The armament of Russian Project 20380 corvettes is planned to include Kalibr cruise missiles, and in the future - supersonic Onyx missiles. The decision to increase the combat capabilities of these ships was made by the Russian Ministry of Defense based on the experience of a special military operation, sources in the military department told Izvestia.

Several options for deploying new weapons systems are currently being studied. In one of them they can be placed instead of the X-35 Uran missile systems in the middle part of the ship’s hull. In another, it is planned to replace containers of anti-aircraft missiles with universal ship-based firing systems UKSK-M.

According to Izvestia’s sources, the experience of a special military operation has shown that surface ships are the most important element in the destruction of ground targets, therefore their arsenal requires the maximum number of universal missiles, such as “Caliber” and “Oniks”.

“Project 20380 corvettes were initially equipped with Uran anti-ship missiles. These are good missiles; they are also used in special military operations to fire at coastal targets. Their range is more than 300 km. At the same time, “Caliber” has proven itself even better. Longer range, better accuracy. And it’s a completely sensible idea to adapt such missiles for these ships during modernization,” military historian Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia.

Project 20380 corvettes of the Steregushchiy type are the basis of the modern Russian surface fleet. Today, nine such ships are in service. "Steregushchy", "Sobrazitelny", "Boikiy" and "Stoikiy" serve in the Baltic Fleet. “Perfect”, “Gromky”, “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” and “Rezky” are part of the Pacific Fleet (PF).

“Grozny” and “Bravey” are also being built for the Pacific Fleet; they should be transferred to the Navy in 2024 and 2026. In May of this year, the corvette Mercury entered the Black Sea Fleet, and Strogiy is being completed.

From what I understand these ships have modular design to begin with and were designed to have flexible configuration upon construction. One example of this is they are upgrading the original Project 20380 "Steregushchiy" to a different configuration. I assume they mean to upgrade the rest of the Project 20380 corvettes to a similar configuration.

These changes would mean the Project 20380 corvettes would get similar firepower to a Project 20385.
