    It is the Provorny.
Was expected to be commissioned in 2022.
There will certainly be some delays.

    Today at Severnaya Werf.
The ship is the Retivy (perhaps renamed as Mercury).
No name is appearing on the side (adding to the confusion).

Edit. The "Provorny" that caught fire today is behind it in construction with scaffolding on the side.

Looks like bright flame but it Shouldn't be big deal as long as it was exterior damage and contained quickly. They are really good at metal fabrication, so even if damage was done to mast they can replace fairly quickly. If it was contained and did not damage any of the interior/control systems/electronics, then it should be fine.

If it was just panel damage and some dumb mistake with the welder, then not be big deal.

Hopefully noone was hurt that's most important, skilled metal workers tough to come by, and protecting them is of utmost importance

    3 firefighters were hurt.
Thank God, no one died and that it is the most important thing.
    Fire happened on Friday evening.
We don't know yet what was the cause of the fire.
Too many hazards during a ship's construction (all the flammable things lying around: paint, varnish, gas cylinders, rags etc.)
No crew (with fire training) on board.
Automatic fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems not installed.
There will be an inquiry of course.
We don't know the extent of the damage yet.
We don't know if the ship can be saved or is it going to have the same fate of the USS Bonhomme Richard.

Radar mast was on it. The ship was ready and all the stuff inside was there. Everything seems to have burnt and the structure is totally affected by such fire so you can't use the hull anymore.

The ship is dead unless the fire was less spectacular than what it seem on those poor quality images.

What time was it when it happened ? I have the feeling it is a sabotage after everyone left work and the shipyard was empty.

Agreed. Even the low rez video shows the interior is aflame.

IMHO Provorny is toast I'm afraid. Now find out how this happened and hang the f*cker somewhere they can be a warning to others... angry

    Yeah, this thing is gone

Damn shame, it couldn't be one of the vanilla 20380, had to be the fancy version

Getting Amur shipyard back in shape has proven to be smart decision on multiple levels

How likely it is that this was a case of cigar break going wrong like on Bonnie Dick?

Anti smoking campaign in Russia should really be intensified either way

Upside is that this one is much cheaper than Bonnie Dick, downside is that warship construction in Russia takes longer than construction of pyramids

Hopefully they will be able to salvage the engines, that's the hardest part to come by for them

Back half of the vessel should be fine, so propulsion train and expensive systems can be salvaged. Not much consolation however...

I also wouldn't discount the possibility of arson/sabotage driven by various motivations. It's especially peculiar since reports suggest that no active work was going on the ship at the time of the fire.

Wouldn't discount it either. What with the tensions and everything

    Let's wait for the investigation

The ship yesterday before the fire. Actually it wasn't carrying the radars it seems. I guess the interior wasn't fitted to. They were probably still working on the wiring. So it's a good news since those electronics cos as much as the hull and the rest of the boat.

They also said the hull was not touched by the fire, only the upper structure which can be replaced pretty fast.

But what can make such big fire if the ship was empty ? No oil no kerosen for chopper, no weapons onboard. To burn the metal you need something to start the fire first.

Last evening EMERCON was worried about multiple tanks of various chemicals on site exploding... perhaps they were the major fuel of the fire.

Yeah didnt think it would be huge deal, as I said if radar mast was not placed even better, it's just paneling, and superstructure. No control systems or electronics. Usually they do all that once the ship is near completion as far as construction goes.

Just need to cut out the destroyed metal, load of grinding and sanding, prepare to weld again with new pieces, and get back to work.

Mast and electronics/controls systems more difficult to replace as they are more limited and complex in construction process.

If hull itself was not touched , then it's not worth discussing. Cannot be compared to Richard Bonhomme full blown assault ship blazing in port.

Something has to be. Metal don't burn alone.

If it was a bomb they would have felt it. Something just burnt there on the ship.

    Yeah, it's done for

Even if hull didn't burn in full it still got dented from temperature

Engines should be intact and radars apparently weren't installed so they can be reused but ship itself is a write-off

They better lay down new one ASAP (this one in Amur)

Superstructure is fibreglass, so its flammable.  You can see the mast virtually intact in the rubble lying at an angle as it fell as the superstructure collapsed around it.

It was not metal that burned, but the glass fiber the superstructure is made of melted.
What was burning is probably the paint, as we can see it was painted with primer.
