The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that a Ukrainian Su-27 was shot down near Maryinka in the DPR

According to the official representative of the department, Igor Konashenkov, the plane was shot down by fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The Aerospace Forces (VKS) of the Russian Federation shot down a Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force near the village of Maryinka in the DPR.
This was stated on Friday by the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov.

"Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force near the village of Maryinka in the Donetsk People's Republic," he said.

The only reasons for the use of Kinzhal is that you can't track the mig-31 once in the air with satellites so you can't know when the launch happened. And the second is that it hits the target 1 minutes after the launch at those ranges in Ukraine so you can track visually a target (humint or satellite) and destroy it without giving it free time to evacuate or move.

Imagine a team of generals meets in a building, even in the basement of the building. The mig-31 will launch its kinzhal undetected and 1 minute after it blows up the building with a 500kg or so warhead. Even if you know the launch happened, the time needed to call the generals, tell them to evacuate and them to evacuate will be higher than the arrival time.

Overnight Russian Forces launched a massive missile attack on energy infrastructure facilities in #Ukraine.

The enemy's air defences were once again powerless - targets in #Kiev, #Kharkov and #Pavlograd, as well as in #Zhytomyr, #Volynsk, #Vinnitsa, #Kirovograd, #Odessa, #Zaporozhye and #IvanoFrankovsk regions have been hit.

#Kiev Region (MAP):

Russian troops hit the engine room and boiler room of TPP-5 in #Kiev. The city suffered significant power and communication problems.

#Russia's Border Areas:

In the #Bryansk region, Ukrainian terrorist formations shelled the village of #Rakovka. A dwelling house and a farm building were damaged.
Russian air defence forces intercept an enemy drone near the village of #Navlya with no casualties or damage.

In the #Belgorod region, the AFU terrorists struck the outskirts of #Shebekino town. Residential buildings have been hit, civilians were not harmed.

#Starobelsk Direction:

There are no significant changes on the frontline. Artillery duels and position fighting continue along the line of contact.

#Soledar (#Bakhmut) Direction:

Wagner PMC units are leading an offensive towards #Bogdanovka, continuing to close the encirclement ring around #Bakhmut.
The enemy responds by attempting counterattacks to maintain a ground corridor out of the city.

Russian forces evacuate civilians from liberated neighbourhoods in eastern #Bakhmut. The enemy terrorists are shelling the lost areas without regard for the lives of the townspeople.

Artillery duels continue along the entire line of contact. Russian forces hit enemy concentrations in #Kherson, #Zelenovka and #Antonovka.

Kinzal is a convenient overkill for the Russians. It works in the current situation, and it's being both tested and showcased to foes, what would happen if it went for the primary target (CV)

Comes down to whether you can intercept a MiG-31. If you can't, the surface target is fried.

Kh-22M has a max speed of Mach 3. But when it approached its target it could do a steep dive into the target at Mach 4.5.

For Kh-32 the steep dive into the target would be at Mach 6+.

Meaning the figure for Kinzhal would be even more impressive. Perhaps that's the reason why Kinzhal was part of the strike package that included Kaliber. But I don't think that was even necessary as far as hitting the target is concerned.

Perhaps the underlying idea was to confuse the Ukrainian/NATO air defence systems with missiles that cruise in a swarm at various speed. Makes interception that much difficult even with electronic countermeasures.

You would think the AFU would have difficulty mounting a large scale counteroffensive due to the artillery assets Russia has deployed on the Bakhmut front.
