MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. The Kalashnikov Concern is going to display a lineup of new helmets at the Expotechnostrazh exhibition, which are made using ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene, the company said on Monday.

The Defense Ministry’s publication the Krasnaya Zvezda reported in 2021 that Russia had developed a unique armor material from ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene and ultralight composite materials derived from it. Their quality is significantly superior to the quality of foreign armor materials. The UHMWPE can stop shrapnel flying at a speed of 670 m/s, while similar Israeli material called UD and US aramid organic plastic that’s based on Kevlar stop shrapnel that fly at a speed of no more than 630 m/s and 480 m/s, respectively.

Moscow. 19 October. INTERFAX.RU - "NPO Special Materials" now sends every day directly to the Ministry of Defense 1,500 bulletproof vests and armored helmets, Oleg Chikarev, deputy general director of the company, said at a round table in the Federation Council.

"This year, after the start of the special operation, our company has changed a lot, we have increased our volume of production of personal armor by nine times", he said.

Earlier, on October 19, at the plenary meeting of the Federation Council, Senator Lyudmila Narusova said that she had talked with the mobilized and their parents at a mobilization point in the Moscow region. According to her, the mothers complained that "a bulletproof vest of the fifth degree of protection, which in January cost 7,000 rubles, today costs 135,000" rubles.

Speaker of the House Valentina Matviyenko instructed relevant committees to find out why bulletproof vests and other uniforms have risen in price "to heaven" and to deal with "capacities that produce clothing, bulletproof vests, and helmets."
