Russia's GDP grew 2.3% in 2018.

And that's without debt leverage, which is massively practiced in the US and EU. Without the crazy debt binge, the West would be in recession.

Russia’s growth rate accelerated from 1.6 percent in 2017 and exceeded the economy ministry’s prediction of 1.8 percent as well as the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 1.7 percent.

The country’s economy only returned to growth in 2017 after two years of recession in 2015 and 2016.

Russia’s Rosstat statistics agency said that GDP last year was 103.6 trillion rubles ($1.578 trillion, €1.38 trillion), with growth in sectors such as hotels and restaurants boosted by hosting the World Cup.

The economy ministry had initially predicted 2.1 percent growth before revising this down to 1.8 percent, taking into account the impact of U.S. sanctions on the ruble.

Strong growth in the construction sector of 5.3 percent was one of the factors that pushed the year’s figures higher than expected.

This was due to large construction projects such as oil and gas facilities and Novatek’s new liquefied natural gas plant in the north of #Siberia, the economy ministry said.

Novatek is one of Russia’s largest natural gas producers.

Tula. February 8th. INTERFAX-AVN - Russia's defense industry can, within the framework of national projects, produce civilian products worth more than 2 trillion rubles in the next 5 years, said Konstantin Tarabrin, director of the department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, at a meeting with heads of defense companies and the regional government in Tula on Friday. 

       “Our task is to understand what the need is for technologies, equipment, and production solutions, in order to propose for implementation of national projects the developments that exist in the defense-industrial complex. The preliminary figures for 2019-2024 are about 2, 2 trillion rubles, for this amount the defense industry complex may participate in national projects, but it is not yet final and will be adjusted, ”said K. Tarabrin.

       He recalled that in total in Russia within 5 years it is planned to implement national projects in 12 areas for a total amount of about 26 trillion rubles. 

       According to him, the most demanded civilian products of defense enterprises can be in such national projects as Digital Economy, Education, Healthcare, Modernization and expansion of trunk infrastructure, Modernization of highways, Science, Housing and urban environment. " 

       "This could be medical equipment, equipment for schools, universities, educational centers. The Ministry implies state purchases under federal legislation in the format of intergovernmental transfers at the level of regions, municipalities,

       He also noted that in order to diversify the defense industry, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia proposes the removal of restrictions on the number of products supplied by a single supplier; use of dividends to finance investment projects related to technical re-equipment and production of high-tech civilian and dual-use products; participation of state-owned companies in the purchase of OPK products; expansion of protectionism measures against Russian producers in public procurement. 

       Earlier it was reported that in Russia by 2025 it is planned to increase the share of civil products of defense companies to 30% of the total production at these enterprises, and by 2030 - to 50%.

Putin wants Russia economy to be based on..
1) Commodities  (Oil ,mining, food exports)
2) Weapons
3)Sports tourism.

This is not saying that Putin need to ban tourism or ban energy business.

Moody's upgraded Russia's sovereign rating

MOSCOW, February 9 - RIA News. The rating agency Moody's upgraded Russia's sovereign rating to investment "Baa3" from speculative "Ba1", the outlook is stable. Now Russia has an investment rating from all three leading international rating agencies.
"The increase in Russia's rating reflects the positive impact of measures introduced in recent years and aimed at strengthening Russia's already reliable state finances and external indicators and reducing the country's vulnerability to external influence, including recent sanctions," the agency’s release said.
Earlier, Fitch, an international rating agency, maintained Russia's rating at BBB- with a positive outlook. S & P confirmed Russia's investment rating at BBB-, with a stable outlook.

If US banned Russia entirely on world market (which they cannot), they will find that a lot will not want to work with US and well, prices on US aircrafts will all of a sudden skyrocket with Titanium prices going through the roof. In which case, Russia could make a killing selling it to third parties and or through black market.
