IMO. those IR sensors could be also used by SU-30/33/34s & MiG-29/31/35s for self defence.

Both aircraft are for the same role. Advanced Training. It´s even in its name: MiG-AT.

Thank you. But I would have preferred the idea of PapaDragon. MiG is too close to Yak-130 in capacity (it was it's opponent in the program for the supply of a training plane).

MiG-AT and Yak-130 are in the same class of trainers and both are twin engine planes. Decision to go with MiG-AT in production could only mean, that something went wrong with SR-10. But there is also other option to replace SR-10. Yak-152 is still in testing phase and they could easily develop a little bigger version with turboprop engine instead of diesel one and get advanced trainer in the class of PC-9 or PC-21, which could be used between basic Yak-152 and Yak-130.
PC-9 or Tucano are not used as basic trainers, Diamond DA-40 or Zlin-242 are used before pilots went to PC-9 or Tucano, which are turboprop planes.

Mig is a big company that don't produce a lot since 90s. It is better to support them than add another company that would produce fighters/trainers while they already have mig sukhoi yak ...

"Two third of flying and technical personnel of the Russian air force received field practice during the military operation in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Saturday on the air with the Rossiya 24 TV Channel.
“Speaking about aviation, I would say that a greater portion, two thirds of flying and technical staff, received in-field practice and had extensive combat practice. We now have many young pilots with one hundred and more tactical missions,” he stated.
“We made scheduled rotations, so that as much flying staff as possible could participate in this operation, in the operation against international terrorism. However, this refers to other services as well,” the minister said."
