Russian servicemen depart for India to take part in joint military drills

The Indra-2018 exercise will take place on November 18-28

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. The majority of Russian servicemen, who are to take part in a Russian-Indian exercise, Indra-2018, left Russia’s Far East on Friday, the Russian Pacific Fleet’s press service said.

Two Il-76 military transport planes with 250 servicemen on board took off from the Russian Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

Earlier, a group of Russian military officers arrived in India to assist in preparing the drills.

The Indra-2018 exercise will take place on November 18-28 and involve about 500 Russian and Indian servicemen. The Indian side will provide the Russian servicemen with combat hardware to drill practical actions. The troopers will drill joint planning of a peacekeeping operation, interaction between staff representatives and ground forces of the armies of the two countries as well as tactical maneuvers to neutralize conditional illegal armed groups.

The Pacific Fleet task force left territorial waters of India and continued its journey

VLADIVOSTOK, December 16. /TASS/. Russian-Indian exercises, Indra Navy 2018, ended on Sunday in the Bay of Bengal near the Indian port of Visakhapatnam, the Pacific Fleet information department of Russia’s Eastern Military District reported.

"Today, the Russian-Indian Indra Navy-2018 exercise was completed near the Indian port of Visakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal. It was aimed at practicing naval cooperation between sailors of the two states in protecting navigation and other economic activities at sea," the press service said in a statement.

"During the exercise, sailors of Russia’s Pacific Fleet and Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet improved their practical skills of joint tactical maneuvers, refueling of ships from a tanker while in motion, an inspection of a suspicious vessel," the Russian side said.

Besides, the combined forces practiced artillery fire at naval and aerial targets, submarine hunt, use of depth charges against an enemy submarine, as well as takeoff, landing and use of ship-borne helicopters.

After the active phase was over, a farewell ceremony took place in the sea. The Pacific Fleet task force left territorial waters of India and continued its journey.

The maritime part of the bilateral Russian-Indian naval exercise Indra Navy-2018 was held on December 13-16. Russia sent the Pacific Fleet’s flagship, the Varyag missile cruiser, the large antisubmarine ship Admiral Panteleyev, and the large sea tanker Boris Butoma. The Indian Navy is represented by the Ranvir guided missile destroyer, the Kadmatt, Kuthar and Khanjar corvettes, and the Jyoti tanker. Over 10 warships and support vessels from both countries, planes and helicopters of the Indian Navy and a helicopter from the Admiral Panteleyev took part in the exercise.

Land Forces to conduct seven exercises with foreign colleagues

In 2019, within international military cooperation, the units of the Land Forces of the Russian Armed Forces will take part in seven joint exercises with colleagues from foreign countries. The maneuvers will be peacekeeping-oriented. Also, during the maneuvers, they will practice fighting illegal armed formations.

According to the plan of international military cooperation for 2019, the units of the Land Forces will have to demonstrate their skills in Egypt, India, Mongolia and Tajikistan, where they will take part in the Friendship Arrow 2019, Indra-2019, Selenga 2019 and Unbreakable Brotherhood 2019 exercises. Joint exercises with the Land Forces of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic will be held for the first time.

At the same time, the units of the Southern Military District will host servicemen from Algerian people's Democratic Republic and Islamic Republic of Pakistan at their training grounds.

Participants will practice joint planning of peacekeeping operation, cooperation of headquarters and units of the both countries, as well as tactical actions to eliminate mock illegal armed gangs.

MOSCOW, June 11. /TASS/. /TASS/. The first Russian-Laotian military tank drills "Laros-2019" will be held in Laos in December, spokesman for the Russian Eastern Military District Alexander Gordeyev said on Tuesday.

Gordeyev said that the militaries of the two countries held a conference on organizing and holding the military exercise.

"During working meetings, a name for the drills was picked — "Laros-2019." Moreover, the timeframe was established, along with the theme, main tasks and stages of the upcoming joint drills," Gordeyev added.

He noted that Russia will be represented at the drills by tank operators from the Transbaikal unit of the Eastern Military District and logistics specialists.

One of the main aims of the joint drills is to expand bilateral military cooperation, including in the sphere of fighting against international terrorism.

MOSCOW, September 18. /TASS/. The main phase of the Russian-Belarusian exercise Union Shield 2019 has begun at the Mulino proving ground in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, as follows from a news release issued by the Western Military District.

The participating troops will practice cooperation in repelling superior enemy forces and mobile defense.

"Russian forces will carry out a counter-attack," the news release reads.

Russian and Belarusian troops will use the tactics of tank and helicopter ambushes, fire carousel, landing of tactical airborne groups, massive fire strikes and improvised combat tactics.

Taking part in the main phase of the Union Shield 2019 exercise, due to last till September 18, will be 12,000 troops, 950 pieces of military equipment, including armored personnel carriers BTR-82A, mechanized infantry combat vehicles BMP-2 and T-72B3 tanks, Sukhoi-30SM planes and Mi-8AMTSh and Ka-52 helicopters.

Russian air defense forces arrive in Egypt

"The first joint live-fire exercise was held at the Ban Peng training ground <…> Tank crews from Russia and Laos used T-72 MS tanks to practice mobile defense with the prompt change of their positions, and also counter-attacks. In turn, a reconnaissance unit of the armed forces of Laos conducted search operations to detect notional militant groups and ‘terrorist’ training camps," the press office said in a statement.

Russia, Indonesia agree upon first joint navy exercises timeline

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. Russian and Indonesian military have agreed upon terms and location of the first Orruda-2020 joint naval exercises, Russian Pacific Fleet press service announced Friday.

"The sides have preliminary agreed upon the location, the timeline and the membership of the upcoming exercise," the fleet said without providing further details.

The working groups’ negotiations have been ongoing in Vladivostok since March 10. Russia was represented by the Pacific Fleet International Military Cooperation Division, and Indonesia was represented by a delegation led by Captain Sigit Santos.

A cultural program has also been prepared for the Indonesian guests, which included a visit to the Pacific Fleet Museum, the S-56 museum submarine and a tour of historic places of Vladivostok.
