Iranian AK-133 and KL-133 assault rifles
June 12th, 4:30 pm
Last year, there was one good English-language article on the Silah report about this, but since the latter is not working now, I will write here.
Few of us paid attention to this, but in recent years Iran has been producing two AK-103-shaped assault rifles, which are produced at different factories and have completely different origins.
The first of them, which is called AK-133, is apparently a licensed copy of the AK-103, since the start of its production was announced in 2017 shortly after Iran officially announced the purchase of the first batches of AK from us in Russia -103 in 2016. But the second machine, which has the name KL-133, is a modernized version of Iranian copies of the Type 56, and if you believe the information that goes around Iranian military forums and telegram channels, initially there with the help of some kind of Chinese manufacturer, it was the KL-133 assault rifle that was put into production, but after comparing with the original Russian AK-103, the military insisted on purchasing the latter and organizing their licensed production in Iran.
KL-133s are produced by Shahid Hossein Hamedani Armament Industries (or Shahid Hamedani Industries for short), and AK-133s by Shahid Karimi Industries, according to Iranian military telegram channels like Iranian Militarism.
