Funny. And true. Sad when the North Koreans make more sense than Obama. North Korea is problematic, but I think they are willing to progress without interference from the west. But the west is simply interfering too much to destroy the country economically.

Early to mid 90's, before the major disaster in earthquake, North Korea was facing economic growth. After earthquake destroyed major agricultural production, it really set them back. It alsp destroyed electrical systems too.

Kim Jong Un is looking at alternative energy like windmill, solar and Natural gas as methods to improve its economy. Only thing I can say is, if I had any say, is try to get coal slurry technology from Russia (the tech is made in Novosibirsk) since NK is a massive coal producer. This coal can be used to turn coal into an oil like byproduct when mixed with water, and can be used to make petrol and composite materials. As well, coal slurry is far more efficient and clean when used for electricity production.

If they can fix their electrical issue and agricultural issue, then they can really snub USA

US: North Korea Has Nuclear Warheads for Intercontinental Missiles

United States intelligence believes North Korea has miniaturized a nuclear weapon and is capable of mounting it on an intercontinental missile, the head of the North American Aerospace Defense Command said.

The statement from Navy Admiral Bill Gortney during a Pentagon briefing Tuesday reflects an already widely held assumption that the insular country would look to develop the technology to place a nuclear warhead on the KN-08, a mobile intercontinental ballistic missile.

"Our assessment is that they have the ability to put a nuclear weapon on a KN-08 and shoot it at the homeland," Gortney said. "That is the way we think, and that's our assessment of the process.

"We haven't seen them test the KN-08 yet and we're waiting for them to do that, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they will fly it before they test it," he added.

North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests since 2006, none involving the KN-08. But even without seeing a test of a nuclear-capable KN-08, Gortney said it would be "prudent" to plan for the threat.

On Tuesday, Gortney said that if North Korea were to fire a missile at the US, “I am confident we can knock it down.”

That contrasts the testimony he gave during a congressional hearing last month, when he said that the KN-08’s mobility “will complicate our ability to provide warning and defense against an attack.”

Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, told Defense News that while it is possible to equip a KN-08 with a nuclear weapon, it is much more challenging to deliver it to the target.

"It's not that hard to shrink it down,” Lewis said, “but what happens is you start to encounter reliability problems, especially if it's got a ride on an ICBM."

Gortney’s comment comes as US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter plans to visit Seoul on Thursday for talks on ways to bolster deterrence against North Korea.

Those talks, Carter said in a Monday speech, will "reinforce deterrence and improve capabilities on the peninsula to counteract an increasingly dangerous and provocative North Korea."

After its last nuclear test in 2013, North Korea claimed that it had the ability to hit the mainland US with nuclear-tipped missiles. It also defied United Nations Security Council resolutions by test-firing ballistic missiles.

North Korea May Possess 20 Nuclear Warheads

According to the latest expert estimates, Pyongyang may have accumulated some 20 nuclear warheads with the capability of doubling its potential by 2016.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Pyongyang may have accumulated some 20 nuclear warheads with the capability of doubling its potential by 2016, according to the latest expert estimates.

The figures, sounded by Chinese nuclear experts during a closed meeting with US colleagues, exceed previous US estimations ranging from 10 to 16 nuclear bombs, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing sources briefed on the issue.

"They [Chinese experts] believe on the basis of what they've put together now that the North Koreans have enough enriched uranium capacity to be able to make eight to 10 bombs' worth of highly enriched uranium per year," Siegfried Hecker, former director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, who attended the meeting in February, said as quoted by the newspaper.

Earlier this month, head of US Northern Command Admiral William Gortney told reporters that North Korea may be capable of placing a nuclear warhead on a long-range missile that could reach the United States.

North Korea declared itself a nuclear power in 2005 and has conducted a series of underground nuclear weapon tests in the subsequent years. Pyongyang's nuclear program has triggered protests from the international community.

