Complex "Lever-AV" - helper of rotary-wing aircraft: on the increase in the number of helicopters with radio suppression systems

The Ministry of Defense has decided to significantly increase the number of helicopters equipped with electronic warfare "Lever-AV" systems. According to the military department, the grouping of the Southern Military District, including Crimea, will be strengthened first.

According to the plans of the Ministry of Defense, the subdivisions and units of the Southern Military District will be reinforced with Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters with the "Lever-AV" radio suppression system. The emergence of these helicopters will be an effective response to the possible deployment of medium and short-range missiles in the region.

The number of vehicles planned for delivery has not been reported. Earlier, the Ministry of Defense ordered 18 helicopters in this modification, most likely, the number of machines will be increased, if this has not already happened.

The first helicopters with the electronic warfare "Lever-AV" system appeared in 2016. At the beginning of April of that year, Russian Helicopters announced the early modernization of the Mi-8MTV-5-1 helicopters with the installation of the Lever-AV system on them. In mid-April 2016, the first two modernized helicopters entered the ZVO.

Active jamming stations "Lever-AV" are powerful enough to "blind" the enemy's electronics at a distance of up to 150 kilometers. At the same time, it is argued that this is only one of the operating modes, the range of the complex is much greater. The stations have a database with information about various means that pose a threat to the covered objects. The computer system matches the signal coming from the source with the types of signals available in the database. If a match with a threat signal is detected, then the system works, which selects the most effective interference for the source of danger. The complex operates fully automatically without operator intervention. Base stations "Lever-AV" - multi-beam antenna arrays. When generating signals, the station uses DRFM (Digital Radio Frequency Memory - digital processing and recording of radio signals) technology, which guarantees stable reception of signals from radar facilities and their radio suppression throughout the entire coverage area.

The Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopter, while in the air, is capable of simultaneously jamming up to 8 enemy radars, interfering not only with ground, but also aviation radars. With the help of "Lever-AV" stations, helicopters are able to conduct electronic reconnaissance and suppress enemy troops and weapons control systems. The systems provide group protection for aviation and ground vehicles.

Mi-8MTPR-1 is produced at the Kazan Helicopter Plant. In 2019, information appeared about the imminent adoption of an upgraded version of the system - Lever-AVM ".

Russian aviation may receive EW-protected antennas

Moscow. February 26. INTERFAX-Russian combat aircraft may receive anti-interference antenna arrays "Komet", said the head of the Main Department of research activities of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation, major General Andrey Goncharov.

"The development has prospects for introducing combat aviation equipment into navigation systems, "he said in an interview with the official newspaper of the Russian defense Ministry, Krasnaya Zvezda.

At the moment, the antenna array is installed on drones.

"The device neutralizes the impact of enemy electronic warfare equipment on the navigation equipment of an unmanned aerial vehicle due to the adaptive properties of the receiving antenna," the major General noted.

"Will create an electronic shield around fighters": in Asia, Soviet-made aircraft are equipped with a Talisman defense complex
    Today, 04: 38

The countries of Southeast Asia are equipping their combat aircraft with new means of defense, trying to strengthen the protection of outdated Soviet-built machines.

In particular, an Indonesian Su-27 fighter, on which the Talisman airborne defense system was installed, was caught in the photo lens. This BKO is produced in Belarus by the Defense Initiatives enterprise. It is designed to counter threats posed by various types of missiles - both airborne and ground-based, including MANPADS. BKO has two modes of operation - "electronic stealth" and "false target".

This product provides protection for aircraft in the vicinity that are not equipped with such electronic warfare systems [...] Test and test results are very satisfactory

    - noted in the Indonesian edition of EGI Inovasi.

The Vietnamese Air Force did not stand aside from the novelties of the Belarusian defense industry. "Talisman" was installed on the Su-22M4 fighter-bomber.

There is no doubt that the BKO Talisman will create an electronic shield around the Vietnamese fighters

    - indicated in the publication.

As explained, the Vietnamese Air Force has 36 modernized Su-22 aircraft, which have undergone a series of improvements in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. As a result, they were able to effectively use the R-13, R-60 and R-73 air-to-air missiles.

Airborne Electronic Warfare/Defence systems - Page 2 Empty A new airborne defense system is being created for attack helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces ,08.10.2023.

A new airborne defense system is being created for attack helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces ,08.10.2023.

A promising airborne defence complex (BKO) is being created for combat helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The equipment will operate on new principles and will make it possible to reflect missiles with combined guidance systems. About this in an interview with RIA Novosti informed First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation Vladimir Artyakov.

According to him, the evolution of aircraft onboard protection systems is a constant process, since the guidance systems of anti-aircraft and aircraft missiles are constantly improving, their noise immunity is growing.

“Under these conditions, of course, work is underway to create promising airborne defence systems using both traditional and other construction principles. They will make it possible to protect aircraft from guided weapons, including those with combined guidance systems ,” Artyakov said.

He noted that the Vitebsk airborne defense system demonstrates high efficiency in the NVO zone, reliably protecting helicopters from MANPADS, including Western-made ones.

“According to the testimonies of the pilots, thanks to this equipment, it was possible to reflect several launches of anti-aircraft missiles of various modifications at once and safely return to the airfield. In recent years, Vitebsk has gone through several stages of modernization, taking into account the recommendations of the military,” added the First Deputy General Director of Rostec.

In June 2023, an informed source informed RIA Novosti that one of the Ka-52 attack helicopters, due to the Vitebsk complex, repelled 18 missiles fired at it from MANPADS during a flight.

The structure of the BKO "Vitebsk" includes ultraviolet sensors, means of active suppression, devices for shooting false thermal targets and chaff. In automatic mode, UV radiation sensors detect anti-aircraft missile launches at a helicopter, and the control system calculates their coordinates. Then the most suitable means of defence is included in the work.

Jamming stations are used to counter the radar or radar seeker. Thermal optoelectronic systems or GOS are suppressed by a laser. Shooting squibs with false thermal targets interferes with the infrared homing heads of anti-aircraft missiles.
