As to Putin's attitude, sometimes I am shocked that people really don't appreciate that the guy actually appears to have some respect for the rule of law... should he behave like US, really? As you argue in your post, buying treacherous officials and behaving just like a mafia boss is not going to be a very sustainable way of doing things and is not a valid statesman behaviour, for many reasons.

Yeah, it is funny... Putin the dictator... Putin the Mafia boss... runs the country for his own personal gain... interferes world wide with elections, and is actively trying to destroy the west... destroy our democracy... yet he wont do as we tell him... we blame him for aggression but he hasn't actually invaded any neighbouring country with forces without permission... troops in South Ossetia and the Crimea and Syria were all there with permission...

Most of the time he is bad because of his aggression and ignoring the rules, and other times he is a bastard for not ignoring the rules... western spies caught in Russia should be immediately freed by Putin... he should dictate to the courts whether someone is guilty or not.... that is how western democracies work.... ask Assange... Ask Bout or Butina...

    That will be amusing...

But being the white knight on the front line saving the poor innocent and strangely vulnerable EU from the Russian aggression by moving HATO bases closer to Moscow means he can do no wrong... the Russian language banned and opposition groups abused or just made to disappear... are just some of the super powers anyone with anti Putin views get in the western media...

NATzO did not pony up the cash for Ukraine so it will not give Belorus $8 billion US per year in direct grants to prop it up.
Losing the equivalent of 3.5 months of wages from the workforce per year will mess Belorus up. Luk-ass-shenko will
not have his way and the Belorussian people will be impoverished for real just like Ukrainians.

I don't think it's gonna get to this point.

Essentially a Russian political scientist put it best to Tass - that what Luka is trying to do is strengthen his position against Russia so that Russia has no one else to deal with but him, and that he will try to get the upper hand in any negotiation.

It was obvious when he stated at the beginning of his address how Russia and Belarus will always be allies. The. Came the "but" phrase.

I think Belarus will just keep the status quo

    Average Russians are pissed though.

Well he was already the only one to negotiate with before he started flirting with the West and marginalizing pro-russians in the government. And the reason he started doing that is precisely that he was not going to have the upper hand in negotiations with Russia any more. In the end Russia cannot be surprised by what is happening, it was a necessary consequence of starting to cut privileges to people that got used to them. Lukashenko could have been a good statesman and understood that the best for Belarus is an increasing integration with Russia, but his ego and personal interests stood in the way.

As said, by leading the anti-Russian mood in the country he expects to steal that argument from the opposition and maybe be considered by the West as a valid counterpart. Lets see whether he pulls that one off, but what is clear is that by distancing itself from Russia the country only has to lose.

He isn't going west cause he knows that it won't work out for him.

He is trying to prevent another to take his place. That was the pretext for all of this - blaming Russia and the opposition at the same time saying they are collaborating.

He won't give up the gold mine that is Russia. He is just hoping for more bribe money out of it.

It's still in Russia's best interest to start funding alternatives to Lukashenko while moving production they get from Belarus away and in Russia.

If in the unlikely chance they move towards the west, it won't be long before he is removed and someone else takes power. Because they don't want a strong man in power. They want a yes man in power.

I wish I could have your optimism. Lukashenko is a corrupt comprador who is selling his country down the river. Making deals with
the Devil to negotiate with God is not a viable path. The west will chew up Belorus and Lukashenko will be eliminated if they can find
some fresh grifter like Navalny to take his place. Even the west would not want to deal with this capricious retard.

I don't understand what exactly is to be gained by selling out to NATzO. The Belorus government and MSM is infiltrated with NATzO
loyalists and Russia haters. How is this good for any deal with Russia? Why would Russia want another hater pustule like Banderastan
in close association? It does not make any sense.

It is important to note that the $8 billion US per year of Russian investment in Belorus is not trade. Belorus depends for 50% of
its trade with Russia. If Russia would cut off Belorus cold turkey, the economy of Belorus would implode.

I think that is exactly the medicine they need. The faster it is prescribed the better since it will stimulate the "moya hata s krayu"
sheeple to wake up. As of now they are doing nothing as a pro-NATzO suppository is inserted.

Russia needs to start cutting trade with the countries that are not friendly, the Baltic States in particular.

