Finally some good-hearted Russian uploaded the video from Telegram, which I cannot watch, to the Youtube...

During the Soviet–Afghan war the T-62 was the primary tank used by the Soviet army

They made a lot of sense in Afghanistan where tanks were just mobile gun platforms and the enemy had little to no armour at all.

There will be many situations where a mobile gun platform is needed to support infantry but does not need to engage enemy tanks because they don't have any there.

At the battle of Kursk the Germans used Tigers and Panthers as a spearhead to punch holes in the Soviet defences, while older weaker tanks followed through where their lighter armour didn't matter...

The number of upgrades that could be applied to older vehicles to keep them useful is enormous, but of course they are no substitute for modern vehicles... but they have lots of those too... and can send those where older platforms are not so useful.