North Korea will not give up nuclear weapons unilaterally — ambassador

It is North Korea’s consistent position to boost nuclear deterrent forces with the aim of countering the ever growing threat of nuclear war with US, the ambassador noted

BEIJING, July 28. /TASS/. Pyongyang will not give up nuclear weapons unilaterally, North Korea’s Ambassador to China Ji Zae Ryong said on Tuesday.

"We are absolutely not interested in dialogue [six-party talks on Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program] on precondition that North Korea ‘freezes’ or gives up completely its nuclear weapons. Nuclear deterrence forces are not a bargaining chip at the negotiations table," the ambassador noted.

"North Korea is a country that owns nuclear weapons. The fact of owning nuclear weapons is fixed in North Korea’s Constitution. Apart from that, works on miniaturizing and diversifying nuclear weapons have long been underway in our country. It is North Korea’s consistent position to boost nuclear deterrent forces with the aim of countering the ever growing threat of nuclear war with US," Ji Zae Ryong said.

The diplomat stressed that the mechanism used to reach agreements on Iran’s nuclear program will not work with North Korea, since Pyongyang, unlike Tehran, "already has nuclear weapons."

North Korea Preparing to Conduct Another Nuclear Test

Pyongyang is preparing for another nuclear test, media reports suggested Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the South Korean Yonhap news agency, citing intelligence sources, the test was not imminent.

In 2003, Pyongyang joined negotiations on the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula with the United States, Russia, China, Japan and South Korea, after it withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that it ratified in 1985.

North Korea then withdrew from the talks, declared itself a nuclear power in 2005, and conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013. Pyongyang has never made public how many nuclear weapons it possesses.

Pyongyang’s nuclear activities have received international condemnation.

DPRK Proves Successful in H-bomb Test
    In-Depth Coverage

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government issued the following statement Wednesday:

There took place a world startling event to be specially recorded in the national history spanning 5 000 years in the exciting period when all service personnel and people of the DPRK are making a giant stride, performing eye-catching miracles and exploits day by day after turning out as one in the all-out charge to bring earlier the final victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche, true to the militant appeal of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

The first H-bomb test was successfully conducted in the DPRK at 10:00 on Wednesday, Juche 105 (2016), pursuant to the strategic determination of the WPK.

Through the test conducted with indigenous wisdom, technology and efforts the DPRK fully proved that the technological specifications of the newly developed H-bomb for the purpose of test were accurate and scientifically verified the power of smaller H-bomb.

It was confirmed that the H-bomb test conducted in a safe and perfect manner had no adverse impact on the ecological environment.

The test means a higher stage of the DPRK's development of nuclear force.

By succeeding in the H-bomb test in the most perfect manner to be specially recorded in history the DPRK proudly joined the advanced ranks of nuclear weapons states possessed of even H-bomb and the Korean people came to demonstrate the spirit of the dignified nation equipped with the most powerful nuclear deterrent.

This test is a measure for self-defence the DPRK has taken to firmly protect the sovereignty of the country and the vital right of the nation from the ever-growing nuclear threat and blackmail by the U.S.-led hostile forces and to reliably safeguard the peace on the Korean Peninsula and regional security.

Since the appearance of the word hostility in the world there has been no precedent of such deep-rooted, harsh and persistent policy as the hostile policy the U.S. has pursued towards the DPRK.

The U.S. is a gang of cruel robbers which has worked hard to bring even a nuclear disaster to the DPRK, not content with having imposed the thrice-cursed and unheard-of political isolation, economic blockade and military pressure on it for the mere reason that it has differing ideology and social system and refuses to yield to the former's ambition for aggression.

The Korean Peninsula and its vicinity are turning into the world's biggest hotspot where a nuclear war may break out since they have been constantly stormed with all nuclear strike means of the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops, including nuclear carrier strike group and nuclear strategic flying corps.

While kicking up all forms of economic sanctions and conspiratorial 'human rights' racket against the DPRK with mobilization of the hostile forces, the U.S. has made desperate efforts to block its building of a thriving nation and improvement of the people's living standard and 'bring down its social system'.

The DPRK's access to H-bomb of justice, standing against the U.S., the chieftain of aggression watching for a chance for attack on it with huge nukes of various types, is the legitimate right of a sovereign state for self-defense and a very just step no one can slander.

