Has anyone else notice how much clearer the skies are now that there are few aircraft in the skies?

We have a high pressure over us in the UK and the sky is an amazing blue with no actual or dying remains of contrails.

I am particularly interested in those of you who live under busy flight paths, like the Balkans. I always felt that it was unfair to you to have the sun obscured by aircraft that were bringing no benefit to you.

Also, is the temperature up on normal? After 9/11 when aircraft were banned from US skies the ground temperature apparently rose by 0.5 degrees. Watch out for the climate change crowd claiming this Smile

The absence of the visible and sub-visible cirrus clouds induced by aircraft aerosol emissions is going to impact the annual mean
temperature. The ice clouds in the tropopause region act literally as a greenhouse by allowing shortwave transmission and
reflecting longwave (IR) flux from below. The magnitude of the cooling will not be dramatic since CO2 (and the H2O vapour
persistence it induces via its impact on temperature) is the primary agent of global warming. But it will be an interesting
test measure the impact and compare it to GCMs.

Our skies are pretty clear normally anyway, but I have noticed a lack of cars on the road which is actually rather nice.

There was a news segment on RT where they showed footage from India... places are clearing of smog and certain cities are seeing things they haven't seen for some time. One city can now see a range of mountains nearby that normally can't be seen because of the fog... I suspect in a lot of Asian cities they will be seeing stars previously hidden...

Might be interesting if they record things properly... at some time when all cars are electric and all planes have special high powered batteries and are electric too perhaps we might get back to this for good... something nice to look forward to really...

(Note the RT videos included footage from the same cities in previous years and they have taken new footage now from the same place for a comparison... and you can clearly see the difference... quite impressive..)
