Rather big setback for the Syrian military: https://lenta.ru/news/2016/05/05/isis_gas/

ISIS captured a major oilfield and kills more than 30 Syrian soldiers.

i like this, its a pretty good effort, and M46 is a great gun, i still think this would have been much better gun to use on the 2S1 than the 122mm originally used.

Gvozdika had other requirements like being amphibious, capable of moving in swamp and same caliber as main batallion lvl artillery piece which was D30. M46 is huge, it would look silly on Gvozdika platform. What you are describing atm, was filled later with 2S3 Akatsiya till MSTA-S came into service.

I really don't like what Russia is doing in Syria lately.
Doing a concert in Palmyra while Syrians are killed by Alqaeda just few dozens
km away of their positions? and hospitals controlled by Government bombed in Aleppo?
It seems like a slap in the face of Syrian citizens. It shows Putin's disconnection or maybe
it is really bad advisors on the war in Syria. Because is sending the wrong message.

Imagine that Russia Leningrad was under siege and millions starving and stalin
ask for a musical concert in moscow to celebrate the liberation of another useless town
    of Russia?

If Syrians could speak to Putin will tell him they dont want Russian music ,but its Army and Airforce to get rid of the terrorist killing them.

That concet was PR victory. Russians helped more than US "helped" Iraqies already:) Now Russia can bring Ivanushki International to Palmira or have Comedy Club shows there and Syrians would just accept that. Don't bite the hand that punches Your enemies

Thats the point Regular.  [u] There is no victory yet [.n] in Syria.

All that Russian army did was hold ISIS advance and liberate some zones from Latakia and
Aleppo and thats it. Mission accomplished?  Celebrating a musical concert in Palmyra
of "victory "while civilians die in the hundreds just an hour or two from there?  No

while agreeing a cease of fire with Americans , that allows Alqaeda to bomb Aleppo is
an Insult to Syrians . Since the stupid cease of fire began hundreds of civilians killed .
WHen Lavrov says the cease of fire is "holding" is a blatant lie. Aleppo is being attacked
    every day.

LAvrov later complain , that oh no Americans "cannot control their moderates" and force
them to distance from Alqaeda.. Then what?  What is Russia going to do if Americans
sponsored moderates do not distance from Alqaeda? why not just ...... BOMB the Hell of THEM!!!!!!! Americans have no right to arm mercenaries in Syria to fight the Government.
thats what Russia needs to do ,bomb terrorist and show the middle finger to Obama

Hopefully Russia have a major strategy , that im not aware .
And their policy is not as idiotic and shameful as its looks. The only reason i can see for Russia
halting the attack on Aleppo is if for example Rebels wired with chemical weapons or bomb the houses of civilians in the whole City and invading will mean hundreds of thousands civilians killed. Or maybe  they expect Turkey army to invade and they don't want to be caught in the wrong place when that happens. to counter the invasion.

in any case. the musical concert of "victory" or to "honor people killed"  while at the same time ,the war continues and more killed .  Neutral    ,have absolutely no excuse to happen. it was a major insult to Syrian . Syrians dont want their fallen soldiers or civilians to being honored with music. they want the terrorist killed .and only after Syria secure ,celebrations and music can start.

Im not sure anymore about Russia policy in Syria ,or their strategy. But that it looks very weak ,
and shameful there is no doubt. and the musical concert was really bad idea. It sends a bad message to Syrians that Russia cares very little about Syrians in Aleppo dying every day . And that Russia is just satisfied with the way things are already. Who ever advice putin over Syria needs to be fired.

I agree with vann. I don't get the point of the musical concert, it seems random as heck, but it was a great concert with great music. All war no play makes Johnny go crazy. With Russians in Palmyra, IS don't dare attack that place. Just like Ukrainian soldiers, who talk big act big, IS only dare to bully SAA, they don't dare shoot a single bullet at Russian soldiers cheers

Turkish illegal immigrants pour into Latakia and massacre Syrians for lebensraum. Russia refuses to help SAA take the border between Latakia and Turkey.

    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/turkmen-jihadists-enter-latakia-turkey-video/

What SAA need to do is move along the border with Turkey and seal the border. This was Ukraine's strategy in Donbas. Turkey is tough, but Turkey is no Russia. Turkey don't dare attack SAA openly. Sealing the Turkish border will draw Turkish illegals out into the open and force them to concentrate in a tiny area where they can be dealt with in the most efficient manner. As long as the border with Turkey is not sealed, more and more Turkish illegals pour in, and the numbers game is to their advantage since Turkey has 80 million people compared to Syria's 10 million.

Post  Solncepek Sun May 08, 2016 2:19 pm

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced today that 13 military advisors were killed, 21 others wounded in Syria, most of them at Aleppo battlefields; thus raising the number of Iranians killed while fighting radical militants in Syria to 247.

Iran has been militarily and financially supporting the Government of Bashar Assad since the outbreak of uprising in March 2011.

In April, Iran officially declared it was sending troops from the highly-trained 65th Brigade in an “advisory mission” to Syria; most of them have been deployed to Aleppo’s southern countryside.

On May 5th, Jihadi fighter stormed the government-held town of Khan Tuman, killing scores of government troops and Iranian fighters.
