There are rare points of actual operations (like Iraqi air force bombing a few km inside Syria) and coordinating Russian Air Force overflights... beyond that its remit is opaque.

Iraqi 35th Brigade is rearmed from M1A1M Abrams tanks to Russian tanks T-90S

As the Ministry of Defense of Iraq reported on June 5, 2018, the 35th Brigade of the 9th Armored Division of the Iraqi Army is rearmed from the American M1A1M Abrams tanks to the T-90S tanks received from Russia. To date, the 35th Brigade has received 39 T-90S / SK tanks delivered from Russia, which are distributed between the two tank regiments (3rd and 4th) of the brigade. It is stated that the officers and rank and file of the 35th brigade were trained for T-90S tanks with the participation of Russian instructors. In turn, the Abrams tanks remaining in the 35th brigade were transferred to the 34th Brigade of the same 9th Armored Division, which is now apparently the only brigade of the Iraqi army equipped with Abrams tanks (includes two tank regiments - the 1st and 2nd).

the structure of the 9th division is now:

34th Bde - M1A1
35th Bde - T90-SI
36th Bde - M1A1
37th Bde - for now BMP-1s but I think this is earmarked for BMP-3M

The first shipment of BMP-3 was delivered to Iraq

The photographs from Iraq show that the first batch of infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3 of Russian production for the land forces of Iraq was finally delivered to this country.



On the bmpd side, we point out that the contract for Iraq's acquisition of BMP-3 was signed as early as 2014, but its implementation was delayed due to various problems. According to some sources, up to 500 BMP-3 should be delivered to Iraq. Previously, erroneous reports of Iraq getting the first shipment of infantry fighting vehicles appeared in February 2018.

As reported by Jane's Defense Weekly magazine in an article by Mohammed Najib, "IQDEX-2019, the Iraqi company Samar Alkhair, which is part of the newly created united state defense industry company Iraqi State Military Industries Company, presented a sample of a light armored vehicle Hajjam 1 with a 4x4 wheel formula,



Armored car Hajjam 1 is made on the chassis of the off-road car Toyota Land Cruiser and is equipped with a 4.5-liter turbo diesel engine Toyota V8 with a capacity of 232 hp, connected to an automatic transmission. The car has a length of 4.7 m, a width of 1.8 m, a height of 2.1 m and declared protection level B6 armor (protection against the bullets of a Kalashnikov assault rifle of 7.62 × 39 mm from a distance of 10 m).

Iraqi State Military Industries Company Chief Engineer Hussein told Jane's that the machine was designed in accordance with the requirements of the Iraqi ministries of defense and interior and is offered in various versions.

Iraqi Army receives new batch of Russian T-90 tanks

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:50 P.M.) – The Iraqi Armed Forces have reportedly received a new batch of T-90 tanks from the Russian military, Iraqi News reported on Wednesday.

Citing the commander of the 9th Armored Division’s commander Major General Walid Khalifa’s interview with the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) on Tuesday, Iraqi News reported that the Iraqi Ministry of Defense received their fourth batch of Russian-made T-90 tanks.

The Iraqi military will begin using the tanks once they complete training, the Iraqi News report added.

Iraq first agreed to receive the T-90 tank in 2017 after seeing the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) success on the battlefield.

Speaking to Sputnik, Russian military expert Viktor Murakhovsky recalled that “the conditions of Iraq and Syria are desert and semi-desert areas and a long range of open spaces.”

“The T-90 is already successfully using guided missiles launched through the barrel; in this regard, a high-precision missile with a range of up to five kilometers can be described as a sort of [the T-90’s] ‘high-precision hand’,” Murakhovsky said.

The Iraqi Armed Forces now have a have a large number of battle ready T-90 tanks in their arsenal.

There's been so many articles on Iraq looking to buy s-400, s-300, buk-m3, tor-m2 it's actually confusing as to what they actually want because Iraq doesn't have massive budget but there was talk of Russia giving credit for purchases. What people's views on what likely to be bought if any.

In 2014, Iraq received Russian modern air defense systems. Among the incoming weapons were the Panzir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems acquired in Russia, Igla-S MANPADS with the 1PN97M "Mowgli-2M" thermal imaging sight and Dzhigit support and launchers.