I totally agree. When these brazen hubris-filled windbag haters talk about making money off of Russia at the same
time as they install NATzO invasion assets on Russia's borders Russia needs to take action. Appeasing them is total
idiocy. They do not understand any language other than raw power. And Russia has plenty of raw power including
in economics. These clowns do not need to be invaded, they need to be cut off and left to go grovelling to Bruxelles
    and Washington for charity.

Seriously, what is the f*cking difference if Russia cuts them off when they are already doing the maximum to damage
Russia? Not cutting them off is clearly not stopping their malicious activity.

Transit through their ports and railways is being shut down progressively, as new infrastructure and capabilities are put in place in Russia, pipelines are being built... slowly but steadily, as good work is done.

Can this be considered as an attack on russian citizens by Ukraine and answered with military means ? It seems those guy arrested were from Donbass rather than Russia.

If Russia doesn't protect them and do against Belorussia/Ukraine, Turkey/USA/Nato could start bombing the same in Africa (Libya, Central Africa, Venezuela).

According to Alexander Kots's sources in the Russian security services, the Russian PMC contractors in Belarus were set up by the Ukrainian security services (a provocation). He says their entire project was fake. 108/

Thanks for doing this George, was going to do it myself but took too long to find a suitable thread... good job.

When fake liberals claim he is a dictator and ultranationalists say he is a pussy, you know the guy must be doing something right

Exactly... you know Putin is acting in the interests of the Russian people when the western media and politicians are squealing like pigs...

He is trying to prevent another to take his place. That was the pretext for all of this - blaming Russia and the opposition at the same time saying they are collaborating.

He won't give up the gold mine that is Russia. He is just hoping for more bribe money out of it.

The problem is that the miners in that gold mine have realised he is screwing them and are running a go slow.

I rather suspect all this anti Russia bullshit he is trying is him feeling the waters to see if the west might give him a better offer than what he is currently getting from Russia... he isn't the first leader to try to play different power groups against each other... for goodness sake just name a border country...

It's still in Russia's best interest to start funding alternatives to Lukashenko while moving production they get from Belarus away and in Russia.

They certainly need to look at all their trade with belarus and work out what things they source there they could get from Russia instead... if he does turn west and kick Russia out then having plans in place to move everything critical back to Russia would be valuable, but might be counter productive just to do it pre-emptively.

Cutting off Belarus because you think he might cut ties means he can find out what the west can offer without running any risk of a backlash from the population... because Russia did it... how can you blame him for that?

If Russia just waits and lets him try to cut the relationship they will be better prepared to move things to Russia but can blame him for the separation... the resulting backlash perhaps from the older generation and adults might be enough to prevent a turn to the west and actually make them join the federation under a new leader who actually cares about the people of Belarus... but the time of giving them lots of work and contracts to create ties should be over now because the cost could be losing it and having to recreate it back inside Russian borders... which will be expensive and cause delays.

If in the unlikely chance they move towards the west, it won't be long before he is removed and someone else takes power. Because they don't want a strong man in power. They want a yes man in power.

This is true he is an asshole, but he wont stand by and let them asset strip the country if he does not get a cut.

The Belorus government and MSM is infiltrated with NATzO
loyalists and Russia haters. How is this good for any deal with Russia? Why would Russia want another hater pustule like Banderastan

I agree, they don't need them that bad...

“we do not know what they are capable of. We do not even know who they are: Americans with NATO, or someone from Ukraine or our eastern brothers...A hybrid war is going on against Belarus and we should expect dirty tricks from any side” 106/

Suggests it didn't get the reaction he was hoping for and he is back tracking. Perhaps he wanted the people to rise up and protest at Russia trying a Maidan, but they clearly are not that stupid.

It is important to note that the $8 billion US per year of Russian investment in Belorus is not trade. Belorus depends for 50% of
its trade with Russia. If Russia would cut off Belorus cold turkey, the economy of Belorus would implode.

And it is important to note when the Ukraine stopped trading with Russia... EU countries didn't step in and replace Russian demand for Ukrainian goods... they wanted to sell their own stuff...

Russia needs to start cutting trade with the countries that are not friendly, the Baltic States in particular.

