Tor in the back doesn't protect in the front. With drones now it is is easy to choose where you attack.

They will need laser weapons and missiles.

They will need at least the shtil-1 with 70km range missiles.

But again that needs to be a dedicated navy ship for war time engagement.

This ship with modularity is very good for coast guards. Main task for coast guards are watching civilians and civilians boats, not participating in wars.

And? coast guard vessel or not this is essentially a warship. It's also very large and not will be able to maneuver well in the artic meaning its a sitting duck, the very excuse such a large hull is a "CG" and doesn't need a dedicated air defense is absurd

Compare it to any medium to large OPV's and Coast Guard ships around the world and see what you get.

Currently the largest US Coast Guard ship is the Healy icebreaker - at 16 000 tons  and it has no armament whatsoever  Laughing
The next gen US icebreaker Polar-2 will have a 22 000 ton displacement armed with 2x30mm guns and some M2 HMG's. thumbsup

difference is The Healy is a dedicated icebreaker, this thing isn't it's supposed to perform much more roles then crack ice

apples and oranges, your trying a straw man argument

You mean like this US coast guard ship ? Cost guard ships are used to hunt illegal fishing, border safety, drug dealing ships... not fight against a destroyer or a frigates.

You need to keep price low. Add an air defence system and the price goes up by 50 million and you need 10 more crew.

You see when they build a patrol ship to operate in the Arctic the hull will have to be capable of braking the ice cap in order to operate in the "Arctic". Rolling Eyes

It is basically a dedicated armed icebreaker...Wink

The icebreaking capabilities of the Healy class are not better than the russian 23550.

The russian analogue of the Haley class anyway is the 21900 diesel Icebreaker, which has similar size as the Haley class and probably is better for towing than the 23550.

They plan to induct it by the end of 2024: https://sudostroenie.info/novosti/41502.html

    https://expertnw.com/news/boevoy-ledokol-ivan-papanin-gotovitsya-k-priemu-v-severnyy-flot/

For better or worse, the class will be operated by both the RFN & the Coast Guard (under FSB command), so there will be 2 variants.

Tor in the back doesn't protect in the front. With drones now it is is easy to choose where you attack.

TOR is vertically launched so as long as the radar it uses to search for and track targets and therefore also track outgoing missiles cover 360 degrees then the missiles will also cover 360 degrees too.

After being launched upwards the side thruster rockets in the nose of the missile roles the missile in the direction of the threat... it could roll towards the front of the ship and fly up over the main mast and then drop back down as it accelerates forward towards the target... its flightpath is managed throughout the missiles flight based on target information.

Obviously having some missile launch tubes at the front and sides and rear of the ship would be good too.

True for small drones. In the area where that ship will operate you need a quite large
drone to achieve the neccessary range to be able to hit it.