Genuine peace and security cannot be achieved through humiliating solicitation or compromise at the negotiating table.

The present-day grim reality clearly proves once again the immutable truth that one's destiny should be defended by one's own efforts.

Nothing is more foolish than dropping a hunting gun before herds of ferocious wolves.

The spectacular success made by the DPRK in the H-bomb test this time is a great deed of history, a historic event of the national significance as it surely guarantees the eternal future of the nation.

The DPRK is a genuine peace-loving state which has made all efforts to protect peace on the Korean Peninsula and security in the region from the U.S. vicious nuclear war scenario.

The DPRK, a responsible nuclear weapons state, will neither be the first to use nuclear weapons nor transfer relevant means and technology under any circumstances as already declared as long as the hostile forces for aggression do not encroach upon its sovereignty.

There can neither be suspended nuclear development nor nuclear dismantlement on the part of the DPRK unless the U.S. has rolled back its vicious hostile policy toward the former.

The army and people of the DPRK will steadily escalate its nuclear deterrence of justice both in quality and quantity to reliably guarantee the future of the revolutionary cause of Juche for all ages.

Juche Korea will be prosperous forever as it holds fast to the great WPK's line of simultaneously pushing forward the two fronts. -0-

So far there are only two nutjobs with nukes. US and Israel, one has used it and the other constantly mentions to use it if their superiority is ever being touched. I am glad NK has nukes and i hope they get ballistic missile technology to actually be capable to deliver such nukes to US east coast that will make the country free from this illegal sanctions while the scum regime of Israel has never faced any sanctions despite having done billion times illegal actions aswell broke international law all North Korea couldn't do through its entire existence along with Korea before that.

I can't but fully agree with Werewolf here. I'm dejected by the apparent russian and chinese reaction though, don't know if it's just for show or they mean it. Anything that makes the scumbags in Washington sh*t their pants is good for Russia and China. As opposed to the painful list of victims of US imperialism, NK could really bite back even if that's the last thing they'll do.

There are a lot of Russians and even more Chinese living in potential fallout zones if SHTF hence the reaction.

Also, GRU probably has some info that we don't know about. Nork technology is hardly top of the line, safety systems included...

I would take any bet to say North Koreans pay much more attention to safety on their nukes than US has ever done. The US is prone lack technology, safety and even common sense how to handle nukes. I am like the rest of the world who are not consumed with US and South Ukoreaps, Anti-North Korean propaganda not only feel but evidently much safer world having them nukes than US.

    Kinda both

Anything that makes the scumbags in Washington sh*t their pants is good for Russia and China. As opposed to the painful list of victims of US imperialism, NK could really bite back even if that's the last thing they'll do.

I suppose it might be good if it means that NK reduces their huge army and military spending and spends that money on economic development and raising living standards instead.. as they say they'll do. Time will tell.

However, I just view it all as too risky, NK with nukes. It's proliferation and proliferation is never good - it would push neighbours into more armament and possibly their own nuclear capabilities (unlikely with the US presence, but who knows).
Also, there's the possibility for nuclear brinkmanship and threats. NK is a real hard-liner - sure they may not be out to conquer anyone, but they're ridiculously paranoid and fiercely territorial, they view anything and everything the US/South Korea/Japan does as an affront, and always raise the military option and promise retaliation. Think of them as a cornered rat. They might not be the aggressor, or the instigator - but they are the most unpredictable. Russia has more political influence over Iran than China does over NK; despite the Chinese all but control their purse strings. One of these days this whole thing might escalate and if it does; I'd rather not that nukes come into the equation. Better that both sides keep to conventional arms in that case.

    How is North Korea Paranoid?

If they react with security measures to assure independance due to factual US hands within South Korea constantly trying to bring tensions with navy "drills" right infront of North Korean seas, the constant hate and propaganda campaign by US and South Ukorea, constant arming of the South Ukoreans and constant threats by US and thise peasants proxy warmongering regime. If that is all no concern then North Korea is paranoid.
