Quite common to place multiple landmines, or command-detonation mines at one particular scene, targetting follow up forces/responders.
Hence why, for example, South Africa developed the range of protected vehicles to go with certain tactics to counter that decades ago.

What is mystifying is the Saudi tactics in this situation. They look like untrained rabble, milling about directionless. It was like Groundhog Day after each event. Rinse and repeat. Terrible. Rolling Eyes

    Very classic form of ambush.

In fact I was expecting an ATGM or RPG to strike the last vehicle. Then you open up with MG's and SVD, and you wipe them out. That's what a mountain guerrilla level attack would look like.

I suppose it's just a low key partizan team, barely above a couple of guys, they took out 2 vehicles, a dozen soldiers... A bigger team would have left none alive.

A classic form of this tactic was deployed in the late 70s in N. Ireland with devastating affect.

Google: IRA kill 18 British Para's in an ambush near Warrenpoint, 27th August 1979. They blew up Lord Mountbatten earlier in the day in County Sligo, killing civilians also.

This is hardly classic and seemed very well planned. The strip for digging in the different IED's/charges was very narrow. usually they employ milk containers (that baby milk reference) of 15/20 litres with explosives, that takes space. There was no apparent wiring on the ground, which indicates remote, wireless detonation (AKA Cell-phone party). To get the cell-phone party right with multiples you need a dude who knows how tu stack the charges, how to avoid overlapping effects (initiating daisy chains) AND how to deal with the cell phones sequence. If radio commanded then there's the issue of not fucking up the channel/charge.

It is very finnicky work and these guys did it VERY properly. Off course it has been done before (Chechen cell-phone parties are well known) but here it is done of such a narrow strip, with the charges well contained and oriented.

I concur the group was small.

Sorry to blast your homeland JohninMK but... London goverment need to seriously examine the mental status of its ministers.

Evidence from a UN report that suggests the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen has targeted innocent civilians may have been falsified by Houthi rebels, a British government minister has alleged.

Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood caused astonishment when he made the claim in the House of Commons on Thursday.

It is hardly surprising given their leader has been described as skull-fscking a dead pig. These scum enabled Saudi Arabia's membership of the UN Human Rights committee in exchange for arms deals.

Agree, would you trust anything someone called Tobias uttered? About as pretentious as you can get, what was wrong with his parents calling him Toby?

Anyway the British Government's finances are so far down the plughole that they are desperate for any money from exports. On top of being delusional about the UK's status in the world, I am afraid that the country's ethics and morals have long gone. I think 'desperation' is the name of the game now especially as tax revenues are starting to drop as recession bites.

The war in Yemen is just not in the press at all here, anything could happen with barely a ripple.

What was the distance the toshka traveled?

It seems yemenis are receiving a little help from IRAN or Russia because
those missiles can't be launched by regular rebels just by pressing a button. You need
specialist with training in such missiles to operate them and you need a launcher too ,something
that you can't build just in a garage with scrap metal. Will not be surprised if IRAN technicians
trained with Russian weapons are helping them. Surprised

That was indict a very precise shot , right on the place. Ukraine did not had such luck
with their tochka.. maybe the missiles have glonass guidance too ,aside of inertial nav.

And an american blackwater commander in yemen? who will have guessed it. Rolling Eyes
They are also in Syria ,but no one believe it. most think Russia and Syria is fighting just jihadist
who took a weapon for the first time.

Iranians might better maintain theirs and unlike Ukrop operators did some training for last 25 years.

OTR's are no rocket science for a trained military (especially the guys trained by their Soviet advisors 20+ years ago oh and pun intended). But closer to now, the Yemeni Army did receive a lot of attention from Russia in maintaining and expanding the capabilities of their SRBM's. There was at least a transfer of 6 missiles from 2000 to 2003 (Ironically at the hight of GWOT).

A US airstrike in southern Yemen has killed the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), according to local media reports.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The drone strike, carried out on Thursday, eliminated Jalal Baleedi along with two other AQAP members, The New York Times reported.

The United States wanted the terrorist leader for his role in planning attacks on diplomatic facilities in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
