Re: Jordanian Armed Forces
Israel Gives Jordan Helicopters to Combat ISIL
As international efforts to counter the spread of the self-proclaimed Islamic State intensify, Israel has given 16 surplus AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters to Jordan to prevent militants from spilling across the border.
Israel had two squadrons of Cobra helicopters originally provided by the United States. Ideal for aerial surveillance, ground troop cover fire, and evading enemy missiles, both squadrons were disbanded by the Israeli Air Force by 2013 in favor of the Apache.
But according to US officials, the Cobras will soon see new life in Jordan.
"These choppers are for border security," the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters. In the handover, the Royal Jordanian Air Force will receive "around 16, though some may have been used by the Jordanians for spare parts."
Jordan already has 25 Cobras, and the new helicopters will be added to that fleet.
The news comes amid US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter’s visit to the region, where he stressed Washington’s interest in combatting the threat posed by IS.
"We’re trying to get a defeat that sticks," Carter told a group of US troops on Friday, according to NBC News. "And that can be delivered only by the people that live here. That’s the secret sauce."
Initiated last year, the deal has the full approval of Washington, a surprising reversal from last summer when the US blocked an Israeli effort to sell its Cobra helicopters to Nigeria. At the time, then-US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Washington’s objection was due to "ongoing concerns about the Nigerian military’s protection of civilians when conducting military operations."
Earlier on Friday, US Secretary of State John Kerry told a think-tank in New York that he planned to reach out to Russia for help in forging international cooperation in the fight against the terrorist group.
"We have to change the dynamic in Syria," Kerry told the Council on Foreign Relations, according to Reuters.
"We want to bring the Saudis in, we want to bring the Turks in, and ultimately, probably, we will have to see what the Iranians are prepared to do," he added.
This followed Thursday’s announcement that the Turkish government had decided to allow the US to use Incirlik Air Base to launch air strikes against IS militants. While Turkey had long opposed becoming involved in the conflict, border clashes in the past week forced Ankara to conduct its own military operations against the terrorist group earlier on Friday.
The Russian government has also been working closely with Middle Eastern allies. In particular, Russia’s Ambassador to Syria Alexander Kinshchak has worked to solidify Moscow’s aid to the Syrian government.
"If we do not want terrorists to win in Syria, with all the subsequent outcomes for countries in the region, especially since these consequences will spill out far beyond the region, it means that it is necessary to help the Syrian government in this war," Kinshchak told RIA Novosti.

Jordan policeman kills two Americans and South African at training centre
Source: BBC
A Jordanian policeman has shot dead two American instructors and a South African at a police training centre outside Amman, officials say.
Government spokesman Mohammad Momani said the assailant wounded two other Americans and four Jordanians, before being killed by his fellow officers.
Jordanian security sources earlier said that the gunman had killed himself.
The US-funded Jordan International Police Training Centre (JIPTC) hosts mainly Palestinian and Iraqi officers.

The King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) (outside Hall 5) has unveiled the latest version of its heavy armoured personnel carrier (APC).
Given the name Al-Dawsar, meaning a lion, the new vehicle is based on the hull of a surplus Tariq main battle tank, which has now been phased out of service with the Jordanian Army.
This latest version retains the standard Tariq hull, but with a raised superstructure at the front and the power pack at the rear. The latter consists of the new L-3 Combat Propulsion Systems AVDS 1790 V12 diesel developing 750hp, coupled to an Allison CD 850-6A automatic transmission at the rear.
The hydropneumatic suspension of the Tariq is retained and this provides a much better cross-country ride than the original Centurion suspension.
The raised crew and troop compartment is at the front of the hull and, in addition to the driver and commander/gunner, can carry seven dismounts, which are seated on individual seats facing inwards.
As well as the four roof hatches, the dismounts can rapidly enter and leave via a new power-operated opening in the front left side of the hull. The top part opens upwards and the lower part opens downwards to form a ramp.
The driver’s position is at the front right and he has the same yoke-type steering controls as fitted to the upgraded Tariq, rather than the original tillers of the Centurion.
The first example of Al-Dawsar being shown here is fitted with a pintle-mounted .50 M2 HB machine gun at the commander’s station, but a wide range of other weapons could be installed.
The baseline all-welded steel hull has been retained, but it is fitted with an appliqué armour package over the frontal arc to give a higher level of ballistic protection.

Re: Jordanian Armed Forces
Jordan sells air defense missile systems "Osa" - Ukraine wants to buy them
According to the magazine "Jane's Defense Weekly" in the Mohammed Najib article "Jordan to sell Osa SAMs", at the end of September 2017 the armed forces of Jordan put up for sale 52 combat vehicles of the Soviet self-moving short-range anti-aircraft missile system "Osa", removed from the armament of the Jordanian army in the course of the ongoing reorganization. A source in the Jordanian Armed Forces informed the author of the material that five potential buyers expressed interest in the acquisition of these military vehicles, including Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, and a private American company.

Note bmpd. Soviet military air defense systems were purchased by Jordan in the USSR in 1981-1989, and their purchases were reportedly financed by the Government of Iraq. According to Western sources, at that time, 60 combat vehicles 9A33BM ZKK 9K33M2 Osa-AK, 50 9A35 9K35 Strela-10 anti-aircraft guns, 50 anti-aircraft self-propelled ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled guns and a significant number of portable 9K32M SAM systems were received by Jordan "Strela-2M" and 9K34 "Strela-3".

Re: Jordanian Armed Forces
Jordan received a second Mi-26T2 helicopter
As reported by the Jordanian Air Force on December 26, 2018, they received from Russia the second heavy transport helicopter Mi-26T2, delivered under a 2016 contract. Unlike the first Mi-26T2 helicopter received by Jordan in January 2018, this board has not a camouflage, but a dark gray color.

Recall that on April 17, 2016, Russian Helicopters JSC signed contract No. RH-15-0651-04-1 for the supply of four Mi-26T2 helicopters with the Jordanian state bureau The King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB). Helicopters are designed for the Air Force Jordan. Jordan thus became the second foreign military customer of helicopters of the Mi-26T2 modification after Algeria, which received 14 such helicopters in 2015.
Tests of the head helicopter built under this contract at Rostvertol JSC in Rostov-on-Don (registration number 06819, maintained also in the Jordan Air Force) were launched in October 2017, and on January 17, 2018 it flew to Jordan at the Amman airfield. -Mark.
The second Mi-26T2 helicopter built on the Rostvertol (registration number 06820) began flight tests for Jordan in December 2017, but was only now transferred to the Jordanian side.
In the first quarter of 2018, the remaining two Mi-26T2 helicopters were built on Rostvertol under the Jordanian order, with registration numbers 06823 (serial number 35-05, first flight January 27, 2018) and 06824 (serial number 35-06, first flight in March), still remaining in Rostov-on-Don. These helicopters also have a dark gray color.