With Belarus I would wait and see... no point throwing out the baby with the bath water, but I totally agree with the states that have chosen sides.... the Baltic states, Finland, Poland, Georgia, Ukraine...

I hope you read this - Putin is a creation of the West . The West has no reason to fear him. [Mostly] baseless allegations are made against him by Western governments to ensure that gullible people back home have something to fear. This ensures that our government can divert public attention from vital issues.

It took the Soviet Union only 16 years to send the first man into space after the end of WW2. In 20 years, Russia hasn’t learned to design its own computer, a machine tool, pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and much more.

Local factories have been shut down, and giant Western groups like VW, Citroen, BMW, Rolls Royce etc have opened factories in their place with ownership, management and technology coming from overseas. The profits are split between the Western corporations, oligarchs and officials.

National currency Ruble has slipped from 28.16 to 74.02 against US$ with prices rising accordingly, while wages stagnate, as more money hasn’t been printed possibly to avoid a runaway hyperinflation. Gas price rose by 483% (from 7.2 to 42). In case you didn't know, most of Russia’s revenues come from exporting crude oil.

The number of officials went up from 485,566 to 2.4 million.

The population of Russia is roughly the same as 20 years ago, while millions of migrants of color have received citizenship in that period of time. At least 150,000 ethnic Russian citizens, many of whom with excellent  skills, leave the country for good each year.

Russia spends more budget money on defense than on education and healthcare combined.

The number of hospitals fell by 50% (from 10,700 to 5,300). This actually points out to a logical conclusion that the population of Russia is much smaller than officially claimed.

The number of schools fell by 21% (from 68,100 to 41,349). This highlights the fact that most of the country has seen decline in population. People migrate to bigger cities and towns in search of work where they overwhelm the existing schools. The quality of education inevitably suffers.

At the same time, the number of Orthodox churches had doubled from 19,000 to 38,649, while the level of religiosity in the population hasn’t risen. Why are they building more churches, then? Because Russian Orthodox Church is a state corporation that exists for the sole objective of making its stakeholders and top management wealthy, which has been proven by photos and videos of high-flying lifestyle of thousands of priests.

Recent polls suggest median salary is 15k/month or $200/month, and a third of the population don’t have enough money to buy footwear for all members of the family. When asked to comment, Putin claimed that 17k a month is a middle class salary.

At the same time, Russia is at the 3rd place in the global ranking for the number of billionaires. Largest super-yachts and most expensive real estate in the world belong to Russian oligarchs.

Don’t listen to Kremlebots when they tell you Putin has built a country, Russians want their children to live in. They don’t. They are just afraid to change things, because they are divided and there are three million law-enforcement officers, judges on the government payroll and hundreds of penal colonies from hell.

So the West doesn't fear Putin. It's the ordinary Russians who are at his mercy.

I would agree with this so far...

I would add that Putin started out as a fan of the west and probably would have happily cooperated if the west had at least taken Russian interests in mind when it acts, but it didn't because it is not interested in taking anyone elses interests but its own in mind when it decides on things.

It took the Soviet Union only 16 years to send the first man into space after the end of WW2. In 20 years, Russia hasn’t learned to design its own computer, a machine tool, pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and much more.

Why would Russia waste time reinventing stuff that has already been invented... they have limited resources to piss away unlike the US apparently, and they knew they had a short window of opportunity before the west recognised potential a rival and tried to destroy it.

Local factories have been shut down, and giant Western groups like VW, Citroen, BMW, Rolls Royce etc have opened factories in their place with ownership, management and technology coming from overseas. The profits are split between the Western corporations, oligarchs and officials.

Lots of western companies have taken advantage of the cheap educated labour force, but I think that is more a criticism of western corporations... they build factories everywhere except the west where nothing is made any more.

Look at the recent crisis... all the masks and gloves were made in China...

I am no financial expert but the value of the ruble only matters with imported products and with all their sanctions and Russian sanctions in return there is not a huge amount you can import in Russia that you can't buy much cheaper from local production.... and even if that were not true... what a wonderful opportunity for a Russian to take advantage of the value of the Ruble and to start production in Russia and even export for valuable foreign money...

The number of officials went up from 485,566 to 2.4 million.

A meaningless number if they are doing a good job.

