Su-30 Fighter Jet Crashes, Crew Ejects Safely
Two crew members ejected safely after their Su-30 fighter jet crashed 130 km northeast of Komsomolsk-on-Amur during a test flight on Tuesday, according to sources in the regional administration.
"Both crew members ejected safely but one was hurt on landing," a regional administration source said.
The aircraft belonged to the Komsomolsk-on-Amur factory where Su-30s are manufactured.
The crash took place at 10:20 AM Moscow time.
The Su-30, a multirole combat aircraft, is operated by India, China and Russia.

Su-30 Caught Fire Before Crash – Investigators
The crew of a Su-30 fighter that crashed earlier on Tuesday in Russia’s Far East reported an engine fire before the crash, a spokesman for the Main Military Investigative Directorate said.
The Su-30MK2 fighter jet crashed 130 km northeast of Komsomolsk-na-Amure during a post-construction test flight. Both pilots ejected safely, although one of them was hurt on landing.
“While executing acceleration to a maximum speed, the first pilot reported a fire in the right engine,” the spokesman said. “The flight controller immediately ordered the crew to eject.”
“The investigators are taking all necessary steps to establish the cause of the crash,” the official said.
The aircraft belonged to the Komsomolsk-na-Amure factory where Su-30s are manufactured.
The Russian military earlier said that the plane had been built for export.
Su-family fighters constitute the bulk of Russia's arms exports.
Variants of Su-30 Flanker fighters are in service with air forces in several foreign countries, including India, Indonesia, China, Algeria, Vietnam and Venezuela.

Su-24 Bombers Resume Flights After Crash
Russia has partially resumed flights of Su-24 Fencer tactical bombers after one of them crashed in Russia’s Urals, Defense Ministry spokesman Col Vladimir Drik said on Tuesday.
“After tests, unit commanders… will receive permission to resume flights of this type of aircraft,” he said.
All Su-24s were grounded after one of them crashed in the woods of the Kurgan region during a routine flight on February 13. Both pilots ejected safely.
The crash was the third of a Su-24 in Russia over the last four months. The two previous crashes occurred in October and December 2011.
The Su-24 is a two-seat, twin-engine fighter-bomber similar to NATO's Tornado and Mirage 2000 planes.
It has been in service with the Russian Air Force since the mid-1970s. However, in recent years Russia has gradually been phasing out the planes, which have a patchy safety record.
According to the Defense Ministry’s plans, the Su-24 will be gradually replaced with new Su-34 Fullback strike aircraft, which has the potential to become the top plane in its class for years to come.

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
Very odd that an engine fire resulted in the crew being ordered to eject.
Considering it is a twin engine aircraft I would have thought that shutting down the engine and attempting to land would be normal procedure.
By ejecting you lose an aircraft, risk injury or death of the crew, and make it much harder to work out what went wrong...
Good to see the Fencers are flying again.

Maybe not. It could be that they didn't want to risk another issue and the jet coming down closer to KnAAPO in someone's yard. Could've been something else in play as well, i.e. fuel status, terrain (engine goes out, drop altitude, oh crap that's right this place ain't exactly flat), etc. Plus, they were ramping up to max speed. "Fire" might be code for "the engine blew up" leading to the potential for structural damage given the loadings on the aircraft while accelerating, damage that could make trying to land not so smart.
Good to know the guys punched out OK though.
And an export MK2? Vietnam? Indonesia?

MIG-29 fighter jet crashes in Moscow region, pilots manage to catapult
MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. A MIG-29 fighter jet has crushed in the area of the town of Voskresensk, about 100 km to the south-east of Moscow, the press service of the regional Interior Department told TASS.
Both pilots catapulted. No victims on the ground were reported.
“The jet crashed near the village of Chemodurovo,” a spokesman for the department said. “Both pilots catapulted and one of them was taken to hospital.”
Pavel Vlassov, the Director General of the Mikhail Gromov Flight Testing Institute said the jet had crashed during a test flight.
When the crew was returning to the institute’s airbase in Ramenskoye, “something happened and the pilots were compelled to abandon the jet.”
Vlassov also said that the aircraft itself was beyond repair.

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
Thankfully this has been a very empty thread the past couple of years.
And very thankfully, the 2 pilots today were not seriously injuried.
I suppose this is one benefit of a fleet that is becoming increasingly modern.
Hopefully, safety can be increased even further.
And civillian air-traffic shows similar improvement too. Sadly, civillian does have some notable improvements to make. (Top tier airlines eg Aeroflot, Transaero are as good as anyone tho) But again, is getting better.
It would be interesting to see what technological and operational steps can be taken today to prevent incidents.

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
Accorsing to TASS newa, the pilots bodies were found. Fragments too.....
RIP to those pilots. Hope they find the cause (probably just an old aircraft that was awaiting for replacement).

Glad the pilots are fine. Too bad about the aircraft but these things happen.

One of the pilots of the MiG-29 crash isnt fine tho. No word on what injury he got exactly other than it being "serious". And a Su-34 rolled off the runway and flipped at Voronezh after chute didnt deploy.

So serious injury with no threat to life or health? That is according to Tass.
What caused the Su-34 to flip? I mean is, what exactly happened?

Ok, but am curious as to how it just "rolled" off the runway. Sucks.

Aircraft hitting rough or soft ground at high speed often have their undercarriage collapse and flip or roll...
