Re: Infantry Mobility Vehicles
During the visit to the plant, the Deputy Minister of Defense discussed with the company's management the progress of the state defense order and the execution of state contracts, as well as the work carried out at the enterprise in the areas of import substitution of foreign components and the production of armored vehicles of a new model range.
The medical armored vehicle "Lens" is designed to search, collect and remove the wounded from the battlefield and from the centers of mass sanitary losses. As a base vehicle, an armored vehicle with a 4x4 wheel formula of the Typhoon family is used. The curb weight of the vehicle is more than 15 tons, its reservation provides protection for the crew and the transported wounded from armor-piercing bullets from a 7.62 by 54 rifle cartridge, as well as shrapnel.
Also this year, the Russian troops will receive the first batch of 11 new armored escort vehicles "Partner". According to the chief designer of "Remdiesel" Igor Zarakhovich, the car "Partner" is created on the basis of the armored car K-4386 "Typhoon-Airborne". The " Partner "is a more modern and more secure vehicle in terms of convoy escort," he said.
At the same time, as representatives of the company told the deputy minister, today Russian armored vehicles are 70 percent produced from Russian components. According to Vladimir Kuimov, the company is in the process of import substitution in accordance with the previously signed import substitution program of the Ministry of Defense. From 2021, they will begin to receive domestic wheels with a combat-resistant insert, the chief designer of Remdiesel, Igor Zarakhovich, also reported. "New wheels" Kama-NU-401 " are designed for all our cars, they are produced in Nizhnekamsk. Now they are in the process of state tests. After the completion of the state tests, we will begin to complete our cars with these wheels, " Zarakhovich said.
"I really hope that from next year only Russian wheels will be used in our cars. Maybe this year some cars will be used with Russian wheels,"he said. The chief designer said that the new Russian wheels have " a combat-resistant rubber insert that allows you to continue driving when they break through." "This is a full-fledged analogue of the tires that we buy abroad," he added.
As for the upgraded multi-purpose light armored tractor (MT-LB) with a new engine and air conditioning, its state tests will begin in 2021, said Alexey Krivoruchko, chief designer of JSC Remdiesel. "We are carrying out the development work "Reconstruction", which will allow the old MT-LB, accepted for major repairs, to upgrade to a new level - to replace the engine, put the air conditioner, change the electrics, put an additional heater, " he explained.
According to him, now there is one experimental car created within the framework of the "Reconstruction" program. "The prototype MT-LB is undergoing preliminary tests, I very much hope that we will complete them this year, and next year we will go to state tests," the chief designer said. Zarakhovich added that the production of MT-LB from scratch, which was developed in the 60s of the last century, is now impossible. "Not all MT-LB components can now be mastered in production. But given the number of these vehicles in the troops, the overhaul will extend their operation for at least another 10 years, " he said.
During the trip, the deputy head of the military Department of the Russian Federation also reported that Remdiesel has prepared for state tests a new armored mining vehicle "Tick" on the basis of the armored car "Typhoon-airborne", and serial deliveries to the Airborne Troops of the armored vehicles "Typhoon-airborne" will begin in July this year.
"Typhoon-airborne" has completed the state tests, receives the letter "O1". Next month, serial deliveries of these machines will begin, "said Igor Zarakhovich, chief designer of Remdiesel.
For reference:
Remdiesel produces equipment for use in the Armed Forces, mainly armored vehicles of the Typhoon line of different classes and different wheel formulas. The volume of state defense orders at the enterprise is 93%. On average, the plant produces about 300 armored vehicles a year, and in 2020 Remdiesel produced 250 vehicles for the needs of the Ministry of Defense.

A 30-mm remote-controlled combat module created based on the Spitsa (Spoke) experimental design work. The armament consists of a 30-mm 2A42 cannon and a 7.62-mm 6P7K machine gun, as well as a 30-mm AG-30 automatic grenade launcher.
There is a 57mm gun turret that is marinised... I wonder if this is the same, so it could be mounted on patrol and river boats...

