The above sums up how Crimea lived under Ukrainian occupation after 1991 and what is happening there now.
The string of regimes in Kiev after 1991 did not invest anything into Crimean Autonomous Republic. Only the
oligarchs and neveaux riches seized prime coastal property. Including nature preserves.

    Good riddance to Kiev's rule.

Let the new regime and the Right Sector goons try to take it back. It will be a good pretext to clean them out all the
way to the border of Poland.

Over 125,000 tourists to come to Crimea for May holidays

MOSCOW, April 30. /TASS/. Over 125,000 tourists may visit Crimea for May holidays, which is 9,000 more than in the same period in 2014, Crimean Tourism Minister Yelena Yurchenko said Thursday.

"Last year, 116,000 people spent their holidays in Crimea in the same period," Yurchenko said.

She said tourists started arriving in Crimea before the May holidays and will be there until May 10-12.

Citing Crimean Tourism Ministry statistics, Yurchenko said 329,000 people had vacationed at the republic's recreation facilities since the start of the year.

Experts forecast that a record number of people will visit Crimea in 2015.

Deputy chief of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Yury Barzykin said Crimea is becoming a more popular holiday destination among Russians.

"Last year, the peninsula was visited by slightly less than 4 million tourists, and this year, there could be more than 5 million," Barzykin said.

Svetlana Dudukchyan, the director of a travel firm in the city of Sochi, said residents of her city and its surrounding coastal area also actively travel to Crimea.

Dudukchyan said there are a few reasons for such activity, in particular transport accessibility thanks to new flights with cheap tickets and low prices for rooms in Crimean hotels.

Russian government includes future transport link with Crimea into M25 highway

The construction of a transport pass across the Kerch Strait will create a new transport corridor between Russia and Crimea, the government resolution said

MOSCOW, May 4. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a resolution to include road sections and a transport link expected to be built between mainland Russia and the Crimean peninsula by 2018 into the M25 federal highway, the government’s website said on Monday.

The construction of a transport pass across the Kerch Strait will create a new transport corridor between Russia and Crimea, the government resolution said.

"A new transport route will include a road approach intended to be built from the highway to the transport pass across the Kerch Strait, the transport pass across the Kerch Strait, a road approach from the transport pass across the Kerch Strait to the city of Kerch, and also road approaches to the sea ports of Kavkaz and Taman," the government resolution said.

The Russian government earlier said it was considering building a bridge across the Kerch Strait to Crimea as a more preferable option compared with the construction of a tunnel.

Crimea used to be part of Russia from 1784 until 1954 when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev handed it over to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in a voluntaristic act. Crimea remained part of independent Ukraine after the USSR collapsed in 1991.

A people’s referendum was held in Crimea on March 16, 2014, in which most people voted for reuniting with Russia. On March 18, 2014, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Crimea’s integration into Russia.

Massandrah wine is generally considered to be a wine to die for. Some of the new vineyards are right next to Balaklava and seem to be just replacement for a few long abandoned vineyards. This area, in The Valley of the Shadow of Death of Light Brigade fame, is known for having a unique climate that is well suited to vineyards. The Greeks brought the first vines with them 2500 years ago. Most of the settlements all along the north and east coast of the Black Sea were started by the Greeks.

Inkerman winery, on the other hand, dates back quite some time but the wine comes from a slightly different area and the difference in taste is noticeable.

There is some confusion till as to who is doing what to which winery and methinks the fat lady has yet to sing concerning both entities.

I think Champagne was produced in the Crimea in the Soviet days. Very good Champagne actually.

Is it still being produced there?

I thought Crimea only had a robust wine market, but champagne too? It's interesting because Crimea's climate is very similar to southern France.

Our Natalia Poklonskaya is really quite the lass. She's just a tiny thing but she's got bigger stones than 99% of the men in Krimu. When the search was on for a new head of Procorotora the post was offered to quite a few jurists of the male persuasion. All turned it down for numerous reasons but reality is they were afraid. She didn't hesitate when the post was offered to her. She has made vast progress in cleaning up the legal system in Krimu.

Bridge Linking Crimea to the Mainland Already Under Construction

The 19-km bridge will link Crimea to Krasnodar through the Kerchen Strait

    http://russia-insider.com/en/russia-crimea-bridge-already-under-construction/ri7153

RUSSIA, May 20, (Novinite) - Russian construction workers are already building a bridge that will link mainland Russia to the Crimean peninsula which the country incorporated last year.

