Don't worry, they will come sooner versus later! These unions, especially with China, should be very valuable to those other countries.

Re: Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)
Interesting potential members of the Customs Union would be Vietnam and India.
I wonder if there are thoughts to attract a high wage member. Perhaps S Korea? NZealand has been mentioned (I wonder what Garry would think hehe!) Or perhaps trying to attract a non CIS Eastern European state?(beyond Serbia) Or even Greece or Turkey (altho I wouldnt want the latter meddling in Turkic parts of the CIS)
I really dont think Greece sits well with the EU. Speaking to Greek residents.Perhaps Arkapola has some opinons?

I wouldn't be surprised if both of them join, it is more a question of when.Firebird wrote:Interesting potential members of the Customs Union would be Vietnam and India.

South Korea would be great, but they have too good relations with the US (aka, the US has their "connections there").

True, but with all these sanctions even that would test US-Korea relations.Viktor wrote:Mike E wrote:South Korea would be great, but they have too good relations with the US (aka, the US has their "connections there").

Kyrgyzstan on schedule with roadmap obligations to join Customs Union
BISHKEK, September 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Kyrgyzstan keeps implementing all obligations under its roadmap on the country’s accession to the Moscow-led Customs Union, comprised of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and to the single economic space, a Eurasian integration official said on Thursday.
Tatyana Valovaya, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) board member of the macroeconomic policy department for major integration directions and macroeconomics, said Kyrgyzstan showed good results in the implementation of its roadmap and, particularly achieved certain progress in promotion of its agricultural products.
“Therefore, there are no disruptions in the schedule of the roadmap and no difficulties emerge in the implementation of this document,” Valovaya said at a news conference in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.
She said the country continues its work on integration processes and in particular works on the settlement of issues regarding deliveries of Kyrgyz products to member states of the Customs Union.
Valovaya added that in her opinion Kyrgyzstan plans not only to become member of the Customs Union by an earlier date, but simultaneously join the single economic space as well.
In late August, the government of Kyrgyzstan approved at its session, chaired by Prime Minister Dzhoomart Otorbayev, a set of laws under the roadmap necessary for the accession of the Central Asian country to the Customs Union.
Addressing the session, Otorbayev said the approval of the draft bills within the frames of the roadmap on the accession to the Customs Union was a milestone decision for Kyrgyzstan.
The roadmap approved by all interested parties stipulated that Kyrgyzstan would join the Customs Union and the common economic space by January 1, 2015. Considering the state of the Kyrgyz economy, Bishkek insists on preferences on 300 positions.
The Kyrgyz government made a decision to join the Customs Union in the spring of 2011. Six months later, the ex-Soviet republic filed an official request for accession. The Kyrgyz government is currently bringing its legislation into compliance with the requirements of the Customs Union and the common economic space.
Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are also currently at work on ratifying the treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union. It was signed by the presidents of three countries on May 29 in Kazakhstan’s Astana.
The Eurasian Economic Union, which envisages the free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and is based on the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will become operational from January 1, 2015.

No option for Kyrgyzstan but to join Customs Union — Kyrgyzstan president
BISHKEK, October 27. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan has no option but to join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said on Monday.
Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Customs Union can lead to the rise in inflation and prices, he said.
But otherwise the country will face the biggest social and economic problems, Atambayev said during a session of the National Council for Sustainable Development.
“If we give up the accession to the organization (the Customs Union), we can face increased risks. No offence but we’re choosing the lesser of two evils. We have no other option,” he said.
He believes that the republic should join the Customs Union just now in order to have equal conditions and rights with other participants in the Union and get certain preferences, loans and grants.
Atambayev called the conditions for Kyrgyzstan’s admission to the Customs Union as “good”, including the creation of a development fund at the size of $1 billion. “To preserve stability in the country is most important for us now,” he said.
The Kyrgyz authorities made a decision to join the Customs Union in 2011. In May 2012 all parties concerned approved a program of the republic’s joining. Under the “roadmap”, Kyrgyzstan should become a full-fledged member and join the common economic space till January 1, 2015. At present, the Kyrgyz parliament is discussing draft laws on integration processes.

Russia wants to see Tajikistan in Eurasian Economic Union
MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russia and Tajikistan are engaged in negotiations on the republic’s accession to the newly-formalised Eurasian Economic Union, Russia’s parliamentary upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on Thursday.
“Our Tajik counterparts are examining conditions for possible membership,” Matviyenko said. “We hope very much that Tajikistan will also join the Eurasian Economic Union eventually.”
Tajikistan’s upper house speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaydulloyev said a final decision to join the union will be made after the ongoing negotiations.
“We support integration essentially,” he added.
The Eurasian Economic Union, which envisages free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and is based on the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will become operational from January 1 next year.
A treaty to create the union was signed by the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, Vladimir Putin, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Alexander Lukashenko, in May of this year. Membership is open to other states assessed as sharing the assembly's aims and principles, its founders say.
Tajikistan has pledged to do everything possible to saturate Russia’s consumer market as the two countries’ upper house parliamentary lawmakers signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday.
“In response to the hasty sanctions imposed outside Russia, Tajikistan citizens have always been together with Russians,” Tajikistan’s upper house speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaydulloyev said after the signing. “We will do everything possible to saturate the Russian consumer market.”
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko noted positive dynamics in inter-state trade against the background of general economic recession in the world. Trade between Russia and Tajikistan had grown by 21.7% in eight months, she said.
Over the last nine months, two-way trade reached $1.5 billion - 1.5 times more than in the same period last year, Ubaydulloyev added.
The two countries’ regions are due to sign five new agreements later in the day.

Eurasian Economic Union to boost ties with South America's largest trade bloc
BUENOS AIRES, November 26. /TASS/. The Eurasian Economic Union, which is due to go into effect in 2015, and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) have almost agreed on a memorandum of understanding, a minister for trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission told TASS in an interview on Wednesday.
“We have in fact completed the work on the memorandum of cooperation in the economic sphere between the two integration associations,” said Andrey Slepnev, who leads talks with Argentina, the current chair of the Mercosur trade group.
“The document covers the spheres on which we will be holding a regular dialogue, first of all, the issues of trade facilitation and removing barriers in trade, as well as investment cooperation,” Slepnev said.
The official said the document could be signed in 2015.
“We have reached a common understanding on the need in the near future to launch the drafting process of a full-fledged legally binding agreement between the two blocs that form the already new legal basis for trade between the Mercosur states and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU),” he said.
Slepnev said yet there is no talk of an agreement on a free trade zone, but the sides understand that this is a goal which should be achieved in the future as the whole world, including South America, is moving in this direction.
“We should use various mechanisms for diversifying and boosting our economic contacts. One of the problems is a narrow spectrum of trade and our business circles which are involved in the work with the Latin American region,” Slepnev said.
Mercosur is a bloc, established in 1991, which comprises Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. The EEU members are currently Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Kyrgyzstan is expected to join the union soon.
The two trade blocs account for over 7% of global economy.

I think he's talking about economic unions, but there's no need to destroy the EU due to fact that it's political leadership is dominated by slimy invertebrates...they're destroying themselves just as easily.