The population of Russia is roughly the same as 20 years ago, while millions of migrants of color have received citizenship in that period of time. At least 150,000 ethnic Russian citizens, many of whom with excellent skills, leave the country for good each year.

You racist censored . If those fine white Russian citizens want to leave Russia to find somewhere else to live why do you think it is Putins fault?

And Dem Nigger importz iz probly smarter dan u. Why should Russia be the only country on the planet not accepting migrants of whatever colour?

Russia spends more budget money on defense than on education and healthcare combined.

Perhaps if its neighbours were not psychotic arse holes funded and encouraged by the bastards in the west who live from war and death and destruction they could reduce that and change the balance, but until the west gets a conscience and stops murdering people Russia needs to spend money to protect itself... and I would add it is very rich someone from the west criticising Russia for spending 60 odd billion a year on Russian products, while the US spends more than 10 times that on stuff mostly sourced from China...

BTW despite having to completely rebuild their military from the ground up and their military industrial complex they never even approached the amount of money spent in the US.... in fact allowing for the low military spending from 2000-2008 they have probably spend less in the last 20 years than the US alone spends each year on defence.

And now that it is on track spending is actually going down... something that rarely happens in the US.

The number of hospitals fell by 50% (from 10,700 to 5,300). This actually points out to a logical conclusion that the population of Russia is much smaller than officially claimed.

Yeah, I am wondering which ass you are getting these numbers from, because I would suggest reality is likely the opposite.

If Russia had 10,700 hospitals when Putin got into power I would say they had no medicine and all the medical equipment was not working after 10 years of neglect and theft.

The number of schools fell by 21% (from 68,100 to 41,349). This highlights the fact that most of the country has seen decline in population. People migrate to bigger cities and towns in search of work where they overwhelm the existing schools. The quality of education inevitably suffers.

Where are these numbers coming from...

But really good one... urbanisation is happening in most countries on the planet but according to this article is it Putins fault...

People moving... only in Putins Russia...

Yeah, because in the rest of the world religions shy away from money and don't have any land or assets to speak of... I am sure there is a Scientology lecture on that very subject and if you pay a fee of $20,000 you can find out for yourself...

Recent polls suggest median salary is 15k/month or $200/month, and a third of the population don’t have enough money to buy footwear for all members of the family. When asked to comment, Putin claimed that 17k a month is a middle class salary.

Surely an above average salary would be a middle class salary.... isn't that how it works?

When the value of their currency is worth a fraction of a US dollar don't you think their income might appear low in dollar terms and therefore representing it in dollar terms is totally dishonest... but then I suspect they got these numbers from the same ass... so why bother?

At the same time, Russia is at the 3rd place in the global ranking for the number of billionaires. Largest super-yachts and most expensive real estate in the world belong to Russian oligarchs.

Many of Russias most wealthy live in the UK and hate Putin with a passion because he made them pay tax.

That is also really bad for the US though isn't it because recently a US media outlet said there are more millionaires and billionaires in China than in Russia... so is the US number two or worse?

Of course funny the accusers point to Putin and claim he is letting the rich get richer... like that never happens in the west... the first thing bush snr did when he was elected was cut taxes to the most wealthy... and most subsequent presidents on both sides have done the same because the people that fund their election campaigns are also the wealthy people who don't want to pay any tax at all.

But the crux of the issue is that many rich and powerful hate Putin because one of his requirements for letting you get rich is that you don't then use accountants to then not pay your fair share of tax... to most people in the west that seems reasonable.... they should be paying tax... but rich people in the west think they are special and should not pay any tax and they use their assets... CNN and Fox News and other levers like Hollywood movies to portray Putin as evil.... HE MAKES RICH PEOPLE PAY TAX... what an evil bastard...

Don’t listen to Kremlebots when they tell you Putin has built a country, Russians want their children to live in. They don’t. They are just afraid to change things, because they are divided and there are three million law-enforcement officers, judges on the government payroll and hundreds of penal colonies from hell.

Lots of people get upset with the way things are in their own country and feel powerless to make any changes and some of them pack up and leave... that is fine... but quite often they find their new country has most of the same problems plus a few different ones like hating foreigners and immigrants that steal their jobs. Some people return home... the ones that don't are not Russias or Putins problem.

