Re: US Navy ships and weapon systems
On January 12, 2021, the lead tanker of the next generation USNS John Lewis (T-AO-205) was launched at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, California. The new tanker is designed to supply US Navy surface ships at sea, as well as to deliver fuel for carrier-based aircraft. The length of the ship will be 227.3 m, maximum width - 32.2 m, displacement - 49850 tons. The vessel will be able to reach a speed of 20 knots and transport 157,000 barrels of oil products. Tankers will also be able to transport dry cargo and receive helicopters. Crew - 125 people. The program will ultimately purchase 20 new tankers that will replace the aging T-AO 187 Henry J. Kaiser vessels.

US AEGIS multi platform air defence system
Now that the AEGIS system is used, or about to be used, on virtually all USN (plus a few allies) ships plus ground sites and probably, given 'AEGIS in a box' many more future applications, it really needs a thread of its own.
To start it off this is a really thorough interview with its top development manager at Lockheed Martin. This is the intro to a long article on its history and future.
The Aegis Combat System, aptly named after the shield of the Greek god Zeus, represented an absolute revolution in how naval surface warfare could be conducted when it first emerged in an operational form nearly four decades ago. At its core, Aegis was a monumental technological triumph made possible by combining advances in computers, sensors, weapons, communications, and human interfaces into a highly automated system the likes of which would have been considered science fiction not long before its arrival. Since then, Aegis has grown massively in capability and has largely dictated what is possible when it comes to the ability of warships to exert control over the massive volumes of air and sea surrounding them.
While the system is still going strong today—it continues to serve aboard nearly all the U.S. Navy major surface combatants, as well as a number of allies', its perpetual development has resulted in something of a blurry picture as to just how much it has evolved over the years and where it is headed in the future.
With that in mind, The War Zone talked in-depth with Rich Calabrese, Director of Surface Navy Mission Systems for Lockheed Martin, in an attempt to bring clarity to the state of Aegis today, as well as to better understanding its past. And above all else, we wanted to learn about what is on the horizon for what is one of the most important, but often misunderstood weapon systems in the Pentagon's portfolio. What we found out was downright amazing.

Re: US Navy ships and weapon systems
The west has no real land based equivalent to AEGIS... their land based air defence was always assigned to the Air Force who expect to be operating over enemy territory, so long range radar and IADS just really does not make sense for them... they are essentially an aircraft call AWACS... airborne early warning and command and control system... so they detect targets and then manage the aircraft in the air to engage those targets while looking for other threats.
Obviously makes them enormously vulnerable to having the AWACS shot down and then the fighters are on their own... making them much less capable and much easier to find because they have to start using their own radar to find their own targets...

Re: US Navy ships and weapon systems
Tucked down the bottom of the linked article is this on drone boats and a video.
In January, the Marines choose Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark to develop the Long-Range Unmanned Surface Vehicle (LRUSV), which the company described as a "tiered, scalable weapons system [that] will provide the ability to accurately track and destroy targets at range throughout the battle space," in a press release. "While fully autonomous, the vessels may be optionally manned and they will carry multiple payloads, which they will be capable of autonomously launching and retrieving," it continued, adding that loitering munitions would be part of the LRUSV's arsenal. That specific element of the LRUSV effort sounds very similar in many respects to the Navy's aforementioned plans to acquire Block 3 Coyotes configured as suicide drones for employment from other unmanned platforms.

Very interesting move.
This is a ship of the CVN 69 carrier fleet currently in the Eastern Med. This action extends the carrier's protection or projection out into the Black Sea. A notable point is that hey have chosen to move a cruiser not the more normal destroyer into the Black Sea.

Re: US Navy ships and weapon systems
The US Navy is a pathetic, rotten club that the US thinks it can use to beat the world into submission. They sent one of their
tubs to Vladivostok recently to scare Russia into submission over "excessive maritime claims" (LOL) and instead ended up running
with their tail between their legs.
America is in terminal imperial decline. Its delusional leaders think that they can control the Arctic Ocean up to Russia's coastline
with a single decrepit icebreaker and can harass every country into submission. They don't have anywhere near the naval power
they fancy that they do.

Re: US Navy ships and weapon systems
Its not about fighting the US. Its setting boundaries and forcing the US to respect those boundaries. For some reason India sees herself as the junior partner to the relationship when it doesn't have to be that way. The US needs India as much as India needs the US for each other's geopolitical purposes.Sujoy wrote:

Biggest Navy Exercise in a Generation Will Include 25,000 Personnel Across 17 Time Zones
Tens of thousands of sailors and Marines will participate in the biggest U.S. naval exercise in a generation to test how the services will fight across vast distances as they prepare for possible conflict with China or Russia.
Aircraft carriers, submarines, planes, unmanned vessels, and about 25,000 personnel will participate in Large Scale Exercise 2021, which will begin in late summer.

Sanctions and rhetoric coming from the US tells all Russians and Chinese wanting to listen that they have to be vassal states to be friends with the US, so it is much easier for the elites to realise their future is not there.
For India quite a few probably think they can become super rich with US investment, but I suspect Bangledesh is in a worse state than India and able to offer lower price workforces that are more expendable.

Russia releases video of U.S. Navy P-8A aircraft intercept
The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing a pair of Su-30SM fighter jets that intercepts U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea on Tuesday evening.
According to a press release issued by Russia’s National Defense Control Center, Russian Su-30 fighters intercepted a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft that flew close to annexed Crimea.
Russian radar stations detected an aerial target approaching Russia’s state border. Su-30 fighters of the Black Sea Fleet’s quick reaction alert naval aviation and air defense forces were scrambled to identify the target, the statement said.
“The crews of the Russian fighters identified the aerial target as a Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft and shadowed it over the Black Sea,” the National Defense Control Center said.
The aircraft that belonged to the United States was not allowed to violate Russia’s state border, it stressed.
U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft take part in Exercise Sea Breeze 2021.
Exercise Sea Breeze is a multinational maritime exercise co-hosted by U.S. Sixth Fleet and the Ukrainian Navy in the Black Sea since 1997. Sea Breeze 2021 is designed to enhance interoperability of participating nations and strengthen maritime security and peace within the region.
Exercise Sea Breeze 21 is about training together and making new friends based on a shared commitment to peace and stability in Europe.

I wouldn't call it a ship. More like a patrol boat.
