Failed launch of North Korean spy satellite

An attempt to launch in the DPRK on May 31, 2023, the first North Korean reconnaissance satellite Manrigyon No. 1 (Malligyong-1) using the new space launch vehicle Chollima-1 (Chollima-1) ended in failure. After the launch from the Sohae Cosmodrome, the Chollima-1 carrier rocket, after the separation of the first stage, experienced an abnormal operation of the second stage, and the rocket fell into the Yellow Sea 200 km off the west coast of South Korea. On this occasion, an air raid alert was declared in Seoul. Part of the rocket fragments was found and caught by the South Korean side of the vessel.

Second successful test of a North Korean solid-propellant ICBM

On July 12, the DPRK conducted the second successful test of its new Hwaseong-18 (Hwaseongpo-18) solid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile.
