^ Haha...yes, me too felt he was just looking the other way when the camera focused... Probably Russian advisers or those engaged with calling in airstrikes are embedded in every offensive units?

Reports that Sheikh Miskin has been captured by the SAA. I don't have any links to sources but if this is true then the news should start popping up quite soon.

Syrian Forces Gain Control Over Major Terrorist Stronghold in Daraa
Syrian government forces have established control over the central square in the town of Sheikh Miskin, near the al-Omari Mosque in the province of Daraa, Syrian command reported.
http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20151230/1032506542/syrian-army-daraa.html
“The army established control over the central part of Sheikh Miskin in the suburbs of Daraa. The main square and the area around the al-Omari Mosque have been liberated," according to the report.
A military source told RIA Novosti that the offensive began after the terrorist supply routes were cut off.
According to the source, in the course of several hours 11 militants were killed, including four commanders of the militant groups operating in Sheikh Miskin.
On Tuesday, Syrian command confirmed they had established control over the 82nd brigade camp, near the al-Hosh height, 22 km from the terrorists’ main stronghold in the province of Daraa.
Syria has been engulfed in an armed conflict since March 2011. The Syrian Army has been fighting various terrorist groups, including Daesh (Islamic State) and the al-Nusra Front. Currently, backed by Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Army is advancing against the terrorists in many parts of the country.

Its a good catch in every sense...if there wasnt any pic or video of this guys, the western Jihadi media would have painted him as a very innocent under-aged momma's boy whose only 'crime' was to tore off President Assad's poster from the walls.

Do you really want to sink to that level? Even Stalinist USSR did not kill German POWs.
Beheading captured militants would mean that SAA is really no better than the guys they fight... and would guarantee more stiff resistance in the future. Swapping them for SAA prisoners is better and more civilized way to do stuff.

He needs to undergo thorough interrogation. Where is he from? How did he get to Syria? WHo helped him? Who travelled with him? Where was he trained? When? Who by? Who else was trained with him? Where were the weapons cached? How much was he paid? Where are the rest of his team of thugs? What tarrgets did he hit? Etc, etc. All the info needs to be verified or otherwise checked. In the end he will probably be too scared to go back, but ....

Was "Rami TOW" a terrorist (someone who killed civilians) or just a guy who did combat?

As you already know the definition of a "terrorist" is not "someone who killed civilians".

FWIW Chinese involvement in Syria?
There is an article suggesting China will supply up to 5000 special forces to Syria. There have been reports of Chinese involvement before, so the article may be bs. However, this one goes into some detail, specifying unit names, budgetary figures, and the presence of Chinese military hardware in the field. It also refers to recent meetings (December 24) between Chinese diplomats and the Syrian government. The political impetus seems to be preservation of the so-called 'Silk Road' trade routes.

Mmmm, perhaps the Chinese have decided that that they were getting seriously left behind on the 'realistic' training front and its about time some of its forces got some experience of proper fighting. Especially as the risk of joining a losing side looks pretty low, so no likelihood of losing face. It would also seriously piss off the US.short_fuze wrote:There is an article suggesting China will supply up to 5000 special forces to Syria. Also, they have some gear that needs some new, more realistic sales demonstration videos if they are to keep up with their competitors.
Either way, very good and understandable decisions.
On the 'its just training' subject, I wonder if the injuries/deaths Russia is suffering in Syria is lower or higher than they would be suffering if this was a 'normal' training exercise.
