    Mods,

For obvious reasons, a few trolls here should be given a permanent IP ban. It's time for the destruction of the forum to be prevented.

Yes, but does Russia have enough assets to hit Turkey so hard that Turkey will not be able to retaliate? And does Russia have the will?

By shooting down their planes using S-400. As for the will? If Putin acts, he will start WW3. If Putin does not act, he will lose election in 2018.

Putin is not planning on participating on next elections. Syrians shot Turkish F4 few years ago, WW3 did not start. Greece shot Turkish F16, WW3 did not start, Russia downed U2, WW3 did not start. Quit calling for WW3, you have not seen war, you did not experience war, i did and i can just tell you one thing, you do not want even local war to start with you being near, chill out...

I meant taking down Turkisn artillery positions that are shelling Kurds and SAA.

Hopefully it was not a mistake from Russia that it did not directly respond when Turkey shot down that Russian jet. Now Turkey might think that Russia will not attack Turkey directly even if Turkey officially attacks or invades Syria.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are criminals who back Qaeda financially and with arms bought from former Warsaw pact countries. Now that Putin and co are kicking Qaeda butt, they are openly involved. The war in Syria cannot be won until they are beaten.

The #SaudiMight's are getting their sphincters 'cornholed' by a rag--time group of #KitKhatSnackbar insurgents rocking Jesus sandals, and here we have people peddling fear-porn about the Saudi's ignoring the VKS's IAD with comments such as ..."nothing Russia can do about that" FFS... Rolling Eyes

Houthis are insurgents and it is difficult to fight them since they hide among civilians. SAA is out in the open and all their infrastructure are out in the open. Syria would be vulnerable to Saudi bombing campaign.

Syria still have strong air defense and there is also Russian air defense in Syria now, so you could bet Saudis will lost some planes in Syria if they start invading. On the other hand we must not forget, that if Saudis actually invade Syria, they will be at the same time in war with Iraq and Iran. Iraqi Shia army and Iranian divisions could simply invade KSA through Iraqi-Saudi border and destroy Saudi army inside KSA. This will also mean a lot of missiles will fall on Saudi oil installations and uprising of Shia population inside KSA. Saudi army is a joke and destroying Saudi oil capabilities will disable their capabilities to pay mercenaries to fight for them. I don't think Saudis will go in a war, which could push them in a stone age.

He said "special forces" in "US-led effort" and "should (as in if) the coalition decides to send ground troops"

    All three together.

    Why skew his statement? Suspect

Then he talks the usual generalisations and wishful thinking.
Assad needs to go, Syrian people don't want him, remove him either by force or by political process.

There is already a US led effort called Operation Inherent Resolve. Saudi Arabia is only getting involved because its Qaeda proxy is getting its butt kicked by Putin and co.

There is a Coalition with air component only. The scattered US folks at YPG areas are not with coalition blessing, as Gulf folk doesn't like the Kurds. You mis-quoted and mis-read the FM's statement and posted here the following:

"they will invade Syria and there is nothing Russia can do about that."

You are connecting two different things. The Saudi FM statement on CNN did not claim any of the above. It was careful and quite standard (what we've been gearing since ages ago + SF mission should Coalition decides to deploy boots on ground).

The fact that the US A-10s were able ti fly past the Russian air defense and bomb Aleppo seems like a serious problem to me.

How do you know they got past Russian air defense? Russia could have detected them but chose not to shoot them down.

The US and Russia have a agreement, at least I think they do, both countries have been meeting a lot of recent.

Coalition has been operating over Syria a good year before Russia got involved. This was the de facto state of affairs. Russia has no reason or beef with USAF bombing IS. Sure, twice they seem to have "diverged" from that objective (thermal plant + hospitals), but in the grand scheme of things it's a non issue.

Turkey is the primary sponsor of Qaeda. On top of that, tens of thousands of Turkish illegal immigrants are living in Aleppo province. The Syria war is about defeating Turkey.
