The F-35 Just Got $1.7 Billion More Expensive

    http://warisboring.com/the-f-35-just-got-1-7-billion-more-expensive/

I am not the one to jump on bandwagons or anything but for overrun costs alone they could have upgraded F-22, restart it's production, buy as many as they need and still have enough cash to purchase small naval fleet... Neutral

these exercises are hilarious. They cant use majority of their sensors in some cases and most of the jets available are not really all that great at dog fighting. Let alone, the F-35 lacks that option almost altogether.

    It is always skewed.

DAS is part of DIRCMS... MiG-35s and Su-35s will have that as well as PAK FA.

Networked information sharing is also part of the package... will it really be that different having an F-35 provide information on targets compared with now where JSTARS and AWACS provides the same info?

Really don't think these are things that will save an F-35 when missiles are flying... at the end of the day fighters kill with AAMs and cannon... sophisticated aircraft can stop missiles most of the time so against a third world country the F-35 will be fine... but against China or Russia or India for that matter they will find they are dogfighting with a real gun fighter and more likely than not they will be in trouble because they are not faster or longer ranged than the later model Flankers let alone anything 5th gen, so they can't even run away properly.

Nice photo of f35 . Looks like staged photo . To " show " agility of missile . In reality plane went to steep dive with after burner on , to gain speed . Then fired missile . And pulled up at the same time . This create illusion that missile has great agility and small turning radius . You can tell by missile exhaust . It was fired higher and steeper angle .

More Troubles: US Air Force Grounds 55 F-35s as Pilots Suffer Oxygen Deprivation

A total of 55 F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters were grounded after five incidents in which pilots experienced symptoms of oxygen deprivation.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Air Force has been forced to halt flights of 55 F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters after five pilots suffered oxygen deprivation in problems with their air supply systems, according to US media reports.

"The US Air Force has grounded 55 of its F-35 Joint Strike Fighters at Arizona’s Luke Air Force base following five incidents in which pilots experienced symptoms of oxygen deprivation," Defense One reported on Friday.

US Air Force F-35s had previously been grounded in September 2016 as fight operations had to be suspended after a discovery that electrical lines in their fuel tanks had cracked, the report noted.

The pilots "reported physiological incidents while flying," but a reserve oxygen system was activated so they could return to base safely, US Air Force spokesman Captain Mark Graff told Defense One in an email.

Graff also stated in the email that the aircraft should be back in the air on Monday.

The F-35 program is scheduled to cost more than $1 trillion making it the most expensive aircraft and weapons program in history and the plane has been repeatedly dogged by systems breakdowns and failures.

loses stealth ability the moment it has hard points and external munitions ... so what is the point of having stealth ?? the internal weapons bay in the F-35s are extremely limited

The F-35 just flow at the Paris air show !! I saw it in live from my window and I'm sure now it's truely a big Pig Very Happy Laughing No need radar to see it Laughing Laughing

More seriously, from the side it is hard to see it (and it was sunny without any cloud) but from the bottom when turning you can see it easily. The Su-35 was here in 2013 and I can say that the F-35 is louder than the Su-35 while Rafale is even more.

In terms of manoeuvrability, well, it's a pig. Needed all the space allowed to turn while Rafale and Su-35 does anything they want.

Those Europeans really did make the right choice, gonna sweep the world. Pat on the back all round.

"Come round to our stand" "By the way I retire in six months month from the air force here, good time to talk about that consultancy contract you mentioned?"[/i]

Now someone shut that idiot up in the DoD with those non-problems.

I think F 35 is great plane . Look at it . It looks great . It flies . And has a pilot . It may cost a lot . But who cares . It is not our money . All yank allies must buy this fantastic plane . Even if they can only afford to buy six of them . The Brits especially must buy them . The pilot who flies this . Can not be shot down . And can destroy two hundred enemy aircraft . My only criticism is that they should make this plane , able to fly in outer space . In orbit .

The U.S. Air Force’s first operational F-35 squadron is slated to receive the first fully combat-capable aircraft in September, as the service contemplates sending the stealth fighter to the Pacific.

The 34th Fighter Squadron, known as the “Rude Rams,” of Hill AFB, Utah, is set to receive aircraft equipped with the final Block 3F software next month, which most critically will allow the fighter to employ its full suite of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. Luke AFB, Arizona, the Air Force’s primary F-35 training squadron, will be the next to get the 3F capability, also in September, according to service spokesman Capt. Mark Graff.

US, Turkey in rift over S-400

If Turkey moves forward with its buy of a Russian air defense system, it will not be permitted to plug into NATO technology and further action may be forthcoming that could affect the country’s acquisition or operation of the F-35, a top U.S. Air Force official was quoted as saying on Nov. 15 by the Defense News.

Heidi Grant, deputy undersecretary of the U.S. Air Force for international affairs, reportedly made the comments on the floor of Dubai Air Show, where she met with companies and partner countries.

Grant’s comments came after Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said Turkey’s purchase of Russian S-400 surface-to-air mmissiles had been “completed.”

Grant was however unable to say exactly what course of action the United States would pursue once Turkey was delivered the S-400s from Russia.

“As a major NATO ally, we haven’t really looked into this yet,” she reportedly said in an interview with the Defense News. “We’re going to have to start looking at, if they are going to go through with this, how we can be interoperable in the future. But right now, I can tell you our policies do not allow us to be interoperable with that system.”

Grant has also commented on the planned delivery of Turkey’s first F-35s in 2018, saying that the S-400 acquisition also creates issue for the country’s use of the F-35.

The U.S. is worried that Turkey operating both the S-400 and F-35 together will lead Russia to find out about the vulnerabilities of the F-35.

“It’s a significant concern, not only to the United States, because we need to protect this high end technology, fifth-generation technology” but for “all of our partners and allies that have already purchased the F-35,” Grant said.
