Tigers to return to Deir Ezzor and focus on moving south.

    https://muraselon.com/en/2017/09/exclusive-elite-syrian-legion-resume-operations-deir-ezzor/

As for the the 4th Division operations across the Euphrates, had seen those too but am dubious as they are engaged in East Ghouta and the Central mountain operations. Will have to wait and see.

I doubt the SDF forces operating that much south are Kurdish. And both SAA and Russia know that going after SDF, when FSA is a threat in Hama and IS (having a free pass east of Euphrates) is still a major threat, would be unwise and catastrophic.

SDF can be dealt with later, possibly even diplomatically. Right now IS and FSA beardies come first.

I wouldn't be so fast in taking twitter mappers that seriously (that soon).
A deep IS infiltration / suicide mission is not necessarily ground lost. In the fashion such a map claims.

I think that this is the final big counterattack of IS in central Syria. And one of the lost counterattacks of this scale overall.

SDF going for the oil fields East of Euphrates was/is the bait SAA didn't take. Had they crossed and pushed East, these IS elements would have isolated them and lead to a bigger blunder than Palmyra was last year.

I think that at this point the SAA/Russia underestimated the strength of IS by sending some of the best SAA units to fight the already defeated islamist rebels in Hama, well at least close to defeat. Also the IS assault could just have not come at a better time for the sdf. With IS virtually focusing all of its effort on fighting the SAA, the kurds will have no difficulty in securing those oil fields east of the river. On the other hand the SAA realising that they can't do much about it now are probably going to focus on securing the strip of land west of the Euphrates. I read that Mayadin is the next big target.

Any way you look at it, there is coordination. And by that SDF has secured a position in becoming an enemy to Syria.
SAA will play it safe and clear the Western side first, while maintaining their crossings and clusters of control East (Kawkab, Hasaka, Qamishli).

There's a lot of work to be done West. IS is now conducting terrorism ops all the way to Qaratayn with sleeper cells.

I agree. Confronting the sdf is not an option now and crossing the Euphrates is next to impossible so in the end the river will serve as a border between the Syrians and sdf in Eastern Syria, as was rumoured before. Anyway at some point in the future the SAA will probably try to reclaim their territory. Interesting how the kurds are getting shipments of weaponry now when IS is so close to defeat. This can only mean one thing. They are being prepared to guard those oil fields. In which case the SAA should wait until they have been dried clean and cross the river then Smile Or perhaps this is part of a bigger kurdish project and the oil is just for covering the costs of war.

Lol they're throwing the kitchen sink at the SAA. Seems their masters want those oil fields at all cost.

More like they underestimated the level of coordination that this group has with intelligence services - that is Saudi/Mossad/CIA.

The U.S has done worse so.....given the proper perspective this is child's play compared to what they did in Vietnam or Korea by dropping bombs for example.....

This is suicide attack by IS. They are trying to slow down SAA advance on Euphrates. SAA will try to advance on other fronts. We will see what will hapend now. Possible fast colapse of IS on main fronts.

This is nothing they just need to make a call and ask their command if a checkpoint was set up there, SAA should be keeping track of where they set up checkpoints I'd be shocked if they lose even 40 guys to such a simple trick.

It's nothing shocking or unexpected. SAA at this stage is doing very well, these occurrences are part of fighting a war. There have been larger and stronger conventional formations getting enemies on their rear (US forces in Korea, Marine divisions no less). Or if you prefer recently, Fallujah falling to what is now known as IS, twice.

Lets not pretend SAA is doing bad, they're doing extremely well.

    #Raqqa | 300 Syrian soldiers surrender to #SDF
    https://anfenglish.com/rojava/300-syrian-soldiers-surrender-to-sdf-22453 …

    ANF TABQA Sunday, 1 Oct 2017, 12:13

Speaking at the funeral ceremony for two fallen fighters in Tabqa, SDF field commander Umid Gabar said that 300 Syrian soldiers surrendered themselves to SDF forces recently.

Gabar denied Syrian claims that the authority in Tabqa will be transferred to Syrian regime and said “Our people should know, since 5 years that we founded YPG, and after SDF was formed we never gave a piece of our land to anybody. This land with our martyr’s blood on it is our people’s and we will never hand it over to any power.”

Gabar said recently a group of 300 Syrian soldiers surrendered themselves to SDF forces but didn’t give any details regarding the incident.

Tabqa was liberated from ISIS last year. The city has a strategic importance because of hosting the biggest hydroelectric power plant and one of the biggest military airbase in Syria.

Believe this was the ISIS attack on the tribal forces a month ago in which the Tigers trapped 800 ISIS along the Euphrates. There was 300 tribal & SAA  missing at first and most came back from the SDF side where they had retreated to.

And this war isn't going to be over for a long time after ISIS is "destroyed". Hopefully deals can be worked out but we all know there are parties in the background that doesn't want peace.
