In the take-off magazine No. 18 Nov 2010, Yuri Bely, GM of Tikhomirov-NIIP , said that "Just a fortnight ago, in late September, there was the first successful launch of an upgraded air-to-air missile by a Su-27SM3 prototype, with the missile hitting its target. To extend the missile’s range, we had upgraded the antenna, transmitter and RF update channel of the Su-27’s organic radar".
Do they upgrade the existing N001-01A twist-cassergainian antenna or replace it by new one (new twist-cassergainian or even Pero PESA anteena). If they upgrade the exiting antenna so what components / how are they upgraded? Thank you.

So now Su-30SM will be delivered in similar scheme to the Su-35? Notice the light blue in the back, not the dark grey we have seen so far.
They really need to make up their minds.

I think those will be for regular squadrons in far east and with usual light blue colors they could easier mix with other Su-27SM/UB planes. in dark gray it is easier for enemy to distinguish them from other flankers.TR1 wrote:http://s6.uploads.ru/MInhF.jpg

The air base of Eastern Military District (EMD) located in Transbaikal will take delivery of Su-30SM fighters in 2013, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of the EMD’s press-service, Lieutenant Colonel, Alexander Gordeev.
"The advanced “4++”-generation Su-30SM fighters will be delivered to the airbase located in Transbaikal by the end of this year. I am talking about full-scale arming of our aviation units", — Gordeev said.
According to him, most of the airbase’s pilots have already passed retraining for piloting the new jets in special training centers of the air forces. "In the near-term they will carry out acceptance procedure at the manufacturer’s site and then the pilots will ferry the jets to their home base", — Gordeev explained.
The multi-role Su-30SM fighter was derived from exported Su-30MKI jet in accordance with the requirements of Russian Ministry of Defense in terms of radar, radio communications systems, friend-or-foe identification system and more powerful weapons with upgraded homing system. Besides attaining combat tasks this fighter can be used for training the future pilots of fifth-generation fighters.
