WASHINGTON—U.S. officials are preparing to announce restrictions to Russian military flights over American territory under the Treaty on Open Skies in the latest sign of strain in U.S.-Russia relations.

The treaty, part of a suite of arms-control, transparency and confidence-building agreements that proliferated in the late stages of the Cold War, permits its 34 ratified member states to conduct observation flights over each other’s territory while capturing aerial imagery of military personnel and materiel.

Treaty-related tensions intensified over two days in August, when a Russian plane operating under Open Skies flew over U.S. cities including Washington as well as Bedminster, N.J., while President Donald Trump was staying at the Trump National Golf Club in the town.

Those flights, however, aren’t the cause of the new restrictions, according to U.S. officials. Instead, they assert that Russia is in violation of the Open Skies treaty, because the Kremlin imposed restrictions on flights over Kaliningrad, Russia’s Baltic Sea exclave, which U.S. officials believe is host to a cache of sophisticated weaponry.

First stage of certification for Tu-210ON to take place in Kubinka

First stage of certification for Tu-210ON with new Russian-made surveillance equipment is to take place in Kubinka on May 21-29. It was announced by Sergei Ryzhkov, the Chief of the National Nuclear Risk Reduction Centre.

This event is to be held under the Treaty on Open Skies and is a preliminary demonstration of the technical capabilities of the aircraft and surveillance equipment. Representatives of 20 states-participants from Europe, USA and Canada will take part in the event.

The Russian Federation is the only state from 34 members that uses digital aerial cameras under the Treaty. It is more than three years now since the Russian Ministry of Defence has been actively using surveillance aircraft An-3OB and Tu-154M Lk-1 with digital equipment to make sorties over European countries, the USA and Canada.

Commissioning of the Tu-214ON surveillance aircraft is part of work aimed at introducing modern optoelectronic surveillance systems in the Treaty.

It is to be stressed that the Tu-214ON could be used both in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defence and national economy as well (it can provide environmental monitoring of environment, prevent industrial disasters and keeping track of emergencies).

On developing and modernizing the Treaty, the Russian Federation once again reaffirms its adherence to its fundamental principles and the interest in its long-term and effective functioning.

During the preliminary certification at Kubinka airfield, foreign specialists will see design features of the Tu-214ON aircraft on ground and in the air. Other procedures under the Treaty will also take place.

Moreover, foreign inspectors will be able to learn in details about the ground-based complex for processing digital information and will have the opportunity to meet with the developers of the aircraft and surveillance equipment. This will allow resolving all technical and procedural issues that our foreign colleagues may have.

The results of this international event will become the basis for main inspection of the Tu-214ON aircraft, scheduled for September this year.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko sais that this move will worsen the situation of strategic stability and military security in Europe

MOSOW, May 21./TASS/. The US withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty will damage the interests of its allies in Europe, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told TASS on Thursday.

"This move will not only worsen the situation of strategic stability and military security in Europe, but apparently it will also harm the interests of the US allies that are parties to this European agreement," the diplomat added.

Attempts by the US to pass off the withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty as a reaction to Russia’s violations have absolutely no basis behind them, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Vladimir Yermakov told TASS on Thursday.

"This is absolutely unfounded, we have repeatedly commented on that," the diplomat said. "It is not for the first time that the US is trying to present matters so as if Russia is violating something, to see this as a pretext for its withdrawal from the agreements on arms control. We are ready for equal cooperation with the US. All issues were being settled quite adequately within the framework of the treaty, as it was also evidenced by NATO allies of the US," Yermakov added.

Russia should start work on developing a gigaton fusion device.   Blow it up in space.   I think that 1950s and 60s style
bombs were grossly inefficient.   There is plenty of room to tap from the fusion end of the equation.   It may be possible
to eventually reach tens of gigatons.  

Then put them in LEO orbit.   Lots of yanqui bed-wetting will ensue.

The real reason the Pentagram decided to pull the plug on the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is they need to overcome the critical design flaw in their nuclear warhead design: The reliance on Tritium Gas. Tritium, even in it's gas form has a half-life of 12.3 years, meaning they have to be updated/maintained every decade, so they have to be super careful and reliable in their warhead accounting, otherwise they may have a significant fraction of their warheads as defective duds. This also explains the reasoning on why they stockpiled Russian weapons-grade fuel.

These warhawks are the neocon chickenhawks.   They are invincible only in their minds since they have only engaged 3rd world countries
with their mighty navy.   With carriers and all.

Biden is going to try to pull a Killary and "put Russia in its place".   The only country that is going to be put in its place is the USA.

But it is clear that this is all diversion of the attention of the American sheeple form their serious domestic problems, both social and

You are right kvs but the US is going to try and cause trouble for Russia and China.

I just read some articles and saw videos on the people that are going to be in Biden cabinet and they want to "contain China" and "make trouble for Russia".

For China they are saying that they are going to stop all of China's major economic projects and they want to have the ability to strike every Chinese military base, Submarines and Ships in 72 hours.

For Russia, they want to cause problems on Russia's borders(especially in Ukraine) and they want to cause problems for Russia in the Kurdish held parts of Syria and have the ability to hit every Russian military targets.

The question they did not ask is, what happens after you have hit Russian or Chinese targets?

When Russia and China hits back, don't start crying.

Trump for all his warts did not start a major war but that is about to change.

I hope Russia and China are ready for this, President Xi Jinping told his troops to prepare their minds, body's and souls for war, now I know why he did this.

Russia's and China military's are going to challenged like never before(in the modern era).
