The reason I remember reading for the reduction in the number of guns was to reduce weight and size of the turret so it could be carried on aircraft.

Of course keep in mind that the overall weight of the platform with one gun might be the same as with two guns because the space saved with the dual auto feed and autoloading system could have been replaced with more ready to fire ammo... however unlike a twin gun setup where removing the second gun to reduce weight is not practical on a single barrel version not loading it with ammo can greatly reduce weight... or indeed allow the weight to be better spread.

Say the twin barrel Coalition weighs 58 tons without ammo and 62.8 tons with a load of ammo (40kgs for the projectile and say 40kgs of propellent for 80kgs per round and say 60 rounds of ready to fire ammo and propellant charges... 4.8 tons).\

that means unloaded an Il-476 could carry an empty vehicle, but not a vehicle loaded with ammo.

With a single gun version it might be a 54 ton vehicle minus the barrel and recoil mechanism and the dual feed motorised loading system, so with, say 90 rounds of ready to fire ammo that would mean 7.2 tons of ammo, which means a 61.2 ton load... only carry 70 rounds on pallets in front of the vehicle to balance the load out and you have 5.6 tons of ammo so you are under the 60 ton capacity for the aircraft... and have more flexibility in terms of balancing the load on the aircraft.

On the naval model they might save weight with a single barrel model, but weight is really not so important on a ship... but then rate of fire is not that super critical either.

given the choice of two twin barrel guns or two single barrel guns I suspect they would go for twin barrel guns. They are unmanned weapons so it wont have a huge effect on crew size but the extra barrels would mean with the right propellant charge and the correct angle of fire at a high rate of fire could result in a much larger number of shells landing on target at once... greatly increasing their effect on target.

Note that bit at the end of the last video posted showing two liquid sprays into a large tube... liquid propellant!!!

    Very interesting.

Also the gun itself firing it has a sleeve near the gun mantle that does not move which suggests a hugely modified recoil mechanism... you would assume that was necessary as the auto loading system could not be designed to recoil with the gun and is likely attached to the fixed portion of the gun attached to the turret front while the gun itself likely recoils back with the breach block and as the barrel returns to its forward position a fresh round is loaded in the now open chamber and the chamber is closed... should allow for a fairly high rate of fire...

One would expect a dual feed system to allow the gunner to change ammo types quickly.

It was pointed out in the video that the spray inside the barrel is possibly one of the mechanisms for cooling the barrel between shots so that a high fire rate (above 10 rpm) can be maintained.

The ship in the grouping of the 11 vessels covers departures combat aircraft of the Russian aviation. On board members of the media treated ourselves pasta nautically and understand why a ship called the "sea fortress." In the arsenal of "Moscow" are 64 missiles "Fort" vertical takeoff P-300. Powerful radars cruisers do not stop for a minute. Vehicle systems record all air targets within a radius of 400 kilometers and can destroy them at a distance of 70 kilometers. Protecting the coastline and our aviation - his main task.

The correspondents also showed shock-missile systems "Basalt", which can be equipped with nuclear warheads. "Basalt" is designed to destroy surface targets at a distance of 300 kilometers. Yes they mentioned it was a secret technology how to cool the gun to maintain accuracy and rpm nothing to do with liquid propellant. Liquid propellant would certainly not be handled like that.

Apparently we are seeing the microwave initiated gun propellant here. Is that what he is talking about?

Yes, they have made an electromagnetic generator Electro magnetron to initiate the propellant at once and not the inproportionate chemical process that takes place from the inner initiator/detonator that sets of the propellant from within and moves than forward and outward. That would mean the propellant is quicker initiated and therefore more effeciently by using more of the propellant to accelerate the projectile before it leaves the barrel.

I wonder if the gain makes a 125 mm size tank cannon perform like more like a 152 mm cannon in terms of energy of the shell.
Of course the size of the shell matters, a 125 mm shell is not going to perform like a 152 mm shell, but its initial velocity is
    important also.

How to Start a Car With an AK-47

Iraqi troops found an unusual purpose to use AK-47 rifles for.
