Wonder why not more countries buy the s-300VM which is more than good as an ABM against north korean, iranian and israeli missiles. And the price is given at 120 million $
which is 1/4 of s-400.

It is a perfect complement to future medium S-350 and short tor/pantsir without the need to buy the expensive s-400.

Also maintenance and operation costs of tracked vehicles are higher as for wheeled ones.

because countries buying form Russia wont be attacked by Korea neither Iran.  And It is hard to sell anything to Iran due to Zionist lobby all over the world.

Russia sells to any country that wants to buy no matter their relations with iran or north korea.

Emirats and Saudi Arabia, South Korea are full of money and in desperate needs for ABM systems. They all have operated or intend to operate russian systems. They can get over US pressure if they really want such system.

Pakistan and taiwan (less likely to happen since china would impose sanctions on russia then) could also be interested in such systems.

I agree. But not a problem for who needs it since the system is pretty cheap itself. And it is not supposed to cover thousand of km per year like a tank. During peace time it would most likely be always operated at the same place near its storage area.

They also make it lighter by taking off the armor that is useless for such system and use some light materials.

I asked Rostec CEO Chemezov about S-400 deliveries to China and if it included 40N6 interceptors. He said it did, but a storm struck the ship that was delivering the missiles and destroyed all of them. Almaz-Antey, Rostec’s S-400 producer, is now making replacements for China

Kaliningrad Region Air Defense Strengthened With S-400 Regiment

Actually the Russians and Soviets liked surprises in training... sometimes an air defence unit might be told it has an exercise and to get fully ready and then when they are about to start a whole lot of fuel trucks arrive and they are told they are not training at the local range and have to route march 800-1,000km to another shooting range to defend a ground unit from air attack... so they did get lots of road time and did not sit tucked away in storage during peacetime...

Yefim Gordon mentioned in one of his books that Russia was testing SAM´s and AAM´s guided by fighter jets (MiG-31´s). Don´t know how far this tests went.

To get third party target data and guide the missile with that, and use the X band radar as a communication relay and for final illumination .

Then there's the Universal-1E (E for export) Air Defence C3I System, which can transmit radar data to a 3,200km radius, which translates to 6,400km range in diameter (in its export form). When you combine a couple 91H6E on the opposite ends of Universal-1E you can detect combat aircraft in an area that is 7540km in diameter...a diameter almost twice the size of Australia! So there you go, the curvature of the Earth is solved with the use of strategic command posts.

According to experts, the first method is technically flawed: over-the-horizon radars operate at low frequencies and cannot determine the exact coordinates of a target that is more than three kilometers away. Have seen comments about A-100s directing R-37M missiles at low flying targets with low RCS, but of course the obvious... the Su-30M that passed on target data to the MiG-31 that was testing the R-37M but did not have the MiG-31M radar so it could not detect the target it was firing at. An Su-30M flying closer to the target passed target data back to the MiG-31 so it could launch its missile... which seems perfectly normal... most ARH missiles fly on autopilot to an intercept point where they turn on their radars to detect targets because most of the time at launch their little radars don't have the range to see the target anyway.

The Americans using SM-6 missiles is no surprise... they don't really have anything else in their quiver that is similar.

Expect new ground launched ballistic missiles based on the Pershing II design to appear real soon...
