Russia will supply Nicaragua six missile and patrol boats

SAINT-PETERSBURG, July 4. (ARMS-TASS). Russian shipyards will put two in Nicaragua and four missile patrol boats. This was announced by Deputy Director General of Fair-Nevsky Shipyard Alexander Vlasov at the 6th International Naval Show in St. Petersburg.
"To date, the management of our factory is the reference of" Rosoboronexport "for the delivery of two Project 12418 missile boats (code" Lightning ") for Nicaragua, we determined the solution Minpromtorga executors of this contract," - he said.
In addition, he said, from this country and there is an application for "Mirage" - Coast Guard patrol boats. Executor of this part of the order is Rybinsk Shipyard "Vympel". It is about four "Mirage", said deputy director of the Mid-Nevsky Shipyard.
Vlasov said that in 2011 the company has successfully completed a contract for the construction of two missile boats "Lightning" for the Navy of Turkmenistan, which are operated in the Caspian Sea.

Can Nicaragua foot the bill for such ships ? I suspect Russia will have to provide them a grant of sorts .

So there is a customer for the "White Eagle" (T-72B1) after all....capability wise it's a decent upgrade with all sorts of gadgets added.

At the time it was unveiled in 2012 it was suppose to have a French automatic transmission, I wonder whether that still applies...

The T-72B1 has a panoramic sight with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) for commander position and a gunner sight with 2nd generation thermal imager from Russia, and auto-tracking system from Russia in its fire control system.

Even Russians have no tank with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) for commander position in service(Although T-90MS and Armata do have 3rd generation thermal imager).
Even Chinese have no tank with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) for commander position in service.
Even Indians have no tank with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) for commander position in service.
Even the whole Latin American contries have no tank with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) for commander position in service.
Even Chileans' Leopard2A4's fire control system cannot be compared with the one on T-72B1.

Nicaraguans must have a very good taste, or they are just cheated by Russians because a panoramic sight with Catherine XP Thermal Imager(3rd generation) is definitely a overkill in central America. A panoramic sight with Catherine FC Thermal Imager(2nd generation) like the one on Indians' T-90S is enough...

Anyway, congratulations to Russians and Nicaraguans. When I saw T-72B1 I thought Russians must be mad(again), why they put such an advanced sighting system and fire control system on an T-72B, which made the sighting systems and fire control systems  on T-72B2 and T-72B3 look like a shit, and who would buy such an unbalanced T-72B1 tank. So surprised that somebody buys this monster finally...

The Catherine FC thermal sight is very well regarded... I chatted with a guy from the UK who said he had had some field experience with the older Catherine FC and he said you could see clearly out to about 6-8km on a good day/night.

The Catherine XP has better resolution and longer effective range and is smaller and lighter and uses less power...


Using QWIP technology as production increases their costs should go down fairly dramatically and potential for significant performance increases is there too.

IMO the upgrade looks unbalanced. True, the FCS is top notch, but vehicle still mounts Kontakt-1 ERA, first introduced in 1985. In the demonstration vehicle there are no engines to transmission or engine. Let's see what the final configuration has.

That's the designation of the panoramic camera for commander. The gunner uses Sosna-U FCS.

Russia has started to fulfill a contract for the supply of T-72B1 tanks to the Armed Forces of Nicaragua. The first batch of 20 tanks has already been shipped. The total order of Russian military equipment by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's government equals 50 units at a cost of $80 million.

According to documents that have been published on the website of Russia's state procurement agency, the first batch of tanks features the relatively rare White Eagle modification equipped with an around the clock gunner's sight and the Hawkeye commander's panoramic around the clock sight equipped with a modern thermal imaging camera.