So the West doesn't fear Putin. It's the ordinary Russians who are at his mercy.

And yet they keep voting for him.

Thanks for the laugh... before I read it I was expecting one of two narratives... Russia is all powerful and controls everything... it influences elections in every country around the world magically without leaving any evidence except when the wrong candidate wins of course, it is the greatest threat to democracy the world has ever known... Stalin and Hitler and Pol Pot and Saddam and Gaddafi and lots of other bad people all rolled in to one country...or Russia is in a state of collapse, it has nothing and does nothing and is fading away as we speak.... the different speeches are necessary because ...how can they have hypersonic weapons first if they can't even make their own computer.... and how are they dealing with ISIS with a relatively large force that includes bombers and SAMs and quite a few people for less money than we have been spending operating just a few thousands spec ops dudes there... the Russian military actually looks relatively strong with good weapons and systems that have been tested against our best stuff and come out quite well yet comes at a fraction of what we have to pay for our shit even though we are clearly over paying.

So we need more money... but the money we spend is so well spent we have them cornered and in imminent defeat mode...

The huge irony is that their strength is probably quite true but spending money money on defence hasn't been a solution so far.... how far down the hole of debt are you willing to run to find out that the simplest approach would be to just back off and stop acting like a total ass hole and just trade with them and treat them with some respect. They don't want to hurt you in any way... before you used your dollar as a weapon they bought your debt... in other words they were banking on your economy paying off the debt and making them money.

Right now they are spending enormous amounts of money in the North Sea Route and the Silk Roads from Asia to the EU... if they hated the west and wanted to destroy it why the fuck would they be investing in infrastructure to help crap made in Asia get to the EU faster and cheaper and crap made in the EU get to Asia faster and cheaper.

How did the west get so rich and powerful while at the same time being dumb as pig shit?

Belarusian president says union state with Russia impossible

The nation is not ready for this and will never be, Belarusian president said

KIEV, August 6. /TASS/. It is not possible now to create a union state of Belarus and Russia, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon on Thursday.

"It is impossible," Lukashenko said. "Even if I agreed to the reunification on the most favorable terms for Belarus, the people of Belarus would not accept it. The nation is not ready for this and will never be. The people are overripe," he noted.

"It was possible 20 or 25 years ago when the Soviet Union collapsed," Lukashenko believes. "But not now," he stated.

Ah the golden Yeltsin years when Russians had it so good. These are Navalny propaganda lies. Russians still remember
one of the greatest depressions in history. People were not paid money for work. Wage arrears approached one year and totaled
in the tens of billions of dollars equivalent. The notion that things got worse after 1999 is pure BS. Russia's GDP jumped by
10% in 2000. It saw growth over 7% for a few years then slowed down. But with Putin office, Russia has more than dug
itself out of the Yeltsin hole and Russians are now better off than they were in 1990.

You are right Garry. Those numbers are pulled straight from an anus. The insinuation by RTN is that since the number of
hospitals dropped the quality of health care has also. But the longevity figures prove the opposite. Back in the good old
1990s the average lifespan of a Russian male fell to 58 years. The figure is over 68 today. For females it is over 74 years.
RTN is also lying by omission and more BS insinuation. His claim is that no new hospitals are built in Russia so all the
downsizing is pure closure. In fact, there has been substantial new hospital construction which has led to the closure of
old, small hospitals that are no longer viable. Then we have RTN lying about the nature of the changes in the health
care system in Russia. What he calls hospitals are called walk in clinics in the west. During the USSR period clinics were
a primary focus for health delivery. But thanks to capitalism and budget constraints such fragmented infrastructure was
too expensive. So there has been a lot of consolidation as the transition to a more hospital-centric system has progressed.

If you try to use Google to do research on this you only get propaganda about how "rushed" was the Covid-19 hospital extension
construction. NATzO did not spend a dime building new hospital facilities for Covid-19 and China built temporary buildings.
So naturally Russia is doing it all wrong. NATzO and all its bootlicks can go and get f*cked.

Luk-ass-shenko's brain is fully rotted. He either assumes like the Baltic chihuahuas that it will be business as usual with Russia
in terms of subsidies and trade, or that NATzO will feed his corruption. On both counts he is dead wrong.
