The head of Turkish Aerospace Industries said that the stealth TF-X fighter will cost $100 million per fighter. Not only is that more expensive than the F-35, but it is also far more expensive than the Su-57.

He can say whatever. He's not building one, ever. Turkey ought to get back to building drones and let the big boys with enclosed technological cycles keep talking.

Hold on... an export Su-57 is not going to cost the same as it does for Russia to buy them...

I would think an export Su-57 would probably cost around 90-100 million per plane too at least to start off with... depending on the customer.

I would think it would be cheaper to operate than the F-35 though because Russia couldn't afford a plane that was that expensive to operate...

The Pentagon has found alternative suppliers for the production of 1005 components of the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II fighter, currently produced by Turkish companies.

Good.... the more F-35s they produce the better it will be for the whole world... nothing sucks money from a defence budget than an American white elephant product like F-35. I hope they make 10,000 of them.

As more data comes out it must be a huge sigh of relief in the Turkish MoD that it was the US that broke the contract and let them escape.

I agree... which will probably explain why a large number of US allies are now probably looking to buy S-400s Twisted Evil

We all need to make up some usernames and join f16.net and tell them the best solution is to make so many F-35s that they will have to fix the problems with the machines and get them working properly.

I mean the Chinese have had the complete plans for the F-35 for years now... I would think they could suggest a few solutions and get production... no... wait a minute... they might fix it and produce it affordably... that is not what we want.... Twisted Evil

That they don't seemed to have made large scale use of those planes is telling on its own.

The Turks have now gained all the technical and organisational benefits from their involvement in the F-35 program, its just the work they have lost.

They were also doing deep P&W F-135 engine maintenance, wonder where that has gone too, its been very quiet on that front. This was 6 years ago

In the European region, F-35 initial airframe MRO&U capability will be provided by Italy by 2018. Should additional airframe MRO&U capability be required, the UK would be assigned to supplement the existing capability. In the European region, engine heavy maintenance will initially be provided by Turkey, also in 2018, with Norway and the Netherlands providing additional capability approximately 2-3 years after Turkey’s initial capability.

These maintenance assignments do not preclude the opportunity for other F-35 Partners and FMS customers, including those assigned initial airframe and engine capabilities, to participate and be assigned additional future sustainment work, to include component and system repairs, as the fleet grows and F-35 global presence expands.