The news was first announced by a Crimean association called “Simferopol” (the administrative center of Crimea) which posted pictures of the works on Facebook.

The 19-km bridge will link Crimea to Krasnodar in “mainland Russia” through the Kerchen Strait, which connects the Azov and the Black Sea.

The company tasked with building the bridge is Stroygazmontazh”, owned by Russian businessman Arkady Rotenberg who is often pointed to as part of President Putin’s inner circle.

Construction is scheduled to end in 2018, according to local media outlets such as Korrespondent.net. Others mention a possible price tag go USD 8 B.

Crimea broke away from Ukraine to join Russia after what it describes as a local referendum, in a move which failed to gain much international recognition and which ever seen has been a bone of contention between the West and Moscow.

For those who were born after the collapse of the USSR: the Soviet period - the heyday of the South Coast resort. Every day in the summer Simferopol airport received 230 aircraft (every 7 minutes), in 2013 - 23 aircraft. At the Simferopol railway station arrived 63 trains a day in 2013 - 31. Trolleybus made 500 flights a day with an interval of 4 min., In 2013, 61 flights a day within 15 minutes. Maritime transport served 6 million 300 thousand. Passengers a year, in 2013 - 1.5 million. The total number of tourists per year in the Crimea in Soviet times was between 8 and 10 million people., Including kursovochnikov and "savages" of them 3 million holidaymakers traveling. The cost of 24-day treatment and rest in Soviet times - 30-40 rubles. when the actual cost up to 170 rubles. The average salary of workers was 150 rubles. In 2012, the cost of a 24-day stay in the cheapest motels around 1 thousand. Dollars at an average salary of $ 300. This "catch up" Tsarist Russia, where the cost of one month of treatment and accommodation was from 150 to 300 rubles. at a salary of highly qualified workers 30 rubles. The social composition of holidaymakers in the Crimea in tsarist times, consisted only of representatives of the ruling class, so in 1915 - the total number of tourists in 1399 people. there was not a worker or peasant. The first resort for the poor was opened in 1901 with 12 seats, but to get there it was necessary to permit the police. There were treated the clergy, were few merchants, wealthy farmers and 2 workers (1910-1912). A total of 3 resort opened for the poor with 45 seats. In the Soviet period in the 1980s, 55% of holidaymakers were workers and farmers, engineers, and 35% of employees, 10% - pensioners, students and other categories of citizens.

And again, all the comments from the mat to remove, spare us, Soviet-educated women !!! We're not used to the mat !!!

Seven Crimean athletes get official right to compete for Russian national team

Money compensation was a condition for an early transfer of athletes to the Russian national team

MOSCOW, June 4./TASS/. The Russian and Ukrainian athletics federations have signed an agreement under which seven Crimean athletes, including European champion Vera Rebrik, have got the right to compete for the Russian national team, acting president of the Russian Athletics Federation Vadim Zelichenok told TASS on Thursday.

The agreement enables the athletes to compete for Russia before the quarantine deadline under the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations expires.

The most titled among the athletes is 2012 javelin European champion Vera Rebrik, who got the Russian citizenship in May 2014. The full list of the athletes will be made public shortly.

"We signed an agreement on the transfer of Crimean athletes with the president of the Ukrainian federation. We have only purely technical formalities to settle," Zelichenok said. All remaining matters are to be settled on Friday, after a final meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian athletics federations.

Money compensation was a condition for an early transfer of athletes to the Russian national team. Zelichenok did not mention the sum paid by the federation, but the Ukrainian side asked for $170,000. Half of the sum was paid early in April.

Ukraina will increase price of electricity by 14% from july. Did Russia started with builiding powerplants in Crimea or connecting lines with mainland?

This year they will finish 300 MW solar power plants and they already have around 200 MW solar power plants from Janukovich times. If they build also some wind power plants, Crimea could fill half of their needs with clean renewable energy.

As someone that's living in a place where we are also moving to renewable energy, i can tell you that it's an insanely expensive endeavor, although unlike us (who'll get stuck in debt) Russia can use this to build up it's own renewable energy industry, nevertheless still expensive, so no rush guys. Of course you could not go for 100% supply from solar and wind power plants as they are dependent on weather, but could combine with micro hydro power plants on Crimean rivers as they don't need dams and could provide stable supply from renewable energy.
