cruise missiles able to hit targets 2,500km away or any combination of these weapons.

They have developed new light weight 100mm and 130mm guns that are the weight of 76mm and 100mm guns respectively.

The new 152mm gun was developed with the Army and in the army it is entering service as the Koalition. It has an effective range of about 70km and has Glonass/laser guidance to allow precision targeting.

    What the.

The contract with Aur over 20380 construction had DOUBLE the price the MOD is paying for one ship. The first ship was for 6.5 billion rubles, now the contract is for 13 billion rubles.
Yes, you heard that right. For that sort of money Amur better turn into a magic yard.

And this isn't even for 20385!!!

Amur Shipyard has been totally ruined during past 20 years. MOD knows it very well and is actually rebuilding the shipyard(infrastructure and staff recruiting and training, etc).
    BTW I would rather pay 400M dollars for a 20381 instead of a 11356M...