According to the web resource Drom.ru, at the seventh International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2021" taking place in Kubinka from August 22 to 28, 2021, Military Industrial Company LLC (VPK LLC, part of the GAZ Group) presented a new off-road unarmored 4x4 vehicle called the Strela military-industrial complex. This machine is intended to replace the honored veteran in the army and the national economy - the classic UAZ-469, produced with modernizations since 1972, that is, for almost 50 years.
A prototype of an off-road unarmored VPK "Strela" with a 4x4 wheel arrangement developed by "Military Industrial Company" LLC (c) drom.ru
"Strela" was developed jointly by the Military-Industrial Company and the Design Bureau of Youth (KBM) working at Baumank. The novelty is a full-size frame SUV, broadly unified with the Sable NN 4x4.
The spars of the supporting frame from Strela are original, but almost everything else is borrowed. The engine is a 2.8-liter 149-horsepower Cummins ISF turbodiesel, the gearbox is a 6-speed manual GAZ. The engine is familiar from "Next GAZelles", and the gearbox - from "GAZelle NN".
The universal body "Strela" is made on the basis of the "GAZelle Next" cab. The black plastic cap at the back is removable.
The front suspension is independent, the rear is dependent. Full drive, part time type, with rigid connection of the front axle.
The curb weight of the SUV is 2700 kg, the gross weight is 3500 kg (i.e. the car falls under the driver's category B).
The civilian "Arrow" complements the armored car and amphibian of the same name , presented in 2020. All of this family was created as part of the Strela development work, which is funded by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Wide unification with "GAZelles" and "Sobols" is not only a reduction in the cost of the car, but also simplification of its operation, because gas LCVs are produced in large quantities and spare parts for them are always available.
In the future, 5-10 years unarmored "Strela" will replace the UAZ-469 in the army. With the help of this machine, the military-industrial complex expects to increase the share of civilian products in the structure of its business. Recall that at the end of 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin set a task for defense enterprises to accelerate conversion, that is, adaptation to civilian consumers of defense products.

Re: Infantry Mobility Vehicles
Which one is this?
Plus it's already in serial production apparently, nice to see armor proliferating to everything
Massive change since the bad old days
Yes, armor doesn't protect from everything but just the fact that higher-ups care enough to deliver it does wonders for morale

Bigger also means higher fuel needs. Most new russian vehicles are bigger than the ones they replace. They will need to increase oil storage and use more oil trucks.
Deployement abroad will also be impacted. Bigger and taller vehicles take more space. So they will also need more planes/ships.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has placed an order for a batch of "Tiger-M" vehicles designed in the style of "Mad Max" with enhanced protection for convoy security.
The vehicles were showcased at the "Army-2023" forum.
The new modification includes additional protection in the form of attached armored plates.

Re: Infantry Mobility Vehicles
Ruselectronics Holding (part of Rostec State Corporation) announced on August 17 that the Listva remote demining vehicle (MDR) could be equipped with a more powerful microwave gun for the most effective destruction of modern mines with semiconductor electronic elements.
"Modernization of the microwave installation will increase the power flux density of the radiated signal to about 10 W / cm2 at a distance of 50-80 m, "representatives of the holding company told the TASS news agency at the Army-2023 forum.
As specified in" Roselektronika", the modernization will increase the likelihood of critical damage and failure of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) containing semiconductor electronic elements.
Currently, the issue of switching to a gearless drive of the support and rotary device of the microwave installation is under consideration to improve the accuracy of positioning the radiating antenna in azimuth.
In addition, Listva can get an automated video surveillance system.
Listva is designed to detect mine-explosive devices (IEDs) with metal elements, as well as destroy engineering ammunition and IEDs with electronic components.

Re: Infantry Mobility Vehicles
When I was in the forces there was talk of "are MBT still needed" this came about because the threats that were emerging. ATGW missile systems were getting more accurate, lethal, and longer range, as well as the dreaded appearance of proper attack Helicopters. Prior to this MBTs biggest threats were other MBT, aircraft and mines the latter was seen more as a mobility kill function that total destruction. Fast forward the years and the threat levels are far higher.
Armoured wheeled 4X4 back then only carried a 7.62mm machine, or if you were lucky a HMG .50cal even AGS systems were just a very new weapon (for the west) reserved for special forces. Now Russia has really upped the threat level. Normally tanks and IFV could ignore such a vehicle in the past knowing that it couldnt pose a threat. Suddenly now you have a small armoured wheeled 4X4 with the same weapon normally found on a IFV of the 90's/2000's (30mm) and ATGW (Kornet) no armour on the battlefield is safe. This seriously packs a punch. Yet haven't seen such a weapon set up in any western vehicle of the same type. This kinda reminds of the Buyan M Corvette a small boat capable of going up decent sized rivers, being able to be armed with Oniks anti ship missiles or Kalibr cruise missiles as well as a lethal AD system.
Although tanks have been fairly valuable in the Ukraine war, it's also shown us that the number of threats they gave these days has doubled. Who would have thought a couple of decades ago that a armoured 4x4 or a drone would be a threat for a MBT. We might find ourselves asking the same question that was asked a couple of decades ago "are MBTs still needed" ?

People asking that question since literally WW1. And the answer is still the same. YES. they are needed. Their role will be adapted as per situation. Tanks are still the only vehicle that have some probability to survive against ATGMs and other big munitions. There are enough videos of old T-64, 72s taking multiple hits and still rolling.

It costs more to protect a tank from ATGW weapons then it does to fire one at a tank. That was the argument back then. The battlefield has changed Drones weren't a threat, and I think tanks in the future if there is any will be robot driven. What this SMO has shown us no armoured vehicle is safe, even the latest MBT. And I sure wouldn't want to be in a tank these days.
